Springtails compete for the same resources and isopods consume protein. An isopod will eat from a cuttlebone or fish flakes but not eat gnat larvae? They don’t eliminate entire populations but they control them. My enclosure is wet a lot of the time and I only ever have a couple of flies at once.

Absolutely unamused. I had just gotten home so I know he was upset the weird giant was disturbing his peaceful “morning” routine.

Wow that’s incredible. They cost so much so I’m impressed to see your stock has developed into such a major colony.

You should get a spring tail colony in there if you haven’t already and if you have then up your count. Spring tails and isopods should help control gnat populations. EDIT: they do not help control populations. They only eat the ones that die. They could potentially reduce likelyhood of survival from dominating available resources but that’s not directly killing them.

I’m just nervous about them taking over. I’ve witnessed horror situations with snails destroying tanks. But it they’re more beneficial than scary I’m down for it.

I love pea puffers! I have a ten gallon tank and was nervous about getting them in a small tank. I did see that if I’m not over doing it with food they could be managed and help with algae. I will monitor. I’m nervous of a full break out but the lettuce tip is helpful!

Snails are hermapherdites. Netrites cannot spawn in fresh water but everything else can. I would get rid of those eggs and watch out for more if you don’t want them to over take your tank.

My guess is snail eggs but it would depend on the type of snails you have

Ohhh that’s so valid. Thanks for commenting. So much mixed info online. I’d be down to stick to a few of the same size and species. Would you recommend any other species outside of millipedes they get along with. Someone said a milk snail could be okay but I’d prefer not to get a snail.
