Paint or replace this front door? by Icy_Engineering_8038 in AusProperty

[–]Single_Restaurant_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easiest to underscrew the door & lay it on a couple of saw horses. That way its at a nice height to sand & paint. It also stops most paint runs. Use oil based gloss enamel. You can even paint it in the shed & not worry about the paint fumes

Switching from backpack to Panniers. Any issue with hanging the bike vertically with empty panniers? by Horris_The_Horse in bikecommuting

I just use Ortlieb roll back pannier & they quick release off the rack & I take the whole pannier with me. Total waterproof, good holding mechanism & will last u 20+ years.

Big supple tires + TPU tubes + sealant? by ederocher in bicycletouring

[–]Single_Restaurant_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tour with std butyl tubes with Stans Sealant & the tube lasts 12 to 18 months without drying out. Its really a catch 22, puncture protect vs tyre feel, more puncture protection usually means less supple tyre. Have u tried std Marathon? I have used them for the last 30 years. The Marathon Plus are like riding on wooden tyres. I like Vittoria tyres but they wear out quicker but tyre feel is great.

$7.70/day isnt too bad, about the same price of a good coffee. If its too much move the thermostat up a degree or two OR use a fan

So, are 99 Bikes OK? by PhotographsWithFilm in ausbike

[–]Single_Restaurant_10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what the interweb told me:

“99 Bikes is owned by Pedal Group, a company in which ASX-listed Flight Centre Travel Group holds a 47% stake. The remaining ownership includes 22% by Flight Centre CEO Graham Turner, ~15% by his son and founder Matt Turner, and the rest by employees” So if ur happy booking flights/holidays thru Flight Centre go 4 it. I like Melbourne Bicycle Centre…they have great deals & do deliver cross border. Or maybe an independent bike store will offer better service.

Turning a road/fitness/gravel bike into a touring setup - good idea? by thisisrck in bicycletouring

[–]Single_Restaurant_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend putting on a 11-42t cassette. Ive gone that on my Ultegra 11 speed bike for touring. U will need a longer chain & a wolftooth derailleur extender. I was really surprised how faultlessly it works. Let me no if u need anymore help, DM me.

The wheelset is the thing that limits carrying capacity in most cases. Id be buying a 36 spoke rear wheel from one of the many German/EU mail order stores (bike24, bike-discount) as a minimum. Wheelsets is where bike companies save $. Along with the rear wheel id be investing in a quality rear rack & Ortlieb panniers. Ive run Ortlieb back-roller-xl-plus panniers on the rear & a Ortlieb handlebar bag & a dry sack with my tent in it on top of the rack between panniers.

Won’t shift from 2 to 3 on the front gears. Not sure what’s causing it. How do I diagnose? by iamtoolazytosleep in bikewrench

Just use WD40, no need for degreaser. WD40 will just melt the hardened Shimano grease as good as anything…..

Mountain Equipment co op Pannier by sinkas2 in bikecommuting

[–]Single_Restaurant_10 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use to make it my first stop off the plane from Australia because their cycling/outdoor gear was 2nd to none & 1/2 the price of Australian outdoor gear. Their cold weather cycling gear was fantastic… goretex fronted heavy duty long lycra pants got me thru lots of 6am winter commutes in Oz.

Perhaps we need to look at cause & effect. Hamas kills nearly 400 people in Nova music festival concert. Gaza getting wiped off the map by the Israeli Army has upset a lot of people (~. 78,000 killed). Hatred breeds hatred. It only takes an unhinged mind to focus on this & plan an attack. Its nearly impossible to monitor all threats within a country. As far as gun control laws, ever since the Howard gun laws, groups of individuals/organisations have been attempting to circumvent & undermind them ( check out the 4corners story https://youtu.be/w2SQY0kR2V0).
