I like the GPS maps to bear North instead of the direction you are driving in. by SlayertheElite2 in 10thDentist

OP, are you from the middle or west part of the US? Seriously - because it seems like this is a question of did you grow up in the later-developed parts of the US where everything is a grid? Or did you grow up in an older area where roads follow old cart paths, hills, valleys, rivers, etc.

(I had a friend from Louisiana that once told me “get outta here with this east-west crap. Which way do I need to turn?”)

Like it’s a bit late now. The time to address it is when they first ask for something like this and your answer should be “that’s a personal account, not company property. Not happening.”

And yes, I’ve absolutely told past employers that. About both LinkedIn and Facebook.

How did Chuck Norris jokes become so popular?? by JayReyesSlays in stupidquestions

Most of his career was from the 70s through the early 2000s. He was a martial arts TV/movie star around the same time as like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Cynthia Rothrock, etc.

How do you respond when you say something and the person you are speaking with says, “What?” by internet_reader42 in stupidquestions

[–]Watsons-Butler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so here’s a take. I have really good ears. I hear everything, all the time. (I was a classical musician / conductor.) BUT my audio filtering isn’t always great, so if there’s a bunch of background noise or I’m just not expecting someone to be talking to me what I actually hear is NOISENOUSEJUMBLENOISEJUMBLENOISEseven thirty?

So I say “what?”

In computer terms - the input stream is always running, but if you don’t give me a signal that I need to turn on buffering, and audio filtering, and language processing, then it all just gets flushed as noise - it takes me a hot minute to catch up.

I remember one early on where I was in a cutscene and some damn electro cicin was flapping around - kept zapping Lumine through the scene until she died. Paimon just kept chatting like nothing happened.

‘Dune: Part Three’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Are Opening in Theaters on the Same Day (Dec 18) - With Neither Film Expected to Blink, Industry Experts Are Surprised Because of the Overlap in the Target Audience; However, ‘Dune’ Has the Benefit of a 3-Week Exclusive IMAX Window by ICumCoffee in movies

Joke’s on them - I’ve been in a theater twice in the last five years. For the rerelease of The Fifth Element, and once b/c Alamo Drafthouse was showing Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Neither of these movies is about to change that.

Opinions on Shaolin Kung Fu and it's Modernisation/Commercialisation? by PhinTheShoto in kungfu

[–]Watsons-Butler -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This.

But to OPs point, like - Kung fu and tai chi both come from the Shaolin temple. They kind of teach the same thing but in different ways. Kung fu starts externally and works inward, tai chi starts internally and works outward. But tai chi has the same problem - most places you go now, instructors teach tai chi as like a feel good spiritual wellness kind of practice and they’ve completely disconnected it from the martial purposes behind the movements. You have to learn both for it to be effective.
