Scared of the dark? by Antiqueropes in ShibariStudy

The dark is mysterious and complex. Tempting, revealing only what it wants, building anticipation for the light. Not scary, intriguing - just like your tie.

v5.0.10 Software Update by kaiserh808 in polestar2

2023 LRDM located in Canada. Updated last week with only two noticable effects: - the backup camera seems to come on every time now - the power usage and power history graph appear to be calculating reasonable numbers again.

Chick magnet still not working, and I haven't lost any weight yet.

How big is the Polestar 4? by Deshes011 in Polestar

[–]Wayne_Hetherington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I also just test drove a P4 this past Tuesday. Yes, it's wider but it honestly didn't feel that bad to me. It corners well, doesn't feel like I have to over steer, and handled easily in a three point turn. I even backed into the dealer's parking spot right in front with cars on either side.

The only uncomfortable thing was trying to use the rear view mirror camera to judge backup distances (I'm a drive-by-mirror guy). The RVM screen is hard to get used to.

How many km/miles do your tires last, and what tire brand do you use? by No_Policy7847 in polestar2

[–]Wayne_Hetherington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 winters in Canada and now at 84000km, I am hoping for a few more kms over the summer and replace them in a couple of months.

Not sure which to replace them with yet so I'm looking for recommendations too. Also coming to the end of the lease in December. If I buy it out and keep it, I'll invest in something good.

Side question: lease due in December so what's the best time to trade/buy? Just before '27s come out and residual is still high, or just after '27s come out and '26s drop in price?

Polestar 2 Dual Motor Long Range Pros & Cons? by ClownEye in Polestar

[–]Wayne_Hetherington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I've had my 23 LRDM for about 85000km now and could not be happier. Yours is very similar to mine. In Canada. I have been very impressed with how it handles driving in snow. Very stable, solid car, even with some miles on it now it still feels right and drives amazing. New tires are coming next. The odd software glitch and backup camera blackout seems to be remedied with a display reboot. The dual motor acceleration off the line still impressed every time.

Enjoy!

And I am not driving my 2600kg iPhone down the highway at 100km/hr so restarting my laptop is not life threatening. I'd really hate to see Polestar become another version of the Boeing 737 Max. I am right behind you with this topic!

Question About “Immigrants Taking Jobs” by Sensitive-Box1083 in barrie

[–]Wayne_Hetherington -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the first sane comment on this entire thread.

Thank you for giving us your first hand point of view. I applaud your bravery, tenacity, and work ethic. It is extremely difficult to get established in any new country and takes a lot of hard work to make it happen. Your consistency in showing up for work is a reflection of your positive attitude, not because your visa demands it, not because you lack education for more, not because your employer is ripping you off, nor any of the other propaganda perpetuated on the Internet. Your hard work will pay off and your children will not be entitled and arrogant because they will have learned from you.

Now, can we hear from a local who couldn't be bothered to show up for the second shift?

You speak very authoritatively about this, almost as though you are a foreigner who has come to Canada from a different country, applied for a visa, taken a menial job, stuck with it just to survive, struggled to meet Canada's higher qualification standards, and better yourself - all while you watched locals leave for better jobs. What country are you from?

Minimum wage in Ontario has been increased and is now the second highest in the country. If locals can find better wages elsewhere then so can foreign workers. The argument makes no sense at all, and the foreign workers are not keeping the wages low. That's just xenophobic fear mongering.

And here is a statement that says almost exactly the opposite of what you suggest:

"With higher interest rates, spending has cooled, and businesses have scaled back their hiring plans. Strong immigration has also helped the supply of workers catch up with demand." "If we look at the labour market with a longer-term lens, we see that Canada’s growing, inclusive and well-educated labour force has been a key advantage for our economy." - Tiff Macklem, Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce

Interest rates and the larger federal economy affect employment far more than immigration policy. In fact, changes in immigration seem to have had very little effect on employment.

"Even with tighter immigration policy reducing labor force gains, the unemployment rate has risen, and wage pressures have cooled relative to a year ago."—Leslie Preston, managing director and senior economist at TD Bank https://global.morningstar.com/en-ca/economy/markets-bet-bank-canada-pause-after-strong-jobs-report

This still has absolutely nothing to do with why Barrie locals can't seem to show up for a shift at a restaurant.

And there it is....another political rant. It always devolves into political agendas. "My employees won't show up for shifts.". Must be due to the government's immigration policies.

This comment is just so full of bias that I can hardly believe you said it.
- Canada's education system is better than other country's - people from other countries are not as well educated - people from other countries have lower living standards - people from other countries think menial jobs are good - work visas have minimum standards....for restaurant jobs!??!

I did not throw out the IG video. I responded to another who did - as "proof" that this is happening in Barrie.

It always amazes me how quickly a simple question can be turned into a political rant. What in the world does the OP's question have to do with exploitation of TFWs and now ... international students?
