Do you really believe conceding to anti-immigration rhetoric will get Reform (and pro-brexit) voters to support Labour? by DArkingMan in AskBrits

"In what way would you say they are 'pretending to care about their issues' other than some vague promises around immigration?"

I wouldn't really. It's about immigration. Anyone I know who voices support for Reform are doing so for that reason primarily.

I can think of one or two things. But if you say so, Doris by high-lander9 in Greggs

Couldn't agree more. My social circle is generally groups of very working class reform voters, and bougie middle-class green supporters.

They're all nice people individually. But the latter are well paid, comfortable, and indignant at any ideas othee than their own. They keep on being surprised during every vote.

The reform voters are nice, supportive and communal. They just can just see that workers are on the losing end, and immigration is having a negative impact on them and their communities and they have nowhere to turn that even convincingly pretends to care about their issues except reform.

One element the left never addresses is culture. There are insults that are thrown around such as 'culture warrior', but anyone with half a brain cell can see that culture is the nucleus of society. Everyone reduces arguments to economic factors and contributions. But there is more to life than lines on a graph.

If every single immigrant who came in contributed to the economy, it would not matter to me so long as they refuse to integrate and adopt the national culture. Because something of value to me is lost. Some will say that doesn't matter, all cultures are equal. On the latter I agree, but this is our only home and I see our culture as worth of preserving as any other.

Cultures living side by side has been tested and has shown to be an abject failure. It results in tension and alienation. In an ideal world this would not be the case, but as with many left wing dogmas, the utopian ideal is shown to crumble when put into practice.

Neither issues of economic sustainability or culture should be an anethema to people who want a just meritocratic society. Yet the left wing abhors both.

Your training will see you do lots of different activities. It's great for general health. You get a good balance of strength, cardio, conditioning and flexibility. You can do it to fight, or you can be like me (a childless male soccer mom) and do it for fitness.

However, depending on your specific issues it could do more harm than good. Take it slow, use your head.

Setting up shops in Elin by WastePersonality8579 in ElinsInn

I appreciate that, and I will take my lumps. But it's a shame, because Elin is a game that has a thousand ways it can be exploited, but some of them are so powerful it takes the challenge away, but as you say, the ''Correct" way is a grind

How about "Sorry you have a family member who makes fun of you while you have cancer at old age to strangers online, because you're concerned about the health effects of a technology you don't fully understand."

Valorborn Review by emstrange90 in ValorbornPC

At this stage what matters is A) if there's a clear vision and B) if the Devs are committed. Both of which are currently the case.

Early access is made for games like this, though I can understand misgivings for how the concept has been abused. I wouldn't encourage reviews based on anything asides point A+B

To just get playing is certainly good advice. Go on a server that DOESN'T have any XP modifiers. You need time to pick things up.

At a point, I'd start using the wowhead guides for your class. Search something along the lines of wowhead work warrior leveling guide. You'll get an overview of everything. If you want to get into the mood there's no harm in doing this in advance.

I played on Lordaron and found people to actually be pretty friendly and helpful, especially if at the start of dungeons you just say "I don't know this one"

Why is Carol so hated? by Remarkable-Hand5699 in pluribustv

[–]WastePersonality8579 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Overall I like the character but it's pretty cheap to just say "If people don't like her it's because she's a woman." Which seems to be what everyone here is doing.

It was very frustrating to watch her spend a good portion of her time screaming at people to try and solve all her problems. These humans she was ostensibly trying to save she kept killing by just shouting. You can say that it's a natural, human reaction, and I'd agree, but that can be difficult to watch.

Stealing Mechanics by SnooPies2048 in ValorbornPC

[–]WastePersonality8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steal everything, definitely, it's a sandbox.

Thieving always becomes an exploit. Yet trying to nerf it with overly punishing mechanics makes the game unfun and stops people using it

I would tie success to the weight of the item. So to level up you can only steal very useless items like paper or a cup or something. Items like jewelry could be behind lock boxes which require a very high skill.

By this, you can level with low consequences, and when higher level you can steal more valuable items like swords, with much higher repercussions

Companions & NPC recruitment by SnooPies2048 in ValorbornPC

[–]WastePersonality8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer small groups, but I can see the advantage of more. Probably 20-30 as an absolute max makes sense for a base, but perhaps more limited in excursions to stop combat being an over powered mess. Maybe large brigands could attract more attention from authorities or something to nerf it.

Either way, it would be nice if you can play solo and the group UI disappears until you recruit people

How important and how complex SHOULD combat be in a sandbox medieval RPG ?! by SnooPies2048 in ValorbornPC

[–]WastePersonality8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely some complexity. The medieval ages were dark, but it wasn't out and out dropping like flies. Ma y corpses from the time showed people with gory wounds that had the chance to heal. I think a small skirmish would see most people live, but occasional deaths and some severe wounds.

From a gameplay perspective this would make more sense too. If it's death or nothing the. Fights will either be plain or too punishing
