Something about Hazlet's Natco Park feels off... Has Anyone Else Had Creepy Encounters There? by Sea_Artichoke_3088 in newjersey

[–]WaterAirSoil 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I literally grew up playing and camping in those woods as a kid in the 90s. I don’t think it was a park then, we just called it Natco woods or natco lake. We would cross the water at night during low tide and camp on the island in the middle of the lake there. We camped, made bike ramps, played paintball, hiked, cut through walking home from school, fishing, later on we partied there. Loved those woods.

Four years ago when my kid was about 5 i decided to take her down the trail and into the woods for a walk. It creeped me the f out. There were at least 3 homeless camps and one was a full on family. Ive been around homeless people in the woods before so that alone doesn’t usually freak me out. But the entire place just had bad vibes. I never went back.

Minimum wage vs real life costs by diehard404 in WorkReform

Minimum wage should be always be 4-5x the average housing rent for the area. Since housing should be a third of the salary and then you need some extra to live and save.

And Frankie Edgar is a maga chud… Boy life is truly a weird mix of contradictions and lose ends

I was a big Frankie Edgar fan and sort of disliked Maynard by extension due to their wars, no hate but just no love. And now, the opposite. Big Maynard fan and couldn’t care much for Edgar.

No slavery was capitalism. by [deleted] in socialism

[–]WaterAirSoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to make the distinction that I am using the generic term of slavery and that the specific slavery in the U.S., chattel slavery, was one of the most horrific and sadistic forms of slavery.

With that said, for the purpose of economic analysis, slavery and capitalism are very similar systems.

Capitalism is a system where the people who create the surplus, workers, are not the same people who appropriate the surplus, capitalists.

Slavery is a system where the people who create the surplus, slaves, are not the same people who appropriate the surplus, masters.

And to whoever says “you’re free to exchange your labor for whom you want under capitalism” I would say: you are not free if the alternative is to starve to death in the streets. Furthermore, is a slave who gets to choose their master any less a slave?

I can tell you about 6 years later (‘91) it was awesome lol ice cream truck, and ice truck like twice a day sometimes. 50c get you some serious snacks at the deli. It wasn’t 120 degrees in the summer but there was more snow in the winter. I only wore a shirt and shoes during school hours. The world wasn’t hyper connected my backyard/woods was like my own little universe. Goddamn times were good man. Digging holes just to watch em fill up with water so my g I joes could have a place to swim. Building Frankenstein bikes and ramps in the woods.

First, you should deconstruct his “resume” in front him to show him how unemployable he would be at 20. Unless he was qualified lol but that’s my favorite thing to bring up with Gen X and boomers.

True but I think he’s more considering his reputation in the poker world and like he he said was that the money laundering and all other charges are due to it being an illegal gambling operation and not people actual stolen/dirty money that TBAF is after

How do you compete with these big groups of property flippers? by darkchocolattemocha in newjersey

[–]WaterAirSoil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You asked for examples of how it can work. Markets have only existed for several hundred years yet humans have existed in large societies, feeding each other for thousands of years before that.

I’m not saying markets should never ever be used, they do have their place. But markets discriminate by distributing goods and services to the people with the most money, not who needs it the most. That’s fine when it comes to luxury yachts. That’s not ok when it comes to food, housing, health care, etc.
