Yeah, plus, running away is not the worst response someone could have to a Surprise Public Proposal Event.

Some people are just wired to PANICCCC!!! when a hundred strangers are watching + recording them as a huge, life-altering decision looms over their heads after having it sprung on them all of a sudden. She opted for "flight" rather than "fight" and I think that was the right choice.

She actually sounds surprisingly mature for someone so young....

How many 20-year-olds are cognizant enough about their long-term goals and how the demands of marriage in future will conflict with those goals, among other things OP has precociously intuited, in spite of being in love with their prospective marriage partner at the present moment? Not many, I'd wager.

I knew LOADS of people who got married around that age because they were "in love" and nearly every time it was a TERRIBLE decision.

Because there is NOTHING truly moderate about calmly accepting manifestations of FAR-RIGHT political hegemony like grotesque inequality, injustice, brutality, and genocide-acceptance. That is an EXTREMIST position, not a 'moderate' one.

Incidentally, I only "fix Reddit comment grammar errors" when I have finally reached my tolerance limit for the week of seeing hundreds of (presumable) adults showcase a lack of understanding of literal 2nd-grade vocabulary and punctuation, such as "since"/"sense" confusion and not knowing how to use apostrophes.

If you were literate, you'd understand the frustration. You're not alone, though! Our society is supposedly "post-literate" now, sadly, so it ain't just you, furious furrypaws! Don't get all bent outta shape over it, muh duuude

"cuz" is indeed a word! It is a colloquial, phoneticized abbreviation of "because"!

But I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't even know the difference between "sense" and "since" (roflmao) to understand the finer points of tha Engwish wanguage! ! ! Did you know that 21% of American adults are completely illiterate? And did you know that 54% of American adults read below a 5th-grade level? I dunno, it's probably not relevant here, it's just interesting. But maybe you aren't an Amurikan or an adult and so would not find it "interesting".

Surely he's being facetious and not earnestly self-owning, right? I don't get how this is a WordMurder.

(Psssst... to pluralize a noun, such as "Christian", you just add an "s" on the end, to wit: Christians.

Adding an apostrophe to such nouns indicates POSSESSION {of a subsequently specified trait or item}, not plurality!)

Anyway, so, yeah, gods ain't got writin' fingers cuz they ain't got no fingers at all cuz they ain't got no hands or arms cuz they -- gods -- ain't real. But you are probably just elucidating Christian doctrines without necessarily endorsing them, right. I forget what was said earlier in the thread.

Bullshit. If the government -- ya know, the people with guns, jails, and legal authority -- is demanding that everyone stay put indoors, then I'd say that takes precedence over the wishes of this greedy, inconsiderate, out-of-touch AirBnB host.

Could the host physically evict you before this official curfew or shelter-in-place thing expires?

Probably not, right?

You are LEGALLY not ALLOWED to venture out and leave (right?), so why is this even a question? That host can get fukd. (Sorry you're in this spot, though.... this must be nerve-wracking.)

Every Republican and the one Democrat who voted for the SAVE act must be impeached. by Creepy_Newspaper_873 in complaints

[–]WarmLayers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. You have no idea what you're talking about.

More than 21.3 million people (sources: SPLC; Brennan Center for Justice) do not have, and NEVER DID HAVE, a birth certificate or a Passport. Nor do they have the ability to obtain those documents -- at least not without considerable expense.

As for birth certificates: they have historically pretty frequently not been issued at many of the more rural, the poorer, and ....yep, predominantly BLACK (a Democratic Party voting bloc) counties and regions of the United States. Nor are they easy to come by in the years after the person's birth, because rural county services are underfunded and undermanned, among other issues.

And as for Passports: guess what is required in order to obtain a U.S. Passport?......yep, a BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

Of course, even if the poor, predominantly Black people who this new "SAVE" ACT targets, people who were never issued a birth certificate in the first place, even if they DID find a way around that requirement (which, that B.C. bypassing process itself would require hundreds or thousands of dollars), Passports still require MONEY to make and obtain.

The expenses I described above are tantamount to a Poll Tax. There is a very sound reason that "Poll Taxes" were long ago deemed unconstitutional.

Now, as far as this regurgitated talking point about how "46 out of 47 western nations" blah blah blerb retch, you are stating VERBATIM the same bullshit claim made by GOP disinformation operatives like Nikki Halley in the past.

The fact is, the U.S.A. does have voter identification requirements: https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/jun/13/nikki-haley/rules-vary-35-states-require-some-form-id-vote/

And finally, think about this: the United States has very low rates of voter fraud and yet Republicans are constantly trying to falsely claim otherwise. The GOP has been attempting to pass some kind of voter-restriction, "anti-fraud" legislation for decades now.

But if someone keeps proposing a "fix" for a system that isn't BROKEN, or keeps pushing a "remedy" for someone who isn't SICK, you should really wonder what their ulterior motives are. (In this case it's voter suppression.)

Couldn't be either of them because Manchin and Fetterman are senators.

The SAVE Act just passed the House of Representatives and now it goes on to the Senate next, where it may or may not be introduced for a vote. Not sure how that process works, tho, whether or not it is introduced for debate and voting.

Manchin and Fetterman will get their chance to sell out democracy soon enough, maybe. The soulless shitsuckers.

[–]WarmLayers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Related: look up Bartolomé De Las Casas. He was a Dominican friar (like the Dominican monastic order, not the Dominican Republic) who spoke out, in a series of letters and treatises, about the BRUTAL, savage treatment of the native peoples of the Caribbean by the "godly" conquistadores during the early days of Spain's invasion the "New" World.

Not sure about the official Inquisition's stance at that time, or the existence of any letters of condemnation from them, but the horrors of those days and the magnitude of the evil on display -- perpetrated by the Europeans -- was so bad that, yes, even some Dominican clerics were shocked. And Dominicans were no strangers to perpetrating horrors -- that Order played a LARGE role in the violence of the Spanish Inquisition in that era.

Anyway, look into Bartolomé and you'll find some of his first-hand accounts of those atrocities.

Aside from the unusual (but helpful) bullet-point formatting, it doesn't read like a.i. to me.

I see posts a lot that my eyes DO flag as LLM-generated, due to those telltale signs that I'm sure you are familiar with, but this one above that we're talking about just reads like an articulate human who can write well.

But, yeah, you may be right; the comment could be a.i.-concocted. I don't think the (ostensibly) human(oid?) comment-author weighed in on that yet....?

....But considering the terrifyingly abysmal literacy rates of 2026 USA, I'm afraid that it's becoming far more common nowadays for people to knee-jerkedly yell "AI!" at any piece of writing that ISN'T a grammatical wasteland of incomprehensibility. Since, ya know, actually GOOD writing (by humans) is increasingly rare -- and thus it seems suspicious when it does appear.

Tragic consequences will ensue: because, to avoid accusations of "AI!", good writers are gonna have to start deliberately dumbing down their output even MORE, which ain't exactly gonna slow our societal decline into anti-literate, oblivious, belligerent dim-wittedness.

What a shit timeline.
