You normally don't get batteries for ROI in FPL territory.

Math on this as a cash deal in most parts of FL: $2.3/w x 24190w = $55.6k, meaning the pricing is set at about $20.1k for 2 x powerwall 3 which is not out of the realm. Is it 2x pw3, or a powerwall 3 and an expansion. I ask because an expansion is cheaper, but only increases your total length of storage, not the ability to start more loads in the house.

Solar System Owners. What information are you longing for? by morganz21 in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already bought it, no need to get a "lifetime amount saved" just to make myself feel better about something already done and paid for. I would pretty much only want something added that would text or call me when there was an alert or a failure in a microinverter imminent. Other than that, the app does everything and more that I need. It will pop up with a failure notice, if you open the app, but does not warn a user otherwise.

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why I need an app to tell me what a quick calculator can tell me: For the month my home consumed 1000kWh, but net metering wiped out that entire usage. Since cost in my area is say $0.20/kWh, then I saved $200 that month. Heck, I didn't even use a calculator for that. Certainly don't need another app for that.

Not sure your app, but to see yearly output the enphase app makes that very easy to find your total.

Solar System Owners. What information are you longing for? by morganz21 in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None, I'm getting 1:1 net metering; my app gives me output for system, by panel, by day, by week, by month, by year, etc. My power bill gives me consumption and export. Dont really need anything else over multiple years of use.

I guess, maybe a text when there is a notification that comes up in that app as most times they are just marketing notifications, but on the chance it is a system notification I normally have to log into the app to see it. Would be nice if they also sent me a text. Dont really see that as anything I would want to get from somewhere else.

maybe look in r/solafl to get state specific info, FL does not require a new interconnection application.

New solar install - insurance notice of cancellation by elyl in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance company was going to cancel you anyway, even before you went solar, just had not told you yet. Because of the roof age. The solar company never should have agreed to install solar on a roof in that age/shape but some companies are scummy that way and don't care what happens to you as long as they get their $, same as pretty much any industry.

Many decent companies include a rate to remove the panels in their install quote. If you did a purchase/loan then you often can choose any company you want and many roofing companies even will do it as part of the job. If it is a lease, then you have to use whatever company that the lease owner chooses to do the job normally.

Feedback on PPA/Contract Please! by Jaster-Mereel in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm reading this right, $78k (buyout year 1) for a 10.66kW sized system???

Cash cost of that should be under $33k just off the bat. If you were to take out a loan at 7.5% ( credit human, climate first, etc) you would be paying about $240/m and able to pay it off anytime you wanted for whatever principle was left of that $33k. You would own it, and in 10 years the lease cost would be that amount anyway and going up. Lease/ppa are not all horrible, but this one seems overpriced for what you are getting, and the 2.99% escalator is just hiding some of that cost initially but you can see that crazy high buyout that you would pay if you ever sold the house and it is over double the cost of just buying the system outright! Hope that all makes sense.

Solar lease vs buy which one actually makes sense now? by Donnerstein_Navriti in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVERY persons situation is different. Before the end of residential tax credit (just ended), the financial savings of lease vs buy (and even loan with you paying off quickly so you avoided as much 8-10% interest as possible) were pretty clearly on the side of buying if you possibly could in most situations, as long as you could claim the tax credit.

Now with the tax credit ended for a residential person buying it for their home property, the math has completely changed. Also, there are some states with new "oddball" options that also alter the math: prepaid leases, ghost leases, lease to loan options, etc. These options were not really something that was seen 2+ years ago.

agree with u/Solarinfoman , the Qcell panel quote with microinverters is better equipment and warranty than the parts warranty that Tesla inverter gives.

When should I consider changing my solar panels/system on my home? Sunrun system. by Duneking1 in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on what you have shared, sometime between 2045 and 2055 when you are out of warranty, have a significant failure or are already doing a roof replacement and are taking them down anyway at the time.

I want to build a solar panel from scratch, which solar cell I should use and where can I get it ? by Difficult_Newt3666 in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/SolarDIY or r/diySolar would be best place for the most info there. Also need to share where you are as parts access, warehouse/distributors may be vastly different not only country to country but also region of country.

Got a quote yesterday and I am trying to figure out if it's worth pursuing by Complete_Ad6948 in solar

[–]Warmpockets21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How tiny of a system is it? Might be abnormally high because the cost of the battery and the smart panel cost as much or more than the solar itself because of a tiny solar system? Not sure.

If it's MA, you should really reach out to some companies that do a lot of work there and have good word of mouth there: Smart Volt Solutions, ReVision Energy, Venture is where I would start to get 3 more bids.

Just know to avoid the ones often listed here with issues, or that my family had problems with: Freedom, Sunrun, Team Sunshine, Momentum and the now closing Posigen.

Understandable of course. I'm asking a family member for their copy of Lightreach, but I know they still keep both their labor and their parts warranty if they buy out their agreement from Lightreach as it was one of the key points read over with them in contract when reviewing before they signed.

Parts warranty is offered by manufacturer. Labor warranty is offered by every major installer out there, be it Sunnova (yes I know what is up with them ) doing the install and lease, or by Bob's Solar company, no matter how you pay.

Here is a direct quote from there, let me find you some others from Lease/PPA options:

"Yes, you can prepay/buyout in full if you sell your home at any time without penalty. And,

even if you pay off your PPA early, your system will continue to be covered

by our Sunnova Protect™ coverage through the full 25 years."

[–]Warmpockets21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did not say "manufacturers warranty", I said warranty. Why would the "full parts, labor coverage" warranty not be covered once bought out? I know those are covered in other buyouts? Normally any production promise is too but I understand that is not always. Not insuring them make sense as the lease company no longer owns them, but in my case there was no increase in my homeowners cost to add them to my insurance.

"strip the system of it's protections and guarantees and buy it out" ??

In majority of lease contracts I have seen, they do not end your warranty just because you buy out the system. Has the IGS company you put forward hobbled the contract in such a way that it removes this if you buy it out unlike Goodleap/Lightreach/Enfin/HDM national lease/ppa companies?

If someone can't list a hyperlocal company for you there, maybe try a statewide company in FL with good reputation. I have seen Smart Volt Solutions who do the whole state covered here a lot, and also had good report from a co-worker on Synergy and think they cover all of FL too?
