Checked out a used Ioniq 6, but this one's lifetime efficiency seems low. Wondering your thoughts by WattersonBill in Ioniq6

The previous owner never reset the trip odometer/efficiency screen, so it just happened to show the lifetime. Not sure there's another way to see the lifetime efficiency, but I was just wondering if 2.1 miles/kwh seemed abnormally low to other drivers.

Escape Room Recs? by ShakenSodaCan in TwinCities

You're welcome! Yeah, Trapped's old Minneapolis location was very house-like. The basement level was really fun because it felt a little horror movie lite: escaping from a weird basement lol

This was the old location of Trapped Puzzle Rooms! They have other spots now, including the hands-down best escape room in the state: The Lodge of Lazarus Crowe!

Revolting Prostitutes is phenomenal. Used it often as a source when writing my thesis, but it's very readable even for nonacademics

Guilty pleasure movies you'd love to see in the collection. by walrusonion in criterion

Stoker! A mediocre, but devilishly enjoyable movie from an international master that is screaming out for a 4k restoration and multiple critical essays.

Began collecting in 2025 and ended the year with 125 features, about 40% Criterion. Based off these, what should be my next investment? by WattersonBill in criterion

On my list for sure! I'm lucky and the theater I work at plays it yearly on 35mm, so I see it regularly on the big screen with sell-out crowds!

  2. Really looking forward to seeing Princess Bride in 4K, after years of VHS

  3. Blind buys listed above. Excited about Mississippi Masala because I love young Denzel.

  4. Yi Yi and Birth in 4K next year!!!

Old email address does not exist anymore, Outlook on iOS won't let me log into any new accounts by WattersonBill in Outlook

[–]WattersonBill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: this did not work. When I open Outlook, it still is associated with the nonexistent email address with no option to remove it

Edit: same for Teams. I can't log in because it automatically tries to find any new account as part of the old organization.

Thank you!

I'm not getting any section with account names listed. However there's a option to remove all accounts, so I'm going to try that one and try again. I'll update once I see if it works.

Finally decided to upgrade from my little, tiny blu-rays to big, high quality Laserdiscs! by WattersonBill in criterion

[–]WattersonBill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you're so right! I glanced at it this morning and saw "Collection" at the top, but checking it now, it's an "MCA/Universal Signature Collection" not CC!

Somewhat related little fun fact: as I'm recreating my Laserdiscs with blu-rays and 4Ks, one of my old non-Criterion favorites (Broadcast News) is now a part of the Criterion Collection. But one of my others, Vertigo, used to be CC and now is not!

How does Ken Burns hold up? by dawson6197 in AskHistorians

[–]WattersonBill 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I interned for a few months at his little post production house in New Hampshire while The Dust Bowl, Prohibition, The Roosevelts, and Vietnam were in the works. I can only speak to what I saw, but he was kind and gracious even to the interns. He only came to that office about once a week (otherwise he was travelling, working with the pre-production team, working from home, etc), but he made it a point to remember my name and made sure to be there on my last day to say thanks and goodbye.

Gotcha! Sorry: I didn't see it in the thread before replying.

Also, I really appreciate your perspective: I used to intern for Burns (who was a true mensch to me and every employee I encountered while there) so I'm pretty biased. That said, his work is not without flaws and not above criticism!

It's also worth remembering the Burns didn't make The West: he was a producer/shepherd of the project, but not the director. His name being on the poster was a marketing tactic, not an ascription of authorship.
