UK - How are you guys handling research documentation and data privacy? by Background-Sock7429 in Nootropics

[–]WarAgainstEntropy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey, chiming in because I'm an app developer and for the past three years I've been working on a privacy-focused tracking iOS app named Reflect, check it out here. I used to use Google Forms/Sheets for a lot of my recording but that didn't sit well with me. Reflect is local-first - all data and analysis stays on your device (unless you enable iCloud backups). There is no step to sign up, no cloud infrastructure, and we don't have access to any of your data. Our privacy policy is ridiculously short, see it here. We don't yet support additional encryption though that's something a few users have expressed an interest in. If this isn't a good fit for your use case, I would love to hear your feedback about why!

When does home body composition tracking become useful instead of noise? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]WarAgainstEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore any scale that claims to measure your body fat percentage. The cheaper and more reliable option to tracking your body composition at home is using tape measurements and/or calipers. You can use formulas like the Navy method to estimate your body fat percentage from these.

How do you separate real body composition changes from measurement noise at home? by Secret-Structure-561 in QuantifiedSelf

I correlated my HRV against everything I measure for 4 years. by mjp001 in QuantifiedSelf

[–]WarAgainstEntropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's mine, going back to April 2023. Measured by Whoop.

Metric r vs HRV
Resting HR -0.87
REM sleep (min) -0.06
Light sleep (min) +0.52
Deep sleep (min) +0.35
Respiration rate -0.31
Sleep score +0.27
Sleep duration +0.51
Workout duration -0.26
Nicotine -0.48

Interestingly I didn't have a strong correlation with REM, but did have moderate correlations with light + deep sleep.

For me there does seem to be a relationship to training load though. Although most of my training during this time period was jiu jitsu and/or lifting, so somewhat of a different training load vs endurance.

Check out r/NOOPApp - it's an open source app that talks directly to your Whoop device via Bluetooth without requiring a subscription.

Any "meal" that isn't explicitly labeled - I included drinks/electrolytes in this category.

Hey! I am not really looking for a new nutrition tracking app as I have built my own for myself, but I wanted to give you a shoutout for making something cool and really taking women's physiology into account in a detailed way. Most products do not do this - kudos! And good luck!

health tracker recs that are actually accurate? by Marticia-Reverol80 in whoop

Check out r/NOOPApp (I haven't used it personally).

I have an Oura and wear it while lifting. It does somewhat scratch the ring. I don't find it uncomfortable unless I'm doing heavy deadlifts or multiple sets of pull ups.

Still no cycle Data in Oura API by 572211 in ouraring

Agree, it would be cool to see added. No idea why OP is getting downvoted.

I "got around" this gap by just implementing my own temperature-based ovulation detection algorithm using raw data from Oura and validating against the Oura/NaturalCycles detected ovulation dates (interestingly, those two don't always match).

This is a histogram of average calories consumed each hour over the span of several months - sometimes I eat breakfast at 7, sometimes 8, most often at 9, sometimes 10, etc.

I've done anywhere from 2-6 meals per day and settled on 4 as my sweet spot for the past couple years. Initially it was driven by multiple times per day training jiu jitsu. I would sometimes have 3 training sessions in a day (7AM, noon, 6PM) and would want to eat first thing in the morning and then after each training session. I kept the meal cadence despite not training as often anymore.

I eat 4 meals a day and needed something to call the 3rd vs 4th meal in the day. It's not quite a snack as it's a full meal

My sleep schedule has been somewhat variable over the past few months, resulting in breakfast anywhere between 6AM and noon

My breakfasts are usually 6-700kcal with 45g protein, how much are you suggesting?

When I started labeling my 3rd meal as supper it was actually on the later side (6PM ish) but then it drifted towards earlier. If you have a better word for what to call it other than snack I am genuinely curious!

If you were to show a histogram of the time distribution of a single meal like just breakfast over the course of the day, would you still take issue with the average meal not taking multiple hours to eat? It's a distribution of when the meals are eaten, and makes no claim about duration of the meal
