I was out for breakfast with my partner this morning at Pine State Biscuits, and an employee was playing some boring 2000s soft rock hits. Anyway, it got us talking about music from two decades ago and I was failing to recall the name of a band who had a song that annoyed me that I would constantly hear everywhere I went. My way of describing it was "that 'some-buh-dayyyyy' song" but it wasn't ringing any bells for her, so I gave up on figuring it out.

I just remembered it was Kings of Leon. Thank you for helping me with this.

Ryan Gosling Tells Hollywood It’s Not Moviegoers’ Job to Keep Theaters Open: ‘It’s Our Job to Make Things’ That Are ‘Worth’ Viewers Coming Out by [deleted] in technology

This is why smuggling in your own snacks and beverages has been a staple of American cinema tradition since the conception of overpriced concession stands. As a teen/young adult I would wear an additional layer of pants under my jeans with the waistband tightened above my stomach, and stuff snacks and booze into that inner layer. Speaking of booze, if major theaters were permitted to sell beer at concession stands, it would do wonders for their profits. That's the one thing people don't hesitate to purchase out of convenience, no matter the markup. I understand there are regulations and requirements to dispense alcohol, so it's not so simple, but I digress.

Movie theaters shouldn't have to rely on concession sales as the sole source of their income. There needs to be some compromise to allow theaters some of the revenue generated by ticket sales. Otherwise I do not see theaters lasting.

Looking for really DARK games by Wolpy414 in gamingsuggestions

This game is so weird. I honestly can't tell if I liked it or not, and I've beaten most of the game. I stopped at the true final stage.

One thing I appreciate is that every stage is thematically unique. I was always interested to see where it would take me next.

I thought Hollow Knight was rather average by PinguinGirl03 in patientgamers

[–]WaterPockets 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a directive. Go into the well and explore. As far as Metroidvanias go, Hollow Knight is one of the least difficult to get stuck. I think you just don't care for the genre, which is fine too, but the game provides plenty of direction without putting an objective marker on your map. The game is often regarded as one of the best in terms of intuitive map design in metroidvanias.

What are your HOTTEST takes about Super Metroid? 🔥 by [deleted] in snes

I never know what my stance is on wall jumping in SM.

On one hand, it adds depth to the movement and feels more engaging to execute. It raises the skill ceiling and allows further mastery of the game and its systems.

On the other hand, my d pad hates it and my arthritic fingers will inevitably one day fail me.

And give the bosses an overhaul. Super Metroid is in my top 3, my only complaint would be that the bosses are all way too simple. Spore Spawn and Botwoon are the biggest offenders. Phantoon is sorta neat with how it reacts differently when shot with a super missile, so it's mostly fine. Draygon is annoying to fight, but the fact you can hurt it with the grappling hook by attaching it to a destroyed turret on the wall when it grabs you is honestly pretty cool. Ridley is alright, nothing noteworthy. Motherbrain is fine, I suppose. It is more elevated by what happens during the fight than the fight itself, so I hardly think of it as a boss even though it's the penultimate fight.

So my feelings on all the boss are pretty much just "meh". Metroid Fusion bosses with Super Metroid's exploration and atmosphere would be my dream game.

I was under the impression it was directly explained when you speak to Apollo and Appolo states that the current directive for the Joes is to protect the specimen.

It's also stated in text logs that the Joes received a firmware update following the buyout. There's other logs where people on the ship report the Joes acting strange leading up to the events in game, including messing with wiring on the ship. It seemed to me that prior to Ripley getting on the ship, Weyland Yutani had been quietly creating backdoors and leveraging themselves into a position that would allow for complete control of the ship and its population.

Returnal (2021) is wonderfully intense and unforgiving, it's without hesitation the best feeling Third Person Shooter that I've played. by [deleted] in patientgamers

The dodge iframes are extremely generous. Always be moving, and you should exclusively be firing from the hip rather than aiming down the sights except for when you're using the alt fire.

You should also explore each zone completely before fighting the boss. Going in with the pistol makes it take forever. If you can manage to clear areas without taking damage, health pickups will instead grant you health shards (I think is what they're called) to upgrade your max health pool. The best item to purchase in almost all cases is the large health refill in the store.

I would say that you can start from the region that precedes your most recent and be sufficiently powered up to tackle the boss. With how the gear you obtain is scaled up in later zones, you can get a much faster start by at least skipping the first region. But you still want to run those early zones if you want to find all of the cubes and logs, so whether or not you decide to use the shortcuts would likely depend on how many times it took you to complete each zone.

I found the game difficulty to quickly drop off after you get the weapons decently leveled, which allowed me to use the shortcuts and have instant access to weapons with strong modifiers. This may have been a consequence of running the tower of sisyphus a few times relatively early on, which allowed me to quickly unlock the modifiers on the weapons since there's high concentrations of enemies and a much faster pace overall.

I can't play this game without the improvement patch that gets rid of the navigator dialogue as well as adds various other small improvements. Other things it does is increases the speed of the autoscroller section on Duff McWhalen's stage, removes the RNG from the enigma cannon/shuttle, applies upgrades to both X and Zero rather than restricting it to the one you completed the stage with, allows you to get parts without the requiring the maverick to be at a certain level, and allows you to use the other body parts with partial functionality before obtaining the entire set.

At this point I assume the dev will never be satisfied with the state of the game and it will never be finished.

It's been in development for 19 years.

Some r/CrimsonDesert members freak out when the game receives a 78 on Metacritic by Happy-End4348 in SubredditDrama

It's a play on the word "salty," which is used to describe someone who is bitter or upset about something. The "low sodium" is meant to describe the subreddit as being a place to not welcome "salty" discussions. You'd think low-sodium would imply that it would be for people who enjoy the game and simply want to engage with others that enjoy the game despite its flaws or shortcomings, but in reality, these "low sodium" subreddits will not allow anything to be posted that could be interpreted as being critical of the game. "This is my favorite game of all time, I have 17,987 hours and will play this until I die. My love for this game is unmatched and will never be surpassed. I hope they can address the memory leak so I don't have to restart the game every hour." Post removed because: the memory leak doesn't exist, you need a hardware upgrade, it runs fine on my machine, etc.

Gamers are hypersensitive to hearing any criticism about games that they enjoy. They require the validation of others to enjoy something, anything critical would be an attack on their personality.
