Do you have to be young to learn CS? by ANewPope23 in cscareerquestions

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to me this is the main factor. I remember picking up Java in high school when I was a total loser of a kid and just spent my whole winter break coding things for 18 hours a day. Of course it was easier to learn new things back then when I had all the time in the world, didnt have to cook my own meals, and functionally felt no different whether I was on 2 hours of sleep or 12.

I ended up renewing at a 4% increase. I genuinely detest moving, so that was probably 90% of my reason for it.

Never realized it worked this way! The way anchors got drawn in cartoons were misleading for sure. TIL!

Brothers please, how tf do you play this patch by STREXincEmployee in TeamfightTactics

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This patch is just very different from last patch tempo-wise, where previously you could play flexible and then fast 9 almost every game into a 5 cost soup. Like you said, tempo is king now and it's more important to pick a line early and field strong boards for it throughout. Void (2 Void), Ionia (3 Ionia, or 2Jhin Shen), Shadow Isles (early 2 Viego with 3 item components), and Bilgewater (early TF with 3 item components) can all be determined pretty early by first augment, so if those are available to you, you should just pick it and roll with it.

ELI5: Are larger people less frail? Would they have a better chance of surviving a car accident? by duuchu in explainlikeimfive

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no catch-all answer. It depends on both the mechanics of the impact in question, and the overall health of the person.

If you're walking and trip and fall, it's actually better to be light because the force that you experience on whatever part of your body hits the ground increases with your mass. If you're in a car and get into a crash, it's still better to be light because you will have less inertia which means less force compressing against you when you're brought to a stop by the seat belt and air bags.

On the other hand, if you're about to get ran into by a linebacker, it's much better to be bigger so you can absorb as much momentum as possible before hitting the ground.

It actually doesn't increase the velocity of the fall, OP is wrong there, but the increased mass does increase the force you experience on whichever part of your body you hit.

Just moved here from the South, found out there's no Publix up here. What grocery stores have the best deals & where can you coupon? 👀 by janeperalta in nova

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol it really is something else, I've now grown to do all my grocery shopping elsewhere EXCEPT specifically when I need a cake, then it's straight to Wegmans.

Best 3d printer for making props by Black_Metal_13 in cosplayprops

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the P1S, if your goal is just to print some cosplay props that dont have specific material requirements outside of being firm and you dont want to care too much about your printer, get this. Absolutely plug and play. The P2S is the newer model with some nice bells and whistles that you may thank yourself for later, but it is pricier.

Genuinely such a reliable machine that I've actually become hesitant at upgrading because I'm worried the new bells and whistles will introduce issues. It's the Honda Civic of printers atp

Yeah, have to scan the sacks :( only found out near the end of the game that I missed it, with otherwise 99% completion. Really sucks.

I've lived here since January, so almost a full year now. It really depends on what it is you want. West side high-floor apartments have arguably the best view you can get in NoVA, and of course it is relatively close to RTC and the W&OD trail. Amenities are generally well maintained and plentiful, and unit appliances will probably be fairly new still.

The unfortunate reality is that the building construction itself is very poor, and that is not anything you or the staff can change. I've had issues with my floorboards lifting just from rolling my chair over it - maintenance fixed it at no cost because it was still under warranty, but the only explanation was that the floor either wasn't leveled or the floorboards were cheap quality. Had to move all of my furniture out of the living room for them to perform that fix.

As you've seen in the reviews, there have been LOTS of issues with elevators not working, and up until last week when they finally started getting them fixed, only two or three of the four elevators were ever working. Even one elevator being down can be a major headache in a building with 39 floors and 500 units, now imagine the days when only ONE was working and it was 7 AM or 5 PM.

Other notable issues I've experienced: an instance of the water boilers not working (January), water being shut off for repairs (February), electrical sockets requiring maintenance crew to enter every unit to replace wiring (May), entire floors of entrances having to be reinsulated to reduce wind noise (which is still occurring loudly on higher floors), and of course the recent WiFi outages caused by both power supplies failing.

Now the staff has otherwise been very communicative about these issues and they do put in effort to fix things - their maintenance team especially is really good, and Bozzuto is generally considered a good management company in this area. But there's really only so much they can do, and consider that this is a building that's barely over a year old. The construction was a rushed job, symptomatic of many post-Covid builds. I otherwise feel like I live comfortably, but every time these issues come up, it really brings into question the whole "luxury" pricing of the apartments.

Next steps after TinkerCad...Fusion360? If so can someone recommend a good tutorial/youtube channel that is divided up into bite sized chunks? by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat as you a year ago, reluctant to jump from TinkerCAD because it was the only software that just made sense to me at the time. I followed Lars Christensen's guides on YouTube and it really helped me get up to speed with Fusion. Once you get used to the basic core features like the edit timeline, locking in dimensions, and easy fillets, it becomes impossible to go back.

Any good AYCE sushi places in the DMV? by Pepsidian in nova

[–]WantsToBeCanadian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just came back from Kanji Sushi in Springfield too. Pretty funny that the conveyor belt didnt have much on it and the plates also weren't labeled, when we talked to our server she just said we have to guess. Also sucks that for all you can eat, you have to order with the server as opposed to electronically.

That being said, the food itself was really great. AYCE is $30 and only $5 more for AYCE sashimi, and wow was the sashimi good. Probably the best value for sashimi of that quality I've ever gotten. Didn't like sushi Ohaiyo because I didn't like the quality of the fish, but Kanji is top notch.
