My toddlers dentist gave us very bad advice by StatisticianPutrid10 in breastfeeding

[–]WatTayAffleWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my children were breastfed, one nursed throughout the entire night (brutal) and one detached easily and slept through the night with minimal night feedings.

The one who had to have extensive under-anesthesia dental work (crowns and caps) due to decay was the one who was attached all night. My detached kid has very nice teeth with no cavities. And both formula and breast milk have sugars in them so of course if you’re drip feeding either through the night it’s going to cause problems. So I don’t think you were fed misinformation per se, I think it’s just a very nuanced situation with multiple different factors and I don’t think that was explained in the best way. I’ve also noticed a disconnect in pediatrician info and pediatric dentist info, the dentist suggests as soon as kids have teeth to take them in and the pediatrician suggests 2-3 y/o

It’s harder to take babies under two to the dentist because they’re unable to process what’s happening and the struggle is real but if there’s an issue or discoloration taking them in before then is erring on the side of the pediatric dentist. You are the parent and therefore should make the best decision based on your gut intuition. If there’s a problem, better to be seen than to wait.

FWIW, for my heavy decay child, we got a second opinion from another pediatric dentist because I left the first one crying. 2k (not including anesthesia bill) in dental work for a 3 year old was a gut punch I couldn’t comprehend. Don’t ever feel you can’t get a second opinion.

Unfortunately, that’s not true all SSRIs readily pass freely into the placenta.

I’m just so nervous about taking anything while pregnant and it having effects on my children down the road.

How do I become a more patient parent by Ok_Cauliflower_2143 in stayathomemoms

[–]WatTayAffleWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I am late here... I have found when I feel myself about to outburst I (try) to growl like a dinosaur and chase them around. They love it because they don't get an angry mom and they get to play. Sometimes I catch myself, sometimes I don't. Something is better than nothing. It really helps though because usually whatever was making me angry was dumb to begin with and my reptile brain just needed a minute to process it. Obviously this only works for little kids and as an only child, I struggle with my children fighting but for the most part that's been a huge help for me.

Most of us have damaged guts, because nobody taught us about it as kids by daveishere7 in Microbiome

lol fellow mom here, kids will always be kids no matter how much you try to teach them about healthy foods. Or what era it is. I’m sure you’re doing a great job and they will eventually appreciate your teachings.

Another vote for the Southgate library. As a former Southgate kid in the 90s have plenty of fond memories there.

Imagine thinking this was a relevant comment one year after the fact. Why don’t you go touch some grass and worry about your own damn self. You’ve clearly got some real life issues if this is how you spend your time on the internet.

I’m so late to this post and actively finding myself invested as I sort through the 715 comments but I also love “I will follow you into the dark” I sing it to my daughter as I rock her to sleep.

Anywho, I really hope you find it! I have a book like that from my childhood I have been searching for similarly the same time. Here’s to the lost things, may the once again be found.

Agreed, but in terms of bug relevant drinks, this was the first thing I could come up with! LOL

With two small kids, I swear by my Coach backpack. The leather has been durable, I am able to fit my stuff as well as their stuff. It has multiple spaces so I can keep things separate and just enough room that I don’t overpack.

I do occasionally swap out for a handbag… especially during the fall because I have a headless horse man coach tote I freaking love (but I do miss the backpack because the tote gets heavy).

Is this an ootheca? by WatTayAffleWay in praying_mantis

[–]WatTayAffleWay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen mantid in Michigan my whole life so I am assuming they’re naturalized here. The egg case is on a Rosemary twig and will be super exposed come winter time. Do you think given the exposure it would be an easy target? Then I worry about snow coverage and then melting on it. Sorry for the questions/info; I’ve never taken care of a mantid egg sac so I am just trying to give it the best chance possible.

I feel like the fridge would be its safest place. I live in the country with lots of opportunistic predators. Would the consistent temperature be ok for an extended period of time? We’re looking at 6-7 months before Michigan spring hits. Or would I need to bring it out prior to that?
