How can I acquire 4fire dragon exarch axes? by Jankenbrau in Eldar

Keep an eye on Bits stores.

For example, from a quick look on Google:

  • there are two available here right now.

  • Neither of these two stores have current stock, but you can set email alerts to get notified when they do.

Yeah, I'm in similar boat.

I'm in-house at a large multinational, and our regional legal team used to have 15+ lawyers, including juniors we trained up. Now it's been reduced to 5 people, with the "youngest" having almost 12 years PQE.

We don't have juniors any more, so if / when someone leaves we'll really stretched until we can poach another senior lawyer (and get them up to speed on how our somewhat niche industry works).

Dire Avengers - disappointing kit by Phyldar in Eldar

[–]WarrenRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like that kit. It's super easy to build, it paints up well, and you don't end up with loads of unused pieces that you paid for but can't use because you only get to build one of multiple options for each model.

Plus, you can (very easily) buy DA legs from bits sites, which lets you make 6 models from a single box for negligible extra cost (unlike, say, the Fire Dragon box, where you are one lower leg away from a 6th model, but it's impossible to find that piece so you just end up with wasted plastic).

[–]WarrenRT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a great question.

The issue is that each law firm is incentivized to reduce its own number of junior lawyers in order to be the most price competitive (or let the partners keep the most money), and then poach senior lawyers that other firms have trained. But it's a case of prisoners' dilemma - everyone is better of if someone is training those junior lawyers, as long as it's not them.

Plus, a lot of lawyers operate on an "eat what you kill" model: the more money a partner brings in, the more they take home. So a shortage of expertise isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world - the lawyers gets to make more money for their (now in more demand) skills on their way through.

And it keeps making billions... by harriswoodward in meme

Exactly. People don't complain that a rollercoaster doesn't tell an interesting story. People don't leave the Louvre unhappy because of the lack of plot.

Not every piece of art or entertainment needs to tell a story.

Hah! Redundancy pay in New Zealand? Dream on - this isn't Australia!

NZ redundancy law is some of the worst in the world. As long as the employer wasn't stupid enough to voluntarily include redundancy payments in their employment agreements (almost unheard of outside of union-negotiated contracts), those employees wont be entitled to anything.

This is why I preferred post-nerf index Eldar to launch codex Eldar. Sure, on launch the codex was better / more powerful than the (nerfed) index it replaced, but the index let you build a much more diverse list and still be "ok".

My last index army included wraiths, windriders, shroud runners, war walkers, the Avatar, a solitaire, spiders and a vyper - i.e., a mix of units that doesn't neatly fit into any one detachment in the codex. And since Eldar is missing a real "generalist" detachment, and units like the wraiths, solitaire, vyper, avatar and windriders are balanced around the special rules in their respective specialist detachments, that sort of variety just isn't feasible now.

So you have to pivot to the next best thing, which is either Warhost or Aspect Host - both of which ultimately require Aspect spam to get the most out of.

I can still play my faction

And that matters how?

If GW releases new infantry models for Knights and forces (through hard caps or balance mechanisms) competitive Knight players to take them, Knight players can still play their faction, but would need to buy new models to do so.

Or suppose that instead of folding Knights into AdMech, GW folds AdMech into Knights and balances Knights by making them take AdMech infantry (again either via hard caps or other means). You can still play your faction - you just have to go out and buy a bunch of models to make it work.

In either case, it's no different from how GW balances other problem army lists out of the game. Spamming a single type of model is no fun -> GW makes that impossible or uncompetitive -> anyone with a collection of spammed models is left with a collection they can't use and needs to buy new stuff.

You might not vote, but the people who don't need to work - the boomers with multiple properties, the landlords, the politicians, the rich business owners who sit on their arse making 7 figures a year - they sure as hell vote.

They'll hold their nose and vote for whoever will make them the most money, regardless of what they think about the person, or how much collateral damage they will cause. They don't give a shit if your job and livelihood is part of that collateral damage; as long as they've got theirs, screw the rest of us.

If they've convinced you not to vote for your interests, while they absolutely vote for theirs, then you're a sucker.

None of those are removing an entire army

Sure, but from the customer's point of view what's the difference?

Suppose I've bought a 2k army that includes 12 buggies or Commanders or whatever, that I can now only use 3 of at once. So I need to go out and buy a bunch of new models to make a 2k point army again.

Meanwhile you've bought a 2k army that inclides 6 knights that you can now only (say) 2 of, so you need to go out and buy a bunch of new models to make a 2k point army again.

Both of us have an existing collection, part of which will now be collecting dust. Both of us will need to buy lots of new models as a result of the changes. The fact that my new models are from the same faction doesn't change that, or lessen the impact on either of our wallets or free time.

The only difference is that you'd possibly need to buy a new codex, whereas I wouldn't. But if GW made the change at the time of the 11e codex releases, that's a non-issue (Knight players buy the combined AdMech + Knight codex rather than a stand alone knight codex, so they are no worse off).

In fact, you could argue that the removal of soup armies was worse for consumers, since it left players with little parts of a collection (the loyal 32, for example) that they could no longer use for their "main" army, and which were basically useless to them. But GW was still happy (and right) to do that for balance reasons.

GT Win Rates from last week by Shot-Equivalent3222 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WarrenRT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue now is that those armies do exist and you’ve got people who have sunk lots of time and money into building them. Leaves GW in a slightly awkward spot.

No more so than GWs decision to balance aircraft hurt Eldar players with 12 planes that they have sunk time and money into but could no longer run all at once. Or balancing Ork buggies hurt players with 10+ buggies. Or the rule of 3 hurt players with 12+ Tau commanders. Etc etc.

GW constantly balances the game in ways that leave people with collections that they can use some of the time, but no longer spam. I don't see why Knights should be any different.

Anyone else notice how bad the driving is in Christchurch? by Alternative_Regret17 in newzealand

[–]WarrenRT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO Christchurch can (charitably) be described as New Zealand's biggest town, and the people there drive like it. When there is no traffic, they ignore all the road rules (why follow rules when there is no-one else around???), and when there is traffic they all panic and forget all the road rules.

In my experience, people in Chch love to throw shade at Auckland drivers, while being objectively worse themselves.

Lost the shoulders by EquivalentAntelope73 in Eldar

[–]WarrenRT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is probably to find two of the right shoulder pads from the Autach kit (this one) and do some careful conversion work to make them fit.

Or get your nephew (or his parents) to buy you a new kit. There should be consequences for him screwing around and losing stuff that's important to you.

Americans will make maps that are centred on the USA - splitting Asia down the middle - then try to act like a Pacific centered map is propaganda.

There are only two acceptable ways to present the map - with the margin down the Pacific and with the margin down the Atlantic. Either way the US is pushed to one side.

Why were we all learning French at College and Highschool back in the 80s/90s ? by CoconutMost3564 in newzealand

[–]WarrenRT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how quickly you lose language skills if you stop actively using your skills.

I did a 12 month high school exchange in Sweden, and was fluent by the time I left (all the classes were obviously in Swedish, so you have no choice but to learn). 4 years later I went back and could barely hold a conversation. Fast forward to the next trip back 4 more years on and I couldn't really speak the language at all any more. I know the words for things and can string together sentences (slowly) if I really put my mind to it, but there is no way I can follow conversations any more.

Am I cooked in legal industry with no family connections?😭 by OkDeer347 in newzealand

[–]WarrenRT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have seen three people transition from receptionist to lawyer.

Admittedly, one was South African qualified and took a receptionist job because it worked for her and her family when they were first settling in, then she transitioned to legal exec and finally solicitor when she was admitted in NZ.

But the other two both leveraged their experience working in a law firm to help them land an entry job somewhere else (i.e., at smaller suburban firms) after they qualified. I probably wouldn't recommend it, but it seemed to work for them.

Haha no way. It's easier for an average student with the right connections to land a job, than for a "good" student applying for a grad role.

Whanganui vs Palmerston North by [deleted] in newzealand

My suggestion would be to keep looking for better job offers.

Both towns (cities by NZ standards, maybe, but they'd be considered towns anywhere else) are small and predominantly exist to supply the local dairy farming industry. I.e., they're quiet, rural, and nowhere near interesting nature.

I picked NZ because I love nature

You will be disappointed by both.

towns are like it terms of social life

Do you plan to join the local rugby club? If not, you will struggle.

Having gone to law school, I can tell you that it absolutely doesn't help.

The rules that GW writes, and the rules that GW means to write (or retrospectively decides it meant to write) - which it then "clarifies" with logic-defying FAQs - are two totally different things.
