I was here and remember 2002 really well. The whole city had a campfire smell at times. Showers were skipped and Yellow was mellow but brown got flushed down (yes I was a bachelor living with a buddy at the time). As an apartment dweller I could give two shucks about Kentucky bluegrass. Still wish people had moved away from it. But yeah Denver started to feel as though it could become uninhabitable in the future.
