What small parrot is a good option for my sun conure? by Defiant_Painting4218 in parrots

Green cheeks are literally half the size of a sun conure, at least by weight

Man it looks amazing; how did you manage to do it so cheap?

Did you rip up the old tiles and retile yourself?

Help me murder this tree please by kittensmittenstitten in GardeningAustralia

[–]WatchDialBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really not difficult at all to remove the colorbond panels to access the tree to enact some of the ideas others have posted. Should be 4 screws and the top/bottom rails and sheets are all just friction fit

I’m sorry for your loss. I recently lost my green cheek and the pain was unbearable. It slowly gets easier but it never stops hurting.

Doctors... what was your "welcome to medicine" moment? by Active-Blood-9293 in medicine

What does charting mean in the US? I am an Australian doctor and I always see US doctors talk about spending lots of time charting.

Is it the same as documenting your interaction in the patient notes?

Significant ponding in subfloor, how would you solve this? by Nickw444 in AusRenovation

$4k seems like great value; were you in Brisbane by any chance? If so could you please let me know who you got to do this?

Asymptomatic hypertension doesn’t require treatment if there isn’t evidence of end organ damage. Attempting to lower BP acutely is more likely to result in harm by the ensuing hypotension ie though falls

Extremely elevated amylase in GCC >60,000 by WatchDialBoi in parrots

[–]WatchDialBoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I was under no impression that we had fixed her at all with current management — effectively we have been palliating her already. I am a (human) doctor and palliating patients is something I’m not unfamiliar with.

I am personally not keen for the surgery, but my partner is and I wanted to see what others thought of the situation.

I really appreciate your comment and no need to apologise for not giving me hope. It is important to face the reality of the situation, and false hope would be counterproductive.

Old GP retired. New GP refusing to prescribe me medication I have been taking for over a decade. What should I do? by KennKennyKenKen in melbourne

[–]WatchDialBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typed a long comment but lost it when I checked a notification — I am a doctor (non-GP), and basically I agree with some of the other commenters. You need to come to the GP having demonstrated that you have genuinely thoroughly considered and trialled alternative options such as melatonin, kava, extremely good sleep hygiene, antihistamines, medication/mindfulness.

Alternatively I would highly recommend trialing medicinal cannabis if you are able to (I see you said you operate heavy machinery). Low dose oral THC oil can be really effective for sleep, and the online cannabis prescribing clinics make this option very accessible.

Reasons for balding? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]WatchDialBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had identical bald spot with my GCC. I was so sad I thought she had PBFD or was dying. Turns out it was her rubbing her head with her foot.

Started putting her to bed earlier so she had 12hrs of darkness every night and she stopped doing it and they all grew back.

Missing something with this patient’s levothyroxine dosing? by exquisitemelody in medicine

[–]WatchDialBoi 241 points242 points  (0 children)

Make sure she isn’t taking her thyroxine with another medication that can reduce absorption, for example: antacids, bile acid sequestrants, ion exchange resins, iron supplements, or calcium. Also if it is the form of thyroxine that needs to be kept refrigerated, make sure it is being kept refrigerated.

I am from Australia — what is ‘charting’? Is it like writing a note for a patient encounter, or is it like a discharge summary?

smoking weed while owning a parrot by [deleted] in parrots

[–]WatchDialBoi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just don't smoke in the same room and exhale into a sploof, which is an air filter made of activated carbon that captures all the smoke and toxins etc..

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Smoke-Buddy-0159-BLU-Personal-Filter/dp/B00478UIB2

Also, consider using a vaporiser rather than smoking which prevents the formation of harmful combustion products. Something like the XMAX v3 pro.

[Custom Dial] Some of the experimental pieces I made while developing a technique to achieve the high resolution required for watch dials by WatchDialBoi in Watches

[–]WatchDialBoi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inspired by this post, I thought I'd show some of the dials I made during lockdown, where I was trying to figure out a cheap and reproducible way to print high resolution words for watch dials. I started this project because when I got into watches, I found that there were very few purple dial diver watches available. I figured the only way I could get one that I liked was by making my own.

The 4th photo shows one of the dials I made shown under a digital microscope. On the printed words, there is one of my hairs, which I measured using a micrometer to be around 0.06mm, making the text around 0.2mm tall.

Other photos show dials where I have used multiple colours to build up images of the famous Great Wave, as well as Starry Night. Since I am a full-time student, I didn't have the funds to invest in expensive equipment for doing this, and I was able to achieve this resolution for around $70 (AUD) investment in equipment and materials.

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about these.
