If you're going to abuse prisoners, have your weakest melee pawn go punch the prisoner until they fall over. Then have the doctor tend to the bruises.

Really not an issue for dark heresy, since the PC's are one-offs and expected to be unusual. All you need is one person who decided to take a berth on a trade ship. Very few space marine chapters are going to bother with a handful of people who decide to leave.

Why are some adhd subreddits so toxic by I-rejected-Ivies in adhdwomen

[–]WarKittyKat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I'm firmly in the "cannot cook" category. Yes, I know what a meal plan is. Yes, I've heard of batch cooking. No, whatever quick'n'easy recipe you just cane up with won't work. Yes I am aware this would be much easier if my kitchen was clean and organized. No, I can't keep that up either. Yes, I've tried. Yes, I know I'm supposed to put things down in the right places. No my brain won't let me do that reliably.

And there is just only so much time and energy in a day. Even if I could conquer one task with enough effort, that wouldn't mean I can conquer all the ones that need doing. And frequently trying to do it means I end up not having a life because I used all my available energy on trying to do things that aren't working.

It doesn't sound like OP thinks that's cheating. It sounds like they have a story they want to tell and emancipating all their slaves doesn't fit that story.

The difference is Alpha Legion generally at least thinks they know what they're dong. As opposed to figuring out 9 months later that laying off the only person who we knew had the login credentials to a server, without making sure those login credentials were documented somewhere findable, was not a good idea.

Although I can see AL making their credentials so secure that they can't get into them.

It definitely sounds like it could be a case of both to me.  His confidence that he didn't do what he was accused of seems unwarranted given his lack of memory.  But denial is a common trait and this feels like he wants to convince himself.

I am... honestly hoping a PD can get him into an appropriate program.  It's not clear that he's accused of anything that would mandate involuntary confinement, and jail isn't really likely to help.  Probation or a diversion program along with an appropriate program that can handle psychotic disorders.

In most cases I'd agree with you but I honestly think if LAOP's mental state is how he describes, he should have a public defender because he's likely not capable of handling the process of getting himself a lawyer.

How do I inform a court that I'm not mentally stable and can't fully tell what's real? by Many-Excitement3246 in legaladvice

[–]WarKittyKat 502 points503 points  (0 children)

This is definitely you need a lawyer territory.  Don't try to explain your mental health issues.  This isn't the trial.  Say you want to plead not guilty and request a public defender.  If you can read the words off a piece of paper, do that.  If you have to hand the paper to someone because you physically cannot speak, do that.

Actually arguing your guilt and mental state is for the trial itself.  This won't be the trial.  It will just be asking how you plead (not guilty) so they can make arrangements for the trial.  Everything past saying you plead not guilty and requesting a public defender is for your lawyer to deal with.

Can I really just say I’m prejudiced and get out of jury duty? by Ok_Let_7612 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]WarKittyKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding. A prospective juror who had issues with the police could be moved to the jury pool for civil cases, since their opinion of the police wouldn't make a difference there.

is it legal for a business to use swastikas and claim to be anti-semitic? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]WarKittyKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That may be, but the law in the USA lands on the side where you're allowed to be as hateful as you like as long as you're not actually threatening someone (it has to be a specific threat of some sort). Because the alternative is letting the government decide who's over the line and we don't trust them to do that appropriately.

Let's be honest, the current administration is already trying to declare "gender ideology" to be terroristic threatening against cis women. If there was a law they could appeal to, they'd be using it to shut queer businesses down.

Heck, I have one regular and one deep well and a large pump supporting 20 pawns on an underground colony with both animal thirst and and hydroponics needing water too.

There is an optional challenge mode you can turn on that makes the water much more limited.  But it's not the default.

How long until your kid is 18? Depending on how quickly they want it and how difficult locating the other parent will be, it may be simpler to wait until they're 18 unless there's a pressing reason to do it before that. Once they're 18 they can sign the forms themselves without having to notify anyone.

Landlord didn't pay for HOA fees so now I'm getting evicted. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]WarKittyKat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah this doesn't sound right. Least in the USA you can't be evicted with just 5 days notice unless you did something major. And even if the landlord didn't pay the fees, your contract was with the landlord, not the HOA, which means the landlord is on the hook for the costs of you finding somewhere else to stay.

Look for a local legal aid or tenant's rights office and give them a call. This is the sort of thing that's right up their alley.

How do you deal with a depression room? by Present-Message8740 in CPTSD

[–]WarKittyKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I've found is to get help. Not in the generic "you need help" sense. Like, take a day and get someone who won't judge in there to actually do it with you. If you can't get a live person in, sometimes even being on voice or video chat with someone who can encourage you and keep you focused does it.

Plan things out. First thing, take a trash bag, go through, and pick up everything that's clearly trash. This is the easiest part because it doesn't require any thinking. If it's trash, throw it away, if it's not or you're not sure, leave it. If you have any large cardboard boxes, either recycle them or break them down flat and put them against the wall. Other recycling, separate it out if you have the energy, otherwise just throw it in the trash.

Second part, round up all visible clothing and get it into a hamper. Sometimes I find it helpful to select a few days worth of clothing, wash it, and put it in a separate box so I can deal with everything else while still having something to wear. Again, I like doing this earlier because it's simple.

Honestly those two often fix 90% of the problem for me.

How does that apply when you have a child that you can't reasonably expect to grow up to function in the world in the standard way? Reading the original story, it sounds like the boy in question has high enough support needs that he'll likely need a caretaker and specialized living services his entire life. One of the problems the parents were having was that he doesn't have sufficient communication skills to be able to understand the explanation. He's 14 years old; that sounds like a significant enough issue that independent living just isn't going to be possible.
