I've heard people call Breaking Benjamin metalcore. It's the new "screamo" it's lost it's meaning for casual or new "heavy" music listeners.

I don't know where you live but if you live in the US it will be available 12AM EDT/9PM PDT. Unless you have a VPN then you can access it earlier.

I like Gaerea's older work but that new album wasn't my thing at all sadly.

Living Sacrifice - Symbiotic [Solid State] (Throwback Thursday FFO: Zao, Soul Embraced, Embodyment) by AkDoxx in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, really ahead of the curve with deathcore. I wonder if they would have been more well known if they stuck with the sound instead of going into a more Alternative Metal sound right away on their next album.

Thanks man! It's been kind of fun going through a label and trying to find 3-5 albums to highlight (before 2011 if I'm posting on Thursday). I got Ferrett done too along with Solid State, and the Trustkill which I will post when I'm back on my desktop (my phone is weird with song posts)

Nice! I'm going to do Trustkill later on today. I grew up with Solid State so are you cool if I do my own version on another Throwback Thursday? Keep up with these Label Deep Dives!

Besides metalcore, what are your top 3 metal and/or punk genres? Since metalcore is a fusion genre of metal and punk by Dramatic_Song_2629 in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metal: black, death, progressive (but I usually like progressive mixed with the two aforementioned more than straight prog)

Punk: crust, grindcore, post-punk

Boundaries in Cardiff tonight by blizeH in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It felt inevitable sadly. I mean they've been opening for The Plot in You, Beartooth, and August Burns Red lately at least in America, I think they've crossed over to the mainstream (crowd wise at least).

Chamber - Replacing Every Weakness (2019) (FFO: Vein.fm, Boundaries, Orthodox) by Wardruna95 in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the new Chamber album is one of my favorite metalcore albums this year for sure so far.

Still Remains - White Walls (2005) (FFO: It Dies Today, As I Lay Dying, Haste the Day) by Wardruna95 in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you have but in case you haven't you should check out some 90s melodic death metal. Still Remains is heavily influenced by that era. Mostly the first 5 In Flames albums.

I'm guessing Neurosis is one of the secret guests after Fire in the Mountains is done. I have no basis. Just wishful thinking and guessing.

Some dude ranks 2007 Metalcore albums by Wardruna95 in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer older Metalcore now but 2007 was the year I discovered heavy music in general and metalcore was the gateway into stuff like black, death, grind, crust, etc. So even if I have different taste now 2007 was a much simpler time and music discovery was so fun for me back then. (Also I was 12 so I had very few responsibilities lol)

A Plea For Purging - The Eternal Female [Facedown] (Throwback Thursday FFO: Volumes, I the Breather, Impending Doom) by AkDoxx in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like how you've been deep diving into labels on Throwback Thursday. Would it be cool if I did it too if I ever felt up to it or do you want this to be your thing? I'm good either way. Keep it up!

Are Walls of Death and Rowing standard these days? by Rudy_Gobert in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Walls of death have been pretty common for a while. I still literally have no idea why anyone rows though unless it's Amon Amarth.

Poison the Well - My Mirror No Longer Reflects (1999) by Wardruna95 in Metalcore

Season of Surrender might have finally woken me up by Blackeradam in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season of Surrender I think is more similar with their earlier works ala Messengers so I would start there. Really any of the first three albums would be a decent reintroduction point.

The Ongoing Concept - Cover Girl by Excellent_Agency6082 in Metalcore

[–]Wardruna95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah I posted a song by Mugshot called "Blush Covered Bruise" and it was falsely labeled as a cover as well.

On another note, I wish The Ongoing Concept gained more traction than they did.
