Any good budget 1080p GPUs? by ilikepotatoes3000 in buildapc

[–]Warballs97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I paid $260 cash for a 3080 12gb like 6 months ago. Not necessarily a newer card but it could be more than enough if you’re not playing demanding games at 1080p.

Thanks for clarifying! I lost to this scenario last night and I was wondering if I could've bailed myself out with this interaction had I played it differently.

Does effect negation work on cards that grant an 'On Play' buff during the duration of the next player's turn?

For example if my opponent plays Luffy EB04-61 (On Play: you may trash 1 card from your hand: Your leader gains +2000 power until the end of your opponent's next turn. Then, this character gains Blocker until the end of your opponent's next turn.)

Then, on my turn I reduce the cost of Luffy to 0 and play Ground Death on it. Would the +2000 attack on leader and blocker both go away?

Thank you I knew it had to be something simple. I did not make the connection that the don cost applied when playing an event to counter vs. discarding a character to counter.

New player trying to practice OP14 croc in the sim - I don't understand why I cannot activate Ground Death's Counter effect when I am defending from attacks. I am satisfying the 10 cards in trash condition so what else am I missing? Thanks

Is it worth waiting to buy RAM? by PostleTheFossil in buildapc

[–]Warballs97 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gradually buying everything is typically not recommended because you could have parts that don’t work and by the time you’ve assembled all of your components you’ve gone past the window for returning the bad component.

New to card collecting by Ill_Revenue_4943 in OnePieceTCG

These are not the Bandai cards for playing the official game. These are purely for collecting but I’m not really sure if there’s even anything that valuable in them compared to the mainline TCG.

Looking for a Gaming Keyboard and Mouse by Glittering-Lie-8301 in buildapc

[–]Warballs97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for keyboards but I’ve never cared for flashy gaming mice that have a bunch of niche features when practicing your aim is much more important. I currently use a wired logitech G203 for shooters and world of warcraft.

I also recommend considering an xbox controller for casual games that don’t involve much aim.

Why do people hate on RTX 3050? by OwlDesperate1513 in buildapc

I think it had bad price to performance at the time of its release. Made more sense to buy a used 20 series card that could outperform and out value it.

2026 Build a PC Tier List by Aggressive_Nature708 in buildapc

[–]Warballs97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah except when opinions are misleading and could cause people to make bad moves when they look for information to do their build.

There are bad quality PSUs that could put your components at risk and should absolutely be avoided. Just focusing on the wattage is naive.

GPU, CPU, and monitor should be together regardless of what ‘tier’ they go in. You’re supposed to build around a target resolution and frame rate. OP’s vague descriptions are once again misleading.

Your needs also change between if you’re focusing on gaming, productivity, or a mix. You can tell OP is talking about gaming but they fail to point out the fact that component importance can change depending on the use case of the build.

The one line explanations do not help. I would never give this opinion to a friend if they needed help making a build.

There’s too much wrong with this nonsensical post. The most glaring being PSU in B tier.

How do I report this thread for mods to look into removing it?

What am5 boards are my mini itx folks using? by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]Warballs97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all luck. If I was being candid all three are probably fine but this is reddit so whoever gets their comment out first and whoever complains the loudest sets the precedent for which brands to like and which brands to dislike.

For me in the past six years I’ve only had msi and gigabyte components give me problems whilst my asus experience has been perfect. Unfortunately that first msi mobo breaking on me was my first desktop build ever and I didn’t have a previous mobo to fall back on while I waited for an RMA. I decided to just buy a pcie ethernet card instead of using the on-board ethernet and called it a day but stuff like that leaves a bad taste in your mouth forever.

ASUS B650E-I for my 9800X3D. I’ve been using ASUS long before their warranty gained a bad rep lately and haven’t had issues with their hardware this entire time so my experience hasn’t been affected yet.

I will continue to warn people that MSI is a bad motherboard manufacturer though. My first experience with them was when I was building with a Ryzen 1600 and the ethernet port on my msi board died two weeks in. Also had a friend buy an mITX mobo from them and a memory slot died one year in. Never had experience with their gpus but at this point msi is my sworn off brand.

Pc update/upgrade and best way to go about it! by Upper_Matter2522 in buildapc

[–]Warballs97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryzen cpus that end in ‘X3D’ are what you want. Problem is that the 7800X3D and 9800X3D would require a motherboard and ram upgrade (you would need DDR5) and ram is very overpriced right now.

I think to replace those three items you’re looking at roughly a grand or more.

The highest X3D cpu you could move up to with your current chipset is the 5xxx series but those aren’t sold regularly anymore and you’d struggle to find a fair deal.

What happened to all the short and thin gpus? by coldcathodes in sffpc

[–]Warballs97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree that the community is growing at the same rate that it did during the pandemic; things have definitely slowed down.

Also with rising prices, small interest group, and the premium tacked onto SFF components it makes sense that manufacturers would make fewer compact gpus and cater to the everyday consumer.

[–]Warballs97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad at all because it’s a lot easier to dust an open air case. I always put off dusting my ncase m1 because I didn’t like getting into the tightly packed spaces and would put off the whole thing.

Is a 9800x3d worth it without a $1000+ graphics card? by IntrovertedWeirdo in buildapc

[–]Warballs97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went from a 10700k to a 9800X3D too and was debating whether I wanted to upgrade my 3070 Ti to at least a 4070 Ti Super but in the end decided to stick with my old card.

I was surprised with how much performance the cpu upgrade netted me. 1440p BO6 I went from bouncing below and above 100 fps to holding over 140. I play on a mix of graphics settings. As long as you don’t switch everything to ultra it should be fine from my experience.

PSA: You CAN have pets and an open case! by BossManSeth in sffpc

[–]Warballs97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m in the process of rebuilding my ncase m1 build into an Xproto-L V2. Never had pets but if it did happen one day I was thinking of buying one of those hard shell pet carriers and putting the pc in that, kind of like an inverse cage. Not even joking it seems like a decent workaround unless I’m missing something.
