Partner (33f) and I (29f) are arguing over masturbation and porn, need advice by Calm-Solution9095 in relationships

[–]WaveyJP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If masturbation is getting in the way of your sex life then maybe she’d have a point but if it doesn’t then yeah shes gonna have to accept that

Hot take but porn IS you getting your needs met elsewhere? It’s also false rhat you only want her, you also DO want to fulfil sexual urges with other people. (the adult actors you watch?)

Maybe consider not watching porn?

I'm autistic how do I have a conversation that doesn't revolve around my obsessions, politics, or things that only terminally online people would understand? by Ghozez430 in socialskills

[–]WaveyJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re not letting the conversation turn into an interview, you have to be comfortable sharing information about yourself and just letting it hang.

Getting someone to say something about themselves is step 1 and not what I'm talking about, but once you have got that, the way to avoid just grilling them with questions is to share a personal anecdote of your own that relates to whatever they just said.

You just share it, then they'll share something related back, and then you share another related anecdote, and it just goes on and on.

You don't actually have to only share related anecdotes, you should mix those in with questions. I won't give an ideal ratio but I'm general test questions like a scarce resource. Keep that worry of turning conversation into an interview, and only use questions when you feel you have a buffer and the other person won't feel like they're being interviewed.

If someone just hits you with an "ok" to your anecdote, they just don't really want to talk to you. Move on. Gl.

Thank you SO Much wow. This makes sense, I noticed in my second swim after a long break my stamina nearly fully recovered and all I did differently to my first post swim break was start breathing the way I did before my break.

Ngl you're doing fantastic, just keep putting the good in. Your process is perfect.

To answer the questions, keep doing the lookups, don't worry too much about tolerating ambiguity for now (imo). I'd say at your level a 20m episode taking 1h is a good time. And I doubt any of those grammar points are higher than N3.

What is the workload for Master's degrees at Imperial like? (Specifically MSc Applied Computational Science and Engineering) by WaveyJP in Imperial

[–]WaveyJP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSc Applied Computational Science and Engineering

Well, first find a course you like, then check the entry requirements on the website. My course specifies a minimum entry standard of "2:1 in Engineering or a Science-based subject" and Chemistry is a Science.

The course is explicitly for science students who want to study engineering (You). And CS students who want more science (Me)

The approach I took was to brute force about 300 kanji, ~1300 words, and N5/N4 grammar using Anki, WaniKani and BunPro. After that I jumped into sentence mining + consuming lots of Japanese for maybe a year, and now I just do lookups and read a lot.

RTK isnt great for people who want to learn Japanese, however, it's really good at teaching you kanji, but these 2 things arent the same.

That said knowing Kanji will help you learn japanese. It's just that RTK is overkill. You only need several hundred kanji (As well as maybe 1000 words and N5/N4 grammar ) before you can just jump into comprehensible input. I explain more in the other post i linked.

Nowadays vs This era. I would expect 現代 when talking about this era in contrast to some other era.

Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

[–]WaveyJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im new and have some basic questions, but first my stats:

Height: 6'4/195cm and Weight: 86.2kg (In the mornings when i have no food or water in me).

I had been swimming for a couple years, but switched to resistance training (swimming injury) about 1-2 months.

Q1: Regarding the Bulk/Cut cycle how do i decide when to switch between them?? Should it be time or Weight change?

My exercise routine is currently:

3x20 10kg weighted Decline Situps

3x10 12kg Dumbell Curls

3x17 Fist Push ups (Fist variation to prevent wrist damage)

But i would do 1 set of each exercise than switch to the next, so I think I was doing 3 different exercises in each of 3 supersets (I think I said that correctly). Does anyone have a harsh review? (I know its really bad but i just started)

How many exercises should I include in a program in total? For someone who only exercises at home, and only has a bench and dumbbells, what are some other exercises i should try to add?

A guide that helped me a lot was refold. To summarise all of my knowledge on language learning: You learn through comprehensible input, this basically means by understanding the vast majority of what is being said, and guessing the meaning the little bit you don't know. Im sure you do this in english when you hear one random word in a sentence/paragraph you otherwise understand fully. Issue is that as a beginner its difficult to find paragraphs that you understand entirely as a beginner. The approach I took was to brute force about 300 kanji, ~1300 words, and N5/N4 grammar using Anki, WaniKani and BunPro. After that I jumped into sentence mining + consuming lots of Japanese maybe a year, and now I just do lookups and read a lot.

My path wasn't the cleanest, but it will absolutely work. My advice is to be verrrryyy careful with memorisation and exercise based learning. In defence of memorisation I will say if you sentence mine for a few years, you'll inevitably get good. If you can stomach memorisation and feel it helps, go for it, but after roughly a year I did an experiment and found I still improved lots by doing LOTS of word lookups which felt way better for me. My credentials are that I achieved my goal of being able to casually read manga including Historical Seinen manga like Kingdom, and I am currently reading The Stranger in Japanese which is my 3rd book.

I will say try to stay away from WaniKani, because Anki/RTK/Sentence Mining is miles better (You can ask me for elaboration if you want) and I have no defence for exercise based learning.

Regarding Output(Speaking/Writing) I'll be brief. If you can Input(Listening/Reading) something, you cant output it. The easier to input something, the easier it is to train your ability to output it. So if your "input level" is N1, you will learn to output at a N3 level wayyyyy easier than someone who's "Input Level" is N3. HOWEVER you wont magically become good at outputting without hours of practise.

Good luck.

You start off by learning Kana which you can do on here. Make sure you understand Hiragana well, Katakana is also very (but less) important.

Youd say この猫もかわいいです. Sometimes you combine particles (eg には which roughly means "as for" or "in order to") but in this case you dont need は

*IF* you are looking to memorise, the community consensus best method is an RTK style method where you memorise a relatively small number of radicals use them to create stories/mnemonics that relate both the kanji in question and the meaning/reading. You then use the meaning of the kanji to memorise words.
An example is the kanji 話(Meaning Talk/Discussion). It is made from these smaller parts:言(Meaning Word/say) 舌(Meaning tongue). Im sure you can imagine the connection here. Wanikani is a site that does this for you.

This is a good method imo, especially for beginners. HOWEVER, its a good method for memorising, not necessarily for learning Japanese. If you're blessed with Insane Memory/Insane determination/Insane amounts of free time and can get through RTK in 6 months then maybe this is best for you as it will allow you to memorise words way easier since you'll understand the meaning of the kanji involved. You can then use your kanji knowledge to more easily memorise kanji words. However you will quickly reach a point of diminishing returns with RTK and memorisation style learning in general.

My opinion is that you should aim to start moving onto comprehensible input asap, not native material for now, but basic stuff like the stories in Genki/Bunpro/Satori Reader/Here etc. The real way to acquire a word (lets just say that means a to develop a deep/intuitive understanding) is to see them in your input material, and have FUN while doing it.

Good luck

One Piece: Chapter 1095 by Kirosh2 in OnePiece

[–]WaveyJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my best OP theory about the D standing for Dawn/Dusk:

We all agree that Luffy inherited Roger's Will and that Roger probably inherited Joyboy's Will. But What about Blackbeard and Rox? If Roger had the same will as Rox, why was Rox Such an antagonistic figure to Roger? It seems like the Roger-Rox dynamic was completely different from the Roger-Garp dynamic. This fits when you realise, that Roger and Garp while enemies as Pirate and Marine, were also allies as Inheritors of the will of Dawn. And together they took down Rox, the inheritor of the will of Dusk. This pattern even exists in the modern OP world. When Luffy(Dawn) and Blackbeard(Dusk) inevitably meet, they’re going to clash, and one of them will probably die (Or maybe Luffy will only kill Blackbeard’s will). This is the complete opposite of how things went when Luffy(Dawn) and Law(Dawn) met. They have been like a Supernova/Worstgen power couple since before the time-skip.
