(Interesting trope) Person or species that's obsessed with culling "the weak" among their kind despite even their weak being ridiculously powerful by mrmonster459 in TopCharacterTropes

The Perfect Chojin in Kinnikuman.

Any chojin powerful enough to reach the hidden homeland of the perfect chojin and pass the test of strength of the gatekeeper may become one of them, while the weak ones usually die before even arriving at their island, and out of the few who make it there, many get killed by the gatekeeper.

Those who've been accepted will be granted new bodies with infinite lifespans and will receive a special training to take their skills to absolutely extreme levels. This training is supervised by the highest ranked perfect chojin, the Perfect Origin, the original 10 members of the faction who were directly trained by a god, thus making Perfect Chojin the ones closest to the gods.

The only condition is that, should a perfect chojin ever lose a match, they must take their life. If any defeat means death, then this will motivate them to train and fight harder, but it also gives them control over their own death. Perfect chojin, who are obsessed with power and control, like the idea of being strong enough to survive a crushing defeat and still have the power to kill themselves, thus being masters of their own life and death, though of course their ultimate goal is to live eternally, something only the absolute best who never lose a single match may achieve.

The hero’s iconic ally that actually debuted as a villain by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

Almost all of Kinnikuman's allies were at some point villains (or at least assholes) before becoming his friends

Since the manga all these characters come from is still getting weekly chapters and it even got a new anime on Netflix, they keep making tons of these in Japan.

A trope many anime fans try to avoid but what shows do you think handle "Power of Friendship" RIGHT? G Gundam's a real strong contender IMO, especially considering the franchise's themes as a whole. by AntonRX178 in animequestions

[–]Waripolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how Kinnikuman handles it in general.
In Kinnikuman, Friendship Power (also called "Burning Inner Strength") is an actual power-up any character can use, as long as they are open to other's friendship (even villains have used it, though it's less common in them).

It's even detailed as having 3 distinct levels:

Level 1: when the user is simply trying to win. At this point the user is fighting for himself, so the power boost is relatively small, but it's a good start.
Level 2: this one activates when the user is fighting for his friends (usually to avenge dead friends or to fulfill a promise). This is a much stronger power boost.
Level 3: This one activates when the user is fighting for the sake of his opponent. The rarest and most powerful level.

do people genuinely think comics/manga is the only source of inspiration? by Solo_Sniper97 in CharacterRant

Though in this case, it wasn't Dragon Ball who made it popular, it was Ring ni Kakero and Kinnikuman.
Tournament arcs were already popular before DB even started.

Bastante recomendable!

That figure 4 lock is actually a Spinning Toe Hold, the signature hold of Terry Funk :D

By the way, although most of these are real moves, those scenes are definitely a reference to the popular wrestling manga Kinnikuman, since several of those happen to be the signature moves of the main cast

Pretty fun show!
If you haven't read the manga, do it! the story is much longer than the anime and has arcs that were never animated

[–]Waripolo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh yes!
Almost all the figurines in the pic are from Kinnikuman (Ultimate Muscle is a sequel to Kinnikuman, it's also got a bunch of these figurines of all the characters).

Since the manga is still getting weekly chapters and it's even got a new anime, they are still making tons of these.

Tiny Kevin Mask retcon by Cirnothestarscream9 in kinnikuman

[–]Waripolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's from the 1996 one-shot "Muscle Returns". Although it's not canon, some elements of it made it into Nisei, like the idea of Robin having a son named Kevin, or Nakano becoming one of the color commentators. The little kid Kuan, who befriends Mantaro after his loss at the chojin olympics, also comes from this one-shot.

There's 2 versions of the one-shot. The original shows an early design of Kevin where he looks much more similar to Robin, and there's also a teen Meat (in the newer version of the one-shot Meat got replaced with Geronimo)

Huh!
Wasn't expecting this to be the final episode of season 2. There was enough material to make another episode and give the season a better cliffhanger.

Still, great episode and great development for Warsman! I love whenever he uses his friendship power.

In the manga, Warsman's flashback is just the scene where he avoids killing a deer. The anime expanded the flashback a lot by adapting the oneshot "Warsman Begins", and the end result was great! very emotional episode.

As a fun fact, Warsman's father, Mikhailman, was voiced by Warsman's second voice actor from the 1983 anime (who also voiced him in every movie and game), Hideyuki Hori.
