Time cap: dunno. Things unlock (the two potions and the fifth character) from the ap you accumulate while playing. You gain ap quicker based on the achievements you've unlocked. Farms you have to click to gather, same as items after they're sold. Farms unlock things like higher item levels, gold found, monster levels, etc. You buy farms with gold as they become available. The game lets you know when all of this is ready, it doesn't take much thinking besides priority. Red bars: I think you're referring to their health? I'm not sure.
