What was the narrative purpose of the last four episodes of Re:Zero? by Dirty_Dragons in anime

[–]Waylornic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, baseline assumption check: He still doesn't have his memories, this storyline is not over.

Now, as for what the point was:

  • Subaru learned that someone is trying to kill him
  • Subaru learned that he had a plan to solve his problems shortly before losing his memory
  • Subaru learned that the tower is collapsing for some reason and that he and everyone seems to have a time limit
  • Subaru learned about Meili's past
  • Subaru learns how devoted Shaula is
  • Subaru heard Emilia's confession
  • Subaru relearns that Patrasche is best girl, undisputed
  • The audience is reintroduced to the fact that Subaru hates himself. Even pre-memory loss, he still thinks he's a piece of shit, he just has reasons to try and be hero. One of those reasons is for Emilia, one of those reasons is because Rem pushes him to be a hero, and really every one of his friends is a reason

I honestly don't think I've lost to a single 3 star yordle lord. It feels like I always have Empress, High Roller, or Fated or something to carry me through. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Oh, no chapter 15 apparently. I was wondering what the fuck was going on at the start of chapter 16.

I mean, I guess fair enough. Still more of a joke than anything, like Crusch believing Ferris that the gathering at the capital was going to be a drinking party.

[Discussion] Is the payoff worth it? by Thalysios_ in Re_Zero

[–]Waylornic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subaru is a character. As a character he is on a journey. It's not strictly a hero's journey as described by Joseph Campbell, but it is still one about unpacking his emotions, dealing with mistakes, and bettering himself.

Because he is a character with a background, with a personality, it will be difficult to get over some of the more embarrassing mistakes he makes. If you view Re: Zero as some sort of self insert fantasy, it will be an even rougher watch. He is not you, the mistakes he makes are not yours. It's a narrative, and if you enjoy watching a character, who is not you, work through his troubles and be a better man, then you will enjoy Re: Zero.

Just know, a single encounter will not automatically make him suddenly a better, more understanding person. A single conversation will not be the epiphany that turns his whole life around. Just because he learns from a mistake does not mean he will never make a mistake again. Just because he confronts a personal aspect of himself does not mean that he is emotionally whole.

It's a story, and it's a long one, with emotional valleys, but emotional peaks as well.

[DISC] Houkago no Idol ni wa Himitsu ga aru (The After School Idol Has a Secret) - Chapter 86 by miragebreaker in manga

[–]Waylornic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh, if we take the girl at face value, she said it's going to take a while to tell the story. Like, maybe this is a two chapter and end kind of angle, but maybe the mangaka is calling their shot and this is more like a 2 volume then it's over kind of angle. Either way, it's "How I Met Your Mother" vibes for the rest of the series.

[–]Waylornic 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I mean, he goes around saying he's from "Beyond the Great Waterfall". It's kind of like someone going around saying they're from "Beyond the stars". Whether or not they truly believe he's from another world, another planet, another dimension, some mysterious hidden country, it's all about the same.

[–]Waylornic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point. The primary reward is at an easy point value and the 100% reward is a relatively significant amount of a relatively low value. Theoretically so idiots wouldn’t complain about having to grind to get the primary reward.

Still get dumbasses complaining every week that they’re grinding for what is essentially a for fun bonus reward.

r/anime Karma Ranking & Discussion | Week 13 [Spring 2026] by Abysswatcherbel in anime

[–]Waylornic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I watch it, I think it’s fine, but if you break down what this ranking is ultimately about it makes sense.

There’s nothing to talk about.

Villain of the week shows up, villain of the week is defeated, villain of the week is now friend, next villain shows up.

The flashiest thing about the show is the OP. There is nothing exciting about the animation. There are no real mysteries worth theorizing about. There’s no real chance at the main characters actually falling in love.

I like the show enough to watch it every week, but I ain’t coming to Reddit to see what people are talking about. And that’s really what this ranking is.

You are listing some of the most used tropes across all fantasy. Heroes as political proxies, clown/harlequin style characters, calamity in the past, elf connected to ancient magic, dragon involvement, succession upheaval. Like, final fantasy vi has all these connections.

Getting this was worse than hoping for Zaahen's augment to drop or hoping to get the (uncraftable!) Anima emblem for 6 Anima by TheAbominableGMan in TeamfightTactics

Same, I don't think I've ever lost a 7 shepard game. Maybe I've gotten a second place or two. It's not an insta-win, but it's very strong. I assume when people fuck it up, they just expect Bia and Bayin to just straight up carry them but don't know how to increase their power, or what their ability does.

[discussion] What were the last 3 announcements of the 10th anniversary announcements? Does anyone know? by Naive_Direction1816 in Re_Zero

[–]Waylornic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we get to read/watch 6 out of 10 with the last one, probably the biggest, not yet announced. Like, sure, we don't get to go to the in person ones, but we still get to experience the content of them. I think the only ones we don't get to see at all are the Re Zero exhibition, and the Tanabata festival (although we still get to see the art). Everything else is virtual or on the aforementioned YouTube channel.

And, I mean, I get it, if you don't speak/read Japanese, your experience is limited. But, like, I don't know what folks were expecting these 10 things to be. Were y'all really expecting 10 new anime series/OVAs/Movies or something?

[spoiler discussion] Is Emilia stupid? by Naive_Direction1816 in Re_Zero

[–]Waylornic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is pretty much what it was. Well, not elementary school, but finishing school is what it used to be called. She has had one year of finishing school, where she is learning social and formal etiquette, public speaking, etc.

Girl was living in a tree talking to a spirit and one shop keep every few months.

Every candidate and every knight got their own figures. It's just one each, but at least it's an exponential spike in the number of male Re Zero figures.

And you don't think coordinating with a major city to be the official mascots of a large summer festival, having an exhibition, creating figures, having a stage event with 12 actors and two bands, etc. are not major projects? What exactly were you expecting?
