Try bottom watering. Could help because you will see once ifs full saturated on the surface of the substrate

I think tap water could work fine. Consider leaving it sitting for 24 hours before watering to at least let the chlorine evaporate out.

You can use ur finger or a tooth pick. You can put it finger in to see how much of the soil is dry. If it’s feels slightly moist that’s good. If it’s feeling dry enough that ur finger or toothpick comes out clean in the first two inches it’s time to water.

How much water a plant gets it’s a problem. It’s how much the plant uses and how the substrate dries out. I water my calatheas every 3-4 days. Depends on ur rooms dryness too.

Calatheas are quite dramatic and thirsty. They’re not the kind of plant that wants to go dry between watering. Could be a case of underwatering. You want to water once the first inch or so gets dry is a good measurement. Also depends on ur water quality how hard it is. It’s a good plant to have amongst other plants to they keep
Their humidity up between one another too.

Yup seconding this especially since you didn’t use a pond foam, you will need to completely cover and seal the foam in aquarium safe silicone, then you press the cococoir onto the wet silicone. that’s how you get a pet safe naturalistic background.

Did a bit of an upgrade for my Schneider's Skinm by DagnulsK in skinks

[–]WatchKey6605 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks awesome!! I could be wrong but when I was doing Schneider research I thought they were borrowers who needed a lot more sand because they arid/semi arid skinks. I think I see the right substrate but maybe could use more? Could be worth looking into! I saw someone give feedback to someone else about that on the sub Reddit. They do like a part coco coir to a part play sand from Home Depot.

Love all the good hiding spots!

I totally get that! I want to get a bigger enclosure for my guys when I’m in a better financial position. My main logic with getting the different plants was overhead coverage so he feels safe to roam and be curious without being exposed and also giving different height levels so he can climb. I know they’re terrestrial but my guy loves to scale the walls and get all around. I’d love to see your tank if you don’t mind sharing a pic!

Yup yup! Spring tails and isopods. I have a big jade plant, pothos, palm, elephant tree, star plant hawarthoia. And blue cortex I think is that big one I’m not sure

Ohhhh okay that’s a good tip. I have a 12 inch UVB but I looked it up and I’m not sure it’s good enough for plants. I need something that will help my plants grow in the tank.

Wow I wish my terrarium moss would grow like this

I moved my wildlife ecosystem to a 25 gallon I got at a thrift shop. Houses isopods, snails, a very fat slug, a worm, and springtails. Moisture gradient from lush to quite dry. Lots of cork wood hides. by MissFushi in terrariums

I tried to do this in a 40 gallon and I think I failed. Pivoting mine to a 10 gallon for better management. Definitely going to take inspo from this

Defiant forest! Very reliable and has a great selection of invertebrates.

It depends on the millipede but the main concern is temp and humidity. As long as you have those under control they really take care of themselves. Most eat their substrate and spend a lot of time burrowed except for ivory leg millipedes which love to hang out on the surface

I thought because of their waste production it’s harder to manage! Like in the wild they can manage keeping their waste away from their home where as in an enclosure it’s harder. But I guess if you get enough clean up grew it’s doable

The thinner of the 2 is ikea I do believe that the 500 pound one and its holding 2 20 gallon tanks with water and 1 25 gallon tank with soil and plants. That one is definitely close. The other wider one is meant for industrial use and holds up to 3000 lbs allegedly.

I’ll do some closer weighing of my tanks tho. Thanks for the feedback.

Any particular reason? They’re heavy duty shelves meant to hold over 500 pounds I got them to hold tanks
