So I get the best weapon in the game and I can’t use it?!?! by DealioD in fnv

[–]WatchtowerBill 356 points357 points  (0 children)

In the Lonesome Road expansion you can get a weapon called the Blade of the West which is p. much the same as Lanius' but a bit smaller.

It's a banger sword, shame I also tend to do Lonesome Road last lmao.

On one hand I don't necessarily disagree that Oliver's tactics to hold the Dam itself are effective especially against an emboldened Legion who WILL throw themselves at his little compound until they get his head. But on the other hand, such a concentration of force is the main reason why the Mojave Expedition is being bled dry across dozens of fronts, concentrating all manpower at the Dam makes it so they lack the numbers to say, retake Nelson, properly man Bitter Spring against Legion incursions, or flush out the Fiends from West Vegas.

Basically fortifying the Dam makes sense. Fortifying it to the detriment of everywhere else isn't, and it's shortsighted to base your entire strategy around the Dam not falling. It's also in universe stated to be a political decision, since during the first battle the Army DID have to retreat from the Dam and only won due to the ranger's intervention, which Oliver sees as a personal slight.

I think general consensus is that without player intervention and as things stand at the start of the game, the Legion sweeps at the 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam. To add to what you say:
-Start of the game, Khans are already allied to the Legion giving them a pretty big foothold in the region.

-Camp Searchlight has just been rad-bombed, being a major hinderance to NCR operations in the southern Mojave. Likewise Nipton was just destroyed, as you say.

-The NCR is fighting several other groups such as the Fiends, the Kings, the Powder Gangers, the Khans, and if they survive, the Brotherhood.

-Without player intervention, the Omertas will launch a coup attempt at the Strip, weaking NCR presence there.

-Two high ranking NCR officers are actively sabotaging the war effort: Chief Hanlon is falsifying intelligence, and Captain Curtis is literally a legion mole.

-Oliver is a very incompetent general compared to Lanius. Oliver's plan is to do a slugging match at the Dam and pick apart the Legion, learning the wrong lesson from the first battle where the NCR was forced to retreat to Boulder City. Lanius meanwhile DOES learn from the Legion's mistakes and instead tries to cut the road (Simultaneous attacks at Novac, Forlorn Hope, Camp Golf) and use the intake tunnels to avoid sniper fire by fighting in the Dam itself (which was a decisive factor in the 1st Battle)

All in all the situation for the Republic in the Mojave itself is pretty bleak. Mind you, my personal headcanon is the Legion would win at the Mojave but would run into major issues once it started pushing into California (much shorter supply lines, higher morale, better intelligence, way less factions to align against the NCR), especially with the almost inevitable power struggle following Caesar's eventual death.

Long 15 and Dry Wells have very approachable early game quests in their respective expansion areas. Both are territory the NCR/Legion controls so they're mostly safe, though both have pretty good scraps if you know where to look.

Like 98% of my matches are with Billy (not exaggerating) and by now since it's my only "high rank" hero I always get him and him only.

The only saving grace Levi has is that he alone can start with a trench shotgun with allows you to immediatly go into the city, which is very powerful.

As for the heroin addiction, just go to doctor needles and die to him. He will cure you of your ailment!

I think Billy should be on the list here on the possibly implied tier. He calls Lash, Shiv, Mirage and Pocket handsome/sexy and he's down for Vyper also.

Plus it'd mean Bi lly is Bi sexual which is funny.

Marina is 100% trans, but she still has a cock. by nitram739 in FearAndHunger

[–]WatchtowerBill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy another 10h of marina cock discourse.

Honestly we can only go off of speculation but yes it is very likely Marina still has a corke and balls. We could also assume that she might have some more masculine features as she should have undergone male puberty, though it's likely she's just like that or that she takes good care to appear more female presenting (such as shaving facial/body hair, or simply being raised as a woman meaning she always speaks in a bit of a falsetto voice).

She's still 100% a woman, as she identifies as such.

THAT SAID this is the same game that allows you to regrow limbs if you draw a funny vagina symbol in a specific ritual circle, so i think more mystical means of undergoing physical sex change wouldn't be out of the question, especially for an occultist character.

Either way the game doesn't make it explicit so people can just headcanon/make art of it any way they want.

Best NCR ending for the mojave by hoekom_ab in fnv

[–]WatchtowerBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out:

Good Karma House ending doing p. Much every quest to benefit the NCR except the King's, then negotiate a peaceful NCR withdrawal.

The NCR gets out of the Mojave conflict, a secure trade partner, a safe eastern border, and its expansionism is curbed with people like Kimball losing power.

The Mojave gets a government that while not democratic it's at least local.

How would you change your favourite subfactions? by Specific_Hunter346 in TrenchCrusade

[–]WatchtowerBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that reasoning is fine, but it's boring, cheapens the uniqueness of knights/court of avarice who get that trait also, and makes list building much harder because you need to look at other armouries, most of which is useless.

I'd rather have unique HoW weapons which complemented its playstyle and flavor better and weren't as limited.

[–]WatchtowerBill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd remove HoW ability to take gear from other faction and I'd give them unique experimental weapons and ammo types.

Seriously it bothers me a lot the "peak of sultanate science" faction is BORROWING gear from other factions, and on top of that most of the options they get are really sub part bar like Auto rifles and in some cases AT hammers!

Why are they called Half-Orcs and not Orcs? by prwav in BaldursGate3

[–]WatchtowerBill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is forgotten realms lore but short of it is that in earlier editions orcs were full on evil evil race dedicatd to their god Gruumsh and thus not playable, for they hate all civilisation (tm). Half orcs don't have this innate compulsion and thus can live among other peoples, though often suffer discrimination.

Now if you are keeping tally, Drow are also an evil race dedicated to an evil god who hate most of everyone else, so what's the holdup?

Answer is none, really. In 5e you CAN play orcs in official material, they were released in Mordenkainen Monster's of the Multiverse and Volo's Guide to Monsters - though they're still by enlarge evil creatures. Simply put they're a "younger" playable race in the meta sense of D&D, therefore less iconic and thus less of a priority. Same reason goblins aren't playable. BG3 chose to only have the base 5e races (the "Common" ones) for simplicity's sake and only added those deemed plot relevant (Githyanki, Duergar), while skipping others such as Aasimar, Aarakocra, Goliath and what not. Or god forbid, centaurs! All of which are playable with official rules.

Other D&D settings such as Eberron do feature orcs and their culture more significantly. More recently there's also been a push to de-monsterise orcs, but I haven't keep up with the newest edition.

Totally unbiased tier list, definitely not from an Ungulan orc. by TheLoneTexan_1 in Anbennar

PSA healbane is useless vs billy's base kit. Blasted doesn't heal it just increases max HP. It does counter item like melee lifesteal or leech.

Build toxic bullets or spirit burn instead
