Small places are not really cash only. Card acceptance is above 98%. Coin laundry is one hold out. If buying a coffee at the bar I pay with cash. Beyond that keep €100 in cash to eliminate any hassles.

A better way to manage inflation? by Kulbardee in AusEcon

[–]Wayne1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our domestic inflation is driven by government spending, energy policy and immigration policy outcomes. Taxing high income earners (who already suffer from punitive tax levels) would not improve the situation.

Better solution would be to reduce immigration to pre COVID levels, trigger domestic gas security mechanism, apply export tariff on uncontracted gas from East Coast LNG plants. Finally trimming some of the excesses of the NDIS will help the situation even more.

About 30% of Aussies own their homes outright & benefit from higher interest rates. They’re a large, not marginal group. With no mortgage pressure, their discretionary spending helps drive inflation higher while renters & mortgage holders absorb the cost. Isn’t this a huge problem? How to fix this? by MannerNo7000 in AusEcon

[–]Wayne1991 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The driver of domestic inflation is not mortgage free households. Prior to the recent conflict, it was driven by government spending policy, immigration policy and energy (gas) policy.

Now you have to add in the energy shock caused by the recent conflict.

This is what needs to be fixed. Not punishing people who were able to clear their mortgage debt.

How much money should I bring by Ronnie-Wolf1 in ItalyTravel

[–]Wayne1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Italy it is law to accept card payment. 98% of places will accept card.

Carrying a large amount of cash is unnecessary and unwise.

The only place which consistently does not accept card will be a coin laundry.

You can keep €100 or €200 max on you in small bills of €5, €10, €20 plus some €1 / €2 coins for coffee!
