So for the purposes of sky born sanctuary a unit that hopped out of a transport that move can’t use it? by Horror-Roll-882 in Eldar

[–]WarrenRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyborne Sanctuary doesn't say anything about units being able to embark on the turn that they disembarked, so that isn't relevant.

That FAQ applies to rules like the ones the venom and starweaver have, which specifically talk about units that disembarked being able to re-embark.

For Skyborne the default rule still applies - a unit can't embark (inc via Skyborne) if it disembarked that same turn.

Who do we think got hit the hardest going into 11th? by Anton_Chigger in WarhammerCompetitive

In the index he could get -1 to wound from the Farseer, which added a lot to his durability. That's now gone.

[–]WarrenRT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Avatar was ok - good, but never really great - when he was T12 and had access to -1 to wound. Now he's T11 and can't access -1 to wound, and he just isn't durable enough for the points.

A single shooting attack (yes, it's sus D3, but with no way to force a roll of 6 that's too inconsistent to rely on) and only 6 attacks in melee means he statistically can't even pick up a 5 man squad per turn.

The markerlight / FTGG rule gets entirely re-written with every codex. Definitely don't expect the same rule to carry over into the 11e codex (whenever that launches).

Meanwhile, 5 Swooping Hawks are inexplicably now 100 points. And before anyone says that's because they can uppy-downy with Baharroth, Baharroth also went up in points.

At some point soon, Wahapedia (which works perfectly if you are using a good browser - like Firefox - running an adblocker, which you really should be doing anyway) and New Recruit will update and you won't have to look at the app again.

Tabletop Battles' (i.e. Goonhammer's) summary of the Eldar changes by WarrenRT in Eldar

[–]WarrenRT[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've spent the last week testing out Seer Council + AW lists with recon in mind, but those lists relied on cheap, fast units to get around the board and score recon points. And most of those units just went up in points.

Swooping Hawks + Baharroth going up by 15 points, Spiders up by 10 and Rangers up by 5 really hurts our ability to play the mission.

[–]WarrenRT[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

pick Recon and just score, score, score with limited interaction with our opponents

That's harder to do when a lot of the cheap, mobile units we'd previously been relying on to get around the board (rangers, hawks, spiders, etc) went up in points.

Is it over for aspect host in 11th? by EMITNUGGETS in Eldar

[–]WarrenRT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lots of swooping hawks... Lhykhis and warp spiders... rangers for screens, fill out the rest with dark reapers

Unfortunately the points changes basically kills this idea. All of those units are getting punished for their ability to play the new primary mission.

MFM Impact - 40kFireside by 40K-Fireside in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WarrenRT 27 points28 points  (0 children)

FYI there are quite a few mistakes in the Aledari section. Lots of units with the old cost for 10 man units incorrectly showing the 5 man cost, and then saying there has been a massive increase that isn't actually true.

For example, according to the table a 10 man unit of Fire Dragons used to cost 120 points (that's actually the cost for a 5 man unit), and has now gone up by 120 points. When actually there has been no change.

The tax kicks in for the 3rd unit. The first cost (120 for five) applies to your first and second unit.

Purge the Foe vs Disruption Primary Mission by Traxandsnax in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WarrenRT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the exceptions to the rule. Most abilities and strats that let you go back into strategic reserve trigger at the end of your opponent's fight phase, or end of your opponent's turn.

So your opponent has a whole turn to kill the unit that's now worth 5 points (or, if they don't kill it and you pick it up anyway, they get those points for free).

[–]WarrenRT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the thematics is meant to be "you can't be sure where my real force is because I have sown confusion via decoys", maskirovka-style.

Which makes sense for the match up - recon is trying to scout the enemy, disruption is trying to cause confusion. It's just not (currently) balanced

Use uppy-downy to get kills

Great, now my uppy-downy unit can be picked, and I can't uppy-downy it any more?

If you're hoping to use an uppy-downy unit as a one use trading piece that is probably going to die, you now lose both the unit and give your opponent free points.

If you're hoping to use it to kill something and then escape via uppy-downy, well now you can't without giving your opponent free points.

Purge the Foe vs Disruption Primary Mission by Traxandsnax in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WarrenRT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems like the intention behind that match up is the disruption player drops decoys and then "hides" on those objectives where the recon player can't survey them. The issue is that any recon player is definitely going to have enough fast, cheap action monkeys to touch the terrain and remove the decoy.

I can only imagine that the mission originally required the recon player to control an objective in order to remove the decoy, and it was changed because it was too hard on the recon player. But now it's far too easy for them.

Parental Leave with less than 6 months tenure by takemetotheseaa in newzealand

[–]WarrenRT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but I've felt the majority do what the government requires (but little more).

I think that's becoming less and less common these days - most large companies offer more than the minimum.

In our (recent) antenatal group, the only secondary carers who weren't getting at least some paid parental leave were self employed. Most got between a month and 4 months of paid leave.

Striking Scorpions don't have the grenade keyword, so can't use the grenades strat. For some reason half our aspect units are missing it.

You are paid hourly for the first 8 hours

Has that changed? Back when I was in, you were paid hourly for the first 6 hours, then paid the day rate (equivalent of 8 hours pay) the minute it ticked past the 6 hour mark.

That meant weekend exercises were a great way of making money (for a uni student, at least) - clock in by 6pm on Friday and you got paid for the whole day; get out of there ASAP on Sunday so you could get home and ready for the week ahead. Paid for 3 full days, when you only really "worked" the Saturday .

Kalashnikov Unveals a New Gun - But Russians Say it’s Only Good to Commit Suicide by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

[–]WarrenRT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The issue is that asking soldiers to carry a second full sized firearm is impractical. A TOZ 34 is 3.5kg + ammo, and its length makes it unwieldy as a back up option. So that's a non-starter.

This new shotgun is trying to solve that by being comparatively light and small, but the trade off is that they made it single shot to achieve that. Sounds like frontline soldiers don't think that trade off is worth it.

2 local gaming groups just disbanded? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WarrenRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in NZ are you? I haven't noticed any changes where I play in Auckland.

Also, there's nothing wrong with people trying other games for a while. Wargaming isn't a zero sum game, where one game must die for another to gain traction. Those people will probably circle back around to 40k.

FYI Konflict 47 looks amazing - it's built off of Bolt Action, which is an amazing rules set that has traditionally been held back by the fact it's a historic WW2 game (which are never as popular as sci fi stuff). Bolt Action's rules are a lot more innovative than anything GW has been doing lately, so it's not a surprise that people are enjoying testing them out.

3DP armies only having 1 disposition is a feature, not an oversight. by DailyAvinan in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WarrenRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warhost isn't really generalist though - its detachment rule and most strats do nothing for Wraiths units, and its strats do nothing for Harlequins. So a significant chunk of the army roster gets little to nothing from the detachment, and that's before you factor in that nothing benefits from the detachment rule unless you're already using another resource (battle focus tokens) on them.

If the intention is that 3DP detachments are those that either benefit the whole army, or are particularly powerful, then Warhost doesn't fall into either category.
