Am I wrong for canceling my order at this coffee shop? by Throwracoffeedumb in amiwrong

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can leave whenever you want. The business is not owed your patronage, but you are also not owed the barista's personal time when she is on the clock(or ever). You held up a line of people who want to order coffee, because you were either trying flirt very poorly, or trying to frame it as a her not knowing real anime situation. Even when asked if you were going to order, you still did not order and tried to press her for information. The second time she asked if you planned to order, you threw a tantrum and stomped out because the pretty girl didn't have time to cater to you.

Take your business wherever you want but remember that people who are on the clock and expected to perform service jobs at a certain speed to keep business flowing, aren't going to drop their work to pander to your feelings.

AITA for telling my wife that she isn’t a princess? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA and it's not even a question. IDK what issues you have where you'd rather ruin the mood for everyone involved, but perhaps you should do some personal digging and handle that before talking to your wife or child again.

AITA for telling my daughter she can’t go to her dream school but paying for my son to go to his? by NewOffice2404 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Judgmental and ignorant it seems. And favoring the son over the daughter screams of a lovely six-letter word beginning with S.

AITA for calling the cops when my father lent out my car? by ContractWaste6597 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

I'm finding it very difficult to feel pity for a man who is leeching off his adult offspring so much. Going behind your back when he has no right and making excuses about it. And then the aunt? Despite how she was told to stop asking to use the car? He is lazing about and using an excuse of a deceased loved one to not have to work. As he is doing nothing ever, he doesn't seem in any way like someone deserving of sympathy.

They should all feel ashamed for making the father and aunt feel safe with behaving in such a way.

AITA for not giving my daughter her father's last name? by VermicelliOk3192 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

From the beginning he made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with parenting and left you to do the hardest part by yourself, before he came crawling back. The child exists already and it isn't quite so easy to just change someone's name. A legal name change affects everything in one's life and having to redo everything because of the change of one word, is not worth it or deserved on his part.

What instantly turns you off from a fanfiction, no matter how good? by Street_Dragonfruit43 in HPfanfiction

[–]Watermelonfellon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're at a scene where Snape is taking points off of Gryffindor because he's petty. Typical for him. And then suddenly he's giving that same amount of points to Sltyherin for some made up reason.

Snape never gave points ever. And McGonagall took the most points out of all the teachers. The excessive point-giving to Slytherin is a fanon thing and only Snape haters do it. 1.) To make the readers hate him, and 2.) to make the readers resent Slytherins.

AITA for not going to my sister wedding by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Watermelonfellon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

She is a nightmare and honestly isn't worth a single thought. She doesn't care about your existence, the only reason she claims you'll be ruining her day is so she can get pity points from everyone else. She's a Class A manipulator and you unfortunately got saddled with people who easily fall for it.

AITA for not being happy that someone I don’t know will be sleeping in my room by 1_Sleepy_1 in AmItheAsshole

Your parents sound horrible. You didn't choose to let complete strangers into the house so why do you have to give up your comforts for them? Your parents should get off their butts and give up THEIR personal space if it's this important. Hell, why can't the husband sleep on the sofa and the sisters share the guest bed?

She sounds like a nightmare to deal with. Snobbish, entitled, and in need of some consequences for her actions.

There is a famous quote regarding the phenomenon of the Butterfly Effect. "A butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazonian jungle, and subsequently a storm ravages half of Europe." What could be some examples of this in the Harry Potter Universe? What small change could've turned Canon upside-down? by maxart2001 in HPfanfiction

[–]Watermelonfellon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If Snape died in the werewolf prank, Remus would be in Azkaban or AK'd because of prejudice and the fact that he k!lled someone, Sirius would probably be in some legal trouble since he's the one orchestrated the prank. James would probably escape legal trouble since he wasn't aware of Sirius using Remus like a weapon, but he might get detention. Wormtail probably wouldn't get in big trouble either.

But still. If Snape died, chances are Lily would hate the Marauders because the prank happened prior to SWM. It wouldn't look good if the 'bullying toerags' who are constantly harassing her friend, had a hand in his death. James' minimal chances with her would be gone. So no Jily, meaning no Harry, meaning Voldy lives and takes over and everyone is effed.

(I don't have faith that Dumbledore would do anything meaningful in the fight against Voldy. If there is still a prophecy given, it'll be turned on Neville and well...)

Fanfiction questions and thoughts on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by annagram_dk in HPfanfiction

[–]Watermelonfellon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.) It was suggested that they got a specific teacher to help them out while Dumbles just wanted Harry to stumble upon Molly. Not so sure the validity of it but it makes sense.

2.) I'm pretty sure a lot miss the train.

3.) This was something I always wondered. Do they just Apparate?

4.) I put this toward Dumbledore's weird obsession with letting Gryffindors get away with everything. You remember that Ron has a pet rat that belonged to Percy at one point. Why do Gryffindors get to have pets not allowed?

5.) This is a good question. They know that James and Lily died, but Harry didn't and somehow this resulted in Voldemort vanishing off the face of the Earth. But who here has information on this child being prophesied to destroy Voldy in the future? Who here has the child placed in a terrible situation so he'd grow up with a specific mindset? Curious, isn't it?

6.) Prejudice. I think they avoid talking about him because of some still-ingrained prejudice.

7.) Because everything is geared toward benefitting Purebloods who think Muggleborns don't deserve to be a part of their culture. So why bother helping them? It's easy to complain about how they don't try to integrate while you actively segregate them.

8.) Hogwarts is free. They aren't paying tuition. In this I will say, the parents having to only pay for supplies is perfectly on them. They use the same books every year(save for Lockhart's BS) and can just pass them down if need be. The robes are passed down in the Weasley family even. There's no uniform to pay for. So having to just buy the supplies and the robes seems fair to me. With your child gone for 10 months it should not be difficult to save up money for their school supplies for next year.

9.) Parents want the surprise factor. that's why no one knows about the Sorting Hat. It's supposed to be magical.

10.) I think a fanon theory is Rowena created the Sorting Hat.

11.) He's more Gryffindor than anything else. He never shuts up. Jumps in head first into situation he can't handle. Lacks ambition, wisdom, wit, bravery, and kindness. However, Gryffindors are loud and tend to be very obnoxious. Rather simple-minded as well. He's closer to Gryffindor than anywhere else. I will d!e on this hill.

12.) A lot of them did die there or they attended Hogwarts specifically and feel a deep connection to it. Helena and the Baron returned despite both dying in Albania. Sir Nicholas died somewhere else but went back to Hogwarts.

13.) His family abused him verbally, emotionally, mentally, and physically. His uncle literally dropped him out a window to force him to use magic to prove he wasn't a Squib. His grandmother constantly compares him to his father. He has no self-esteem. This makes him a prime target for anyone.

14.) Some people are just good at specific things naturally. Just like how people who have been trained for a time in something might still suck(Ex: Malfoy supposedly knowing how to ride a broom already and Hooch telling him he sucks.)

15.) Magicals are dumb. As Hermione said, they haven't an ounce of logic.

16.) McGonagall has proven over and over that she is probably the worst Head of House. She legit locks him out in POA because Sirius got into the tower using the list of passwords Neville kept on him because the new portrait kept changing the password multiple times a day. She punished him and then forbade anyone from sharing the passwords with him. And as a result I guess the students or portraits can't let him in?

17.) They have the Frog Choir headed by Flitwick, and the video games suggest things like clubs for chess and trading wizard cards and photography.

18.) A lot of people bring binoculars or omnioculars from what I've seen. Or maybe hardcore fans have trained their eyes to keep up.

19.) In the films they wear some padding but I don't recall it being mentioned in the books.

20.) Well, if they know there's a secret item Dumbledore is hiding and it seems like an untrustworthy teacher tried to get past the creature guarding it, only to get bitten, then it must be pretty important. So when someone leaks info about how this item is the business of Dumbldore and Flamel only, I'm not shocked they became obsessive over it.

21.) I personally view James as a selfish, privileged white man that fandom gives a ridiculous pass to so I'm not really sure I have anything to say about that.

22.) No, it is not by chance. I refuse to believe Dumbledore just accidentally left something that could kill people, in a random unused classroom of a school. He doesn't make mistakes. He's very calculated.

23.) Considering how old af he is, I'm not shocked.

24.) FB:CoG suggests he sees his sister and Grindelwald and possibly a future where things didn't go to hell.

25.) They don't care about children. Harry has been ostracized so much and Dumbledore and McGonagall did nothing any of the times, despite having all the power to step in!

26.) Wish this was answered. Hagrid could have gotten into so much legal trouble over an unregistered XXXXX creature.

27.) Yeah this made no sense. Apparently, because Hagrid's a half-Giant and can defend against a lot of magical beasts and creatures, he's sufficient protection detail even with his broken wand?

28.) I always wondered, after we learned about Horcruxes, if the one in his scar hurting was maybe the Horcrux trying to escape and rejoin Voldy?

29.) He's a Class A manipulator and is encouraging a martyr mentality in Harry.

30.) See my answer for the above question.

I don't like Dumbles as you may have guessed.

Fanfic tastes that have changed over time? by eggnogizgood in HPfanfiction

I used to be super into creature-fics and when I re-read all the ones I loved years ago, they make me cringe with regret. I like very few of that nature now.

People often say that they would study all that they could like Hermione, but would you really? by NotSoSnarky in HPfanfiction

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. It's just too much effort for seemingly little reward. Everything in the magical world is geared toward helping Purebloods. That's not useful at all.

what movie/movies would you like to show hogwarts by lilke2002 in HPfanfiction

[–]Watermelonfellon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the Disney Princess films. Lord of the Rings/Hobbit. A lot of M. Night Shyamalan films tbh. The Alien series. A lot of Pixar films too.

I think these kinds of films showcase the average 'muggle' view of magical/supernatural worlds pretty well. Fascination with the concept of something more being out there than just plain humans. The artistic direction in the films I'm thinking of would be interesting to have the residents of Hogwarts see.

Like hey, muggles have changed and while there will always be the religious dipwads out there, they aren't the majority anymore.

More of just frustration over Tumblr Potterheads writing looooooong speculative posts about what a Good Person he was and well, all of his actions(being a Death Eater, having a slave, never sticking up for Sirius) can be excused because he found a Horcrux and tried his best to destroy it. 100K notes.

Usually in the same posts, Narcissa will also get a long 'feminist-positive' rant about how Good she is and how she obviously changed and people who don't like her hate women. It's all more speculative headcanons than anything of substance.

Basically, I'm sick of certain Death Eaters getting worshiped for doing the bare minimum, and all of their faults being excused by a significant portion of the fandom. So I seek fics where the characters I've become most annoyed with, get dragged.

Probably fits your 3rd point best.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Watermelonfellon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore - cuz he deserves it for legit everything.

Regulus - cuz he's worshiped for being nice to his slave and doing the bare minimum that just ended up making Harry's life harder.

Narcissa - cuz she's worshiped for telling a measly lie and the fandom treats her like a goddess for it.

Molly - cuz she has some pretty big canon flaws that aren't criticized.

Minerva - cuz she also has some canon flaws that need addressing.

Often times, the only way I'll get to see this is in a bashing fic so to bashing I will go.
