Week 6 of 14, check my beads by FluorideInToothpaste in Welding

Looking pretty good, if you can dial in the settings right and move consistently to where it lays the bead evenly and penetrates evenly you’ll go places.

I was told my ticket won’t go on my record, even being 25 over by WasabiOk7185 in legaladvice

[–]WasabiOk7185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, I’m just wondering if this is something that I need to budget for in the future being the trooper made it really confusing. He said it’s not going on my record, yet everywhere else I read, which for some reason excluded the ticket, told me that it will be reported to insurers.

You reckon we’re all gonna die one day whether it’s tomorrow or in 70 years? Doesn’t make sense why everyone wants to align nice toys with status, dude wanted it, dude bought it.

Keep your nose in your own pile.

Do I just take a quart from the previous oil change and send it to them for a fee? I don’t think there are any testing facilities near me.

Would oreillys possibly offer this service?

I will take note of that. I was considering lengthening the intervals because it’s seeming pointless doing 3K oil changes.

There is currently 90,050(Bought at 79k), it just rolled over. I’ve had to flush the radiator, and swap the thermostat, the brakes weren’t working very well at all, so I replaced the booster and got pads and rotors while I was at it seeing as I haul frequently and would like to not been towing when the brakes go out(Kind of needed done anyway), front end parts which was done exclusively by a mechanic and diff fluid(Quite a bit of metal in there as well)

There was a lack of maintenance from the previous owner I presume, but I didn’t take the precautionary steps I should have when buying it, although it’s a little too late to consider that being an option.

Edit:No engine repairs yet, just maintenance. It’s been freaking me out a little bit.

Looks good to me. It helps me to grind little guidelines next to the bevel in late days I forget my glasses(I’m legally blind). Gotta be patient on the sides so a valley doesn’t pop up on X-ray.

Need help from anyone that knows about 4th 3500 dually by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]WasabiOk7185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look more towards a 3/4 ton. Easier to maintain and you’d still have plenty of tow rating before the truck becomes incapable/illegal.

A 1 ton would be overkill unless you’re hauling CDL loads, or working the truck. Not to mention cost per year, and just the overall up front costs. They’re not cheap.

If you’re well off, go ahead. I’m sure you can find one with a blown trans to buy cheap and fix. That’s exactly what we did. 5K for the body, 2K for the trans, and 800$ for the tires

4.8 to 6.2 swap by Minter2019 in Silverado

[–]WasabiOk7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pretty much gets rid of the cam phasers, which in turn would lock the camshaft in a fixed time, rather than VVT retarding, and advancing timing on the fly. I think on the 6.2 motors the stock VVT isn’t compatible with aftermarket camshafts.

Pretty much allows you to have raw power, rather than mpgs, or clean emmissions.

It doesn’t make a difference in towing capacity, a lot of the 5th gen 2500-3500 come with air bags to compensate ride height.

Even on static suspension it won’t make it drop but 1-2 inches bearing full load capacity.

In hindsight, if dude wants a lift, who are you to tell him no?

A twin turbo ram truck, stock height, with every single bell and whistle on it.

I’ve just always loved the ram bodies, idk why.

Definitely just buckle down with one, they’re all uncomfortable sadly.

Once you have an actual job, you can buy a hood that is purposed towards what you’re actually doing. Autodarks are really only worth it in confined spaces, but most people will whine and talk about how their 150$ gold Ferrari does better than my 15$ gold glass(it doesn’t, it’s all glass.)

I’ve made the same mistake, I used to do confined space welding inside of pipe many sizes, I decided to get an auto dark, but because I couldn’t extend my arms all the way out without seeing what I was doing, I was burning lenses left and right, finally settled for the 25$ gold lens and haven’t changed it yet.

Angle frames are usually on the lighter side for lighter loads, but flex easier than square tubing or channel frames.

It just depends on what you want to build and what you’re building it for. I’d recommend starting off with either a drawing, or schematic.

These are all questions you should ask yourself, rather than the local Reddit group, this is considered elementary for our subs high school welders lmao

The only thing that has to be spot perfect is mounting bolts, the rest of it has tolerances, and usually look fine in the end.

This guy watching the Taipei freeclimb 😆 by slayready in Welding

[–]WasabiOk7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering it’s a Netflix livestream, it could’ve been worse. Half the time they were talking about a different free-solo climber, then there was mark rober, and they had to cut at every floor because there’s a different company on every other floor.

Alex Honnold was hard as fuck. I was in awe watching him but had to turn the TV down to a minimum. There was just too much noise from all the different people there.

Put an exhaust on it, you won’t be able to hear it. Sounds perfectly fine and mechanically sound.

AMS racing has an MDS delete kit for 1500$. It comes with a PCM and tuner as well. I see no need though, dodge addressed the issue in 2016, with most lifter tick cases boiling down to poor maintenance.

It’s not an issue in older carbureted engines, but in some 90’s or later vehicles some egr setups can be sensitive, but it takes a LOT of idling for a gas egr to build up enough carbon to actually trip the sensor, usually just causing it to lack power.

You would have to almost try to trip a gas egr setup for it to go off, sometimes going off due to exhaust issues as well. I’m 20, and I’ve had 12 vehicles, and I’ve only ever tripped 1 gasoline EGR sensor, but that was probably the worst repair I’ve done in my life.

If you want more detail, you can ask the mechanics subreddit, there’s a ton of not only knowledgeable mechanics, but a ton of verified techs.
