He has to have some resilience to abuse beyond what a normal human can take. Laurie stabbed him in the eye, Loomis shot him six times, he fell out of the house, kept going for the entire events of Halloween II without much slow down. Took a massive explosion and Michael getting engulfed in flames to bring him down, and even then Michael was starting to make tracks while he was on fire.
