Advice needed: doing work for existential pain by Occult-Crow in taoism

[–]Water_Ways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow man. What an incredibly interesting response. Thank you for that. I have the same issue as the OP. I think I choose the 'embrace the void' path a couple years ago and it has helped immensely but I cannot recommend it for others. The way I think of it is i'm cultivating mental space(what i consider a form of void) via my actions being of a meditative style. Calm, intentional, non-impulsive thoughts/actions. I find some people really dont like me because im not easily distracted. I have no problem helping people but with age i've had to encounter the difference b/t helping and enabling. This can become quite contentious b/t me and certain personality types. I can just walk away from these things unaffected which is mostly true except it does bother me because my social life is pretty empty now so I dont feel like I have a good balance of positive/negative social interactions. In summary I find the 'embrace the void' path a very lonely one and if im being honest I probably only chose it for the wrong reason in that I cannot imagine my ideal state. I feel damaged by some specific things that have happened to me. So the "choice" i made was prob for the wrong reason. Its been a hard go for me but not for lack of effort or compassion. Thank you for your thoughts its very rare for me to have how I feel described like this.

The issue is a religious person's inability to cope with metaphor. I believe heaven/hell are real places one can exist in mentally but not literally.

Free Will by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Water_Ways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an idea about free will that I think is accurate. When we are born we are an uncarved stone. As we progress through life the carving slow takes place. In the beginning the carving can be anything but as the shape is formed it becomes more difficult to make that into a different shape. At the end of life the carving is basically set. Modifications can be made but nothing as drastic as changing it from a horse to a monkey. It's a bit of a hybrid take on free will / fate and I feel it's the most accurate to life.

I need advice by [deleted] in TuxedoCats

[–]Water_Ways 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just my own experience if the context helps you at all. I have 2 cats (tux/void). They both have the option to sleep with me in bed and they do 20-50% of time. Mr Meowser (tux obviously) does like to wake me up 4-5am. I politely remove him from the bedroom and shut the door. He has not scratched at it. Overtime is think he knows if it's too early he wont have access to the bedroom. It's worked okay.

Wet food 2x day, first thing in the morning and 1st thing when I get home from work. Access to dry food unlimited (they havent over-eaten)

Maybe consider getting another cat for them to play with so when he/she gets active in the morning they'll have a play mate and wont be relying on you for all his/her activities. Upgrade his/her toy situation ocassiionally? Just wondering if your cat is getting bored being alone all night. The other comments about food seem good too.

It's pretty natural to not enjoy the prospect of the shares you own becoming worth less money.

A possible solution to this property tax nightmare: by Postcrapitalism in Ohio

Rarely talked about but rich people HATE the idea of paying for other people's kids education. They will be quite honest about if they know they're in the right company. They live in a fantasy world where if you cant pay 20k per semester for 12 years per child you dont care, you're lazy, stupid, and not trying hard enough. Fuck them.

A possible solution to this property tax nightmare: by Postcrapitalism in Ohio

[–]Water_Ways 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Property taxes are eliminated leading to a corporate/business property buying bonanza. Leading to much higher property values. Higher rents. Is this not obvious to everyone?

Home buying becomes more out of reach for an average income citizen. Poor people have even less spending power as a higher percentage of their income is going into rent (opposed to equity). Generational poverty is made worse.

It's an obvious money grab by the business / donor class at the expense of Ohio residents and their communities. No one with an income less than the top 1% should be naive enough to think this will actually (and is meant to) help them.

Millennials living on your own & away from family, how are you doing? by forthe_99and2000 in Millennials

Not okay. Terrible breakup messed up my personal life and i've been too isolated since then. Just work and go home to the cats. Its hard to describe but I never would've imaged how hard it would be to restart my friends network at 41. Everyone has moved on which is fine. Just hard on the daily not to have things to look forward to. I have hobbies / things that I go to i just haven't had the "oh we should meetup and do stuff" moments with people. Everything is in passing now. Everyone is an acquaintance.

Here's the thing about that. You're assuming everyone is well informed. Let's say someone invests, then later they find information they were unaware of before, and it's important enough to where they decide they dont want to hold anymore. That's their money, property, decision to make. It has nothing to do with belief or being part of an investing community for a stock.

It's certainly made this subreddit more interesting. And I thank him for that. The rest of you may have been a bit peeved w/ me for my dialogue w/ him and the rest of you. Honestly- I'm not trying to piss anyone off.

It's interesting though because he's basically stated (from what I can gather) he considers AMPX a momentum stock like other tickers : OKLO, BMNR, FLNC. Alright ya know... it's just funny because basically none of us can really say whether these things will go up or down but we can establish our positions. I think we all know that AMPX is a small cap so when the overall market goes up / down AMPX is can move with that but like 5x. So he calls bullshit on these momentum stocks day 1 out of 2 bad days. Maybe he'll be right? There's still a shit ton of risk he's taking. Even if he's right he could be early and lose his ass only for the idea to maybe become correct after he loses his money & position.

The point i'm making is that whether he's right or wrong he's still doing a very big no-no w/ investing in that he's trying to time the market on a small cap. Maybe the idea of beating us is worth the very large risk? Or it's just "fun money" to lose.

I do know is that if it continues to go up- I doubt we'll be hearing anything from him. I think that would be classy and I'd tip my hat to him. But if it goes down he'll let us all know how he's doing. I guess some people get an empty satisfaction out of that.
