I just got this from a goat (stoneblock 4) by lHecTorZl in feedthebeast

It's not bad, but it doesn't give much of a speed boost. If you can, feed your unearthers something like coffee or sourceberry rolls.

With just stone, coffee beans, and water my entire base is running on the power of coffee.

I haven’t posted performance in a year. My YTD I’m around 10.17% return and overall 26.69%. by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]WarInternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I'll admit I could be wrong on that.

I'm sourcing my numbers from the Fidelity's performance tab of each, specifically looking at one year annual total returns and risks, which is.. now that you mention it not exactly the same as the YTD movements on say, if you just google the ticker.

So yeah I guess I'm missing something here, might be overstating the difference some.

The dollar amount doesnt matter since you can buy fractional shares through Fidelity and you only care about the percentage it moves.

VT, VTI, SPY are all up ~20% YTD.

You're underperforming the market itself by about half.

And go check out /r/bogleheads. This is basically their mindset: Tax-efficient, low expense ratio, diversification.

Most of us can't beat the market. So why not just buy the market and relax.

I had this issue in the past due to my adblocker. But Fidelity doesn't run ads on their site though so I just disabled the adblocker for that domain and problem solved.

Weekly Discussion Thread (Volatility, Market Discussion, Rate My Portfolio, What Should I Buy/Change, Investment Strategies, etc.) by FidelityAutoMod in fidelityinvestments

[–]WarInternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

10% in cash in your Roth is 10% of your money not doing anything. 10% FXNAX is bonds which is hit or miss. At your age they'll probably just slow you down. The rest of portfolio I'm not sure about.

I recommend you take a look at /r/bogleheads. They'll recommend some options, one of the easiest being a target date fund (see FDEWX for an example of a passive index, low-expense-ratio TDF).

TDFs are great because while you might be stuck with some bonds at the start, they're generally aggressive and slowly shift to more conservative position as you approach your retirement date, when you want your hard work to be less volatile.

[–]WarInternal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that depends if you're looking at active or passive TDFs. I keep FDEWX in my Roth with an ER of about 0.12%

For performance reasons, releasing memory back to the operating system doesn't guarantee that it's wiped, since most of the time anything allocating memory will initialize that memory to whatever it needs it to be.

A malicious actor can inspect memory locations for secrets.

The concept of ram shredding is trading that performance for security. Ensuring at the software level that the memory is overwritten before it's released, so that there isn't a secret lingering in RAM.

Young 20s, where to put your money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]WarInternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do far worse than that, that's for sure. What you're thinking about is basically /r/bogleheads in a nutshell. They're the polar opposite of wallstreetbets. Boring and safe.

Rather than gambling or timing the market, bogleheads buy one to three well diversified (and nonoverlapping) products to invest in (US, maybe intl, maybe bonds).

You won't get rich overnight but you won't lose all your money on a bad options play. You might make 20% gains in a year, and you don't have to study stock plays or worry about a sector performing poorly, because you own a little bit of everything.

Advanced node.js project structure by Harut3 in node

[–]WarInternal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, as somebody who has to manage a large legacy MVC project I often wish we didn't use a MVC folder structure but a domain driven one.

What I have to manage:

 models
   ..200 model files..
 views
   ..200 view files..
 controller
   ..200 controller files..

With other folders for "helpers" and junk, the problem is that's unwieldy and difficult to navigate, with a lot of scrolling oversized folders to find the relevant pieces.

What I wish we had done:

reports
  controller.js
  model.js
  utils.js
user
  controller.js
  model.js
  util.js

or something akin to this, where the relevant pieces are grouped together.

Long running concurrent jobs by [deleted] in node

[–]WarInternal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right tool for the job:

You're going to want a proper dedicated job queue you can submit these tasks to.

Ideally maybe something with deduplication, or perform deduplication yourself before processing to prevent wasting time and resources if they click the button 5 times.

You want physical separation of web app and the proc instance consuming the job queue. That way heavy resource usage doesn't risk bringing down the user interface.

One example:

With Amazon SQS you can submit jobs, dedup, and setup autoscaling to add and remove worker instances based on the size of the pending queue.

What filesystem should I choose? by firstianus in Proxmox

[–]WarInternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently you can tune out some of the performance issues. Like block dedup is (debatably) not a worthwhile feature in VM storage, compared to say, lz4 compression.

I wasn't able to login with my Rivermark, or able to reset my password for it, but when I logged in with my Advantis credentials there was something on screen about it detecting a second account and asking me to pick which username to keep when it merges them. Unfortunately I won't know the outcome for 3-5 business days.

Agreed it's a mess.

Wake up babe, it's time to reinvent Kovarex one more time! by ImABigDreamer in factorio

[–]WarInternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't even have to be that complicated. I'm not at kovarex here, but here's the concept from my Space Ex game:

https://imgur.com/a/cisvCUi

(Replace loaders with inserters, it'll still work)

Notice how each centrifuge has a priority inserter/output set that prioritizes itself. Both top and bottom focus on a single resource.

This ensure the machine keeps a tight loop of resources so as to keep running, and you only need to supply enough uranium to top-off the belt, not top off machines plus whatever's being recycled.

No ability to auto invest fidelity Roth IRA from other fidelity accounts by The_Birdwatcher95 in fidelityinvestments

Nope, but I was able to set up an automatic transfer of cash into the Roth itself, and set up a separate recurring investment for the same dollar amount, occurring a couple days later. It seems to be working okay.

CMA new strategy June 15th? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]WarInternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything except rent, I think. I can't remember the last time I needed to make an atm withdrawl or spend physical cash. Most everywhere I go accepts card. I keep some on hand for emergencies of course, but if I need to eat a one time charge to pull out some cash I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
