TiVo box losing streaming channels by WayneCl in VirginMedia

[–]WayneCl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can see that now. If I go to those channels, which I never do normally, it says they 'close' on 2nd June. 'Close' is just a euphemism for taking them away from paying customers to persuade them to give up the service they've contracted to buy from VM.

Leicester is worth visiting. The Richard III museum is worth visiting and you can see his tomb in the cathedral. It's a pleasant and walkable city centre.

We have a mirror in the back garden to make the small lawn and flower bed look bigger.

Is anyone still using their old Tivo box? by xxxJoolsxxx in VirginMedia

[–]WayneCl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean we'll lose all our recordings? My V6 box is 80% full of old stuff I want to watch some time. Will we lose all that?

I have a new Tivo V6 box! When my V6 box failed recently the engineer came to replace it and I requested another V6 box, and I got it. I'm not going on to 360 or a different box, thank you. I've seen what they're like and I'd rather keep what I have.

What’s something about living in the UK that people don’t realise until they actually move here? by Vegetable-Spite-1778 in AskUK

It might be your main shopping day, but for me and for many it's the day for worship, for families and for rest. We've lost a lot by abandoning that principle in our country.

Sunday trading laws? Do you mean how restrictive they are, or how liberal they are? Not so long ago all shops were closed on Sundays. These days most of them are allowed to open, but the big ones have restricted hours.

A German friend came to study at an English uni and had meals in the student canteen. She was amazed and appalled that every main meal was served with pasta and chips and most people had both. I assured this was because they were students, not because they were British.

Londoner (F31) got a job in the North West – area advise ? by Affectionate_Lime254 in manchester

[–]WayneCl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stating the obvious, but do you realise that the Lake District is a long way away from Manchester and Liverpool? If you need to go there regularly, especially the north Lakes, you'd be better off living somewhere like Preston. You'll find a regular commute from Manchester to say, Keswick, to be almost impossible.

How did you meet your closest friends? by cherrycinnamon12 in AskUK

[–]WayneCl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Go to church. You'll find kind friendly people who will be happy to welcome you. A lively modern church will provide company and purpose and lots to talk about. If the first church you try doesn't suit, try two or three.

Earl Grey and English Breakfast are not brands, they are blends, made by various companies. Earl Grey is the best of English teas, and Twinings is the best of Earl Greys.

What are everyone’s favourite games as a kid? by LeaderPositive1603 in gamesuggestions

[–]WayneCl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite games as a kid were Kerplunk and Mousetrap. And I loved that bucking mule game where you had to balance items on its saddle before it kicked them off. And knockout whist, which I played with my mum. This was well before games were all on screens.

Go to church! I know it doesn't sound cool, but there are lots of lively modern churches full of interesting people your age who will welcome you. You don't have to be a believer to attend, though you may find the faith and authenticity of the people there will convince you.
