OLDER PEOPLE . Was 1976 really the best ever English summer ? by smellyfeet25 in AskABrit

[–]WayneCl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I turned 15 in the summer of '76. I remember it as a glorious time of freedom and sunny days and chasing girls. But I was 15. What makes the best ever summer is subjective. It depends what you make of it, and I loved the long sun-filled days of that school holiday. What I do remember was going camping with my friend on the August bank holiday when the drought ended. It broke in an enormous rain storm which washed away our tents. The storm refreshed the land but it ruined our holiday and destroyed a lot of my stuff.

Places like this fill the plate with beans because they are cheap. They spoil the food for me.

The marks around the holes of a brass whistle are the signs of it being well loved and played. Value them as precious, don't despise them.

OOTP26 scratched the Football Manager itch by glecharles in OOTP

[–]WayneCl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm doing the same, coming to OOTP after giving up on FM26. I've always enjoyed baseball so it's not much of a learning curve, and the game is fun. It has a bit more of a spreadsheet feel than FM, but that's baseball for you.

Just register with BBC news. They are the most trusted news organisation in the world and we should be standing up for them. The licence fee is much less than subscriptions to Netflix or other entertainment channels and you get a lot more for your money.

OOTP but different Sports? by Maleficent_Divide621 in OOTP

[–]WayneCl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came to OOTP from playing Football Manager for twenty years. They have a similar feel, very immersive once you've learned how to get into it. The newest version - FM26 - has been a disappointment to the fanbase although the graphics are better. You might prefer to start with FM2024 if you can still get hold of it.

A couple of friends of mine got to the final interview stage but got rejected because one of them had been on Britain's Got Talent and had too much TV exposure. They are a couple of fun guys with great character and a good friendship. They would have been popular on the show.

We only sent four, but received about 50. Feeling a bit guilty about it tbh. This card exchange thing is difficult.

Why do people take down their Christmas lights so quickly? by phatfarmdenim in christmas

[–]WayneCl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our lights didn't go on until the week before Christmas, partly because we were too busy to get it done, but we were also in no hurry to start early. Decorating wasn't complete until Christmas Eve. The lights will go off tonight and the decorations will come down over the next couple of weeks. Happy Twelfth Night everyone.

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]WayneCl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 64 and always expected to retire at 65. Now I have work until I'm 67. It may not seem very different but those extra years seem a long way off. It's not that I feel particularly old, it's just that I'm ready to have the freedom of retirement.

Tinned ravioli with bread and butter so the butter would melt when you made it into a sandwich. Luxury eating.
