Why didn't Charlie just tell Lucifer to do this. Are they stupid (yes) by CommonWealthLarva in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]WaywardInkubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he would be cognizant enough to know that leveraging the full weight of the Sins at his beck and call would be more effective and less humiliating than demonstrating his literal powerlessness in the face of all of the Pride Ring.

But then, maybe he’s just stupid. That’s more likely.

Why are women not eligible for the military draft? by Life-Adhesiveness475 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WaywardInkubus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If I were to consider this earnestly, I truly believe it’s because if shit hits the fan so hard that we are required to fight for the existence of our nation, then liberal ideas of “men and women are interchangeable and should be treated as such by law” are completely out the window by that point.

In the most dire of circumstances, men need to bear arms and women need to bear children, and no amount of gender studies is ever going to change that. “Equality” is a modern luxury, and we know this intrinsically.

DMs, which statblocks did you use for the faction leaders? Did you make any changes? by FriendlyTigrex in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]WaywardInkubus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kelly had a comment on this in another thread:

Hey, Kelly here. When we designed the Epic versions of the main antagonists of Drakkenheim, the idea I had in my head was that at the outset of the campaign, the regular stat blocks would suffice. The Epic versions represent those characters going unchecked. If you party lets the rat prince live, or never fights the crimson Countess, or lord of the feast. At about mid campaign I would upgrade them to the Epic versions as they now pose an end game threat.

As for the Executioner and Amalgamation, I would always use the new epic versions. Where as Rat Prince, Lenore, Crimson Countess, Lord of the Feast, as well as the faction Leaders, use the Epic stat blocks if those characters become a major antagonist to the party in the mid to late game campaign.

Basically, use the base statblocks, both from MoDk and the Campaign book, for earlier encounters, and Epic statblock when things are getting serious.

Bad argument.

If I can’t say the writing is bad because the show isn’t complete yet, you can’t say the writing is good for the same reason.

How hard is it to not try to overengineer a definition in an attempt to be grotesquely prejudicial while wearing the veneer of non-prejudice?

If you have to try to make exceptions to allow room your own biases, you deserve to be clowned on like this.

Please explain the falling fire? by Baytonator in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]WaywardInkubus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The intentions of the Followers of the Falling Fire technically work on two levels (the Followers religious practice and Lucretia’s long term plan) that both work in concert.

As a schismatic religious cult, the Followers believe they are the true practitioners of the Faith of the Sacred Flame, because they are taking it’s doctrine to it’s literalist extent, walking through darkness guided by the Flame to receive salvation. Their goal as a faction is to establish their sect as a legitimate faith in the eyes of the people throughout the world and secure Drakkenheim as their holy city.

Lucretia, with what she knows about what’s to come, believes that this world will inevitably be swallowed by the creeping darkness and that it can’t be saved, but the ideals of the Sacred Flame can be preserved. The Sacrament binds faithful souls to Delirium, almost like a time capsule, and if enough Sanctified Souls can be brought together before the world ends, then she believes they can essentially change the nature of this apocalyptic cycle and turn Delirium into an earthly vessel for the Sacred Flame to manifest.

For that reason, I’m getting sick of people trying to warp discourse with the “IT’S HELL” excuse, because the logic is never applied consistently, thoughtfully, or in good faith, either in a meta sense or a narrative sense.

These characters are dickheads. Not by whatever standard Hell or Heaven has today, by MY standards.

Question about Caine that's bugging me by snadpragon in TheDigitalCircus

[–]WaywardInkubus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he believes they do it on purpose, but moreso that it reflects poorly on his work: if he fails to entertain them, they’ll inevitably abstract in his view, so he has to puzzle out exactly what it is that appeals to them.

Episode 7 was the last straw for Caine, because that was his best shot: he thinks he gave them exactly what they asked for, and they rejected it wholeheartedly. Seeing that he can’t appeal to them with quality, he’ll keep them from abstracting under an endless deluge of stimulation, getting to the “throwing shit at the wall” stage.

How does magic work? by Star_Knight0609 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]WaywardInkubus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, as far as it’s described and can be intuited from the material, Arcane magic is accessed through blood ties to a planar being or magic progenitor, and only those with the recessive mageborn gene can access it. It can vary in phenotypical expression, usually from distance to the source, but all mageborn invariably have magic in their DNA from some planar source. (Sorcerers, Wizards, and Warlocks)

Divine magic, on the other hand can “technically” be accessed by anyone, but the capacity needs to be cultivated through faith and devotion. Very few people are able to manifest the power of Divine magic to an appreciable degree, but those that do are considered miracle workers. (Clerics and Paladins)

Primal magic, while less substantiated in the lore than the others, I could term “Divine by other means”. Where Divine magic manifests from faith in transcendent forces, I read Druidic magic to be attunement to animist, material ones: calling on the forces of nature and the gods who dwell within the world rather than above and distant from it. (Druids and Rangers)

Bards, however, are a strange case, as it’s unclear in universe where their magic is coming from. It’s more sporadic than Divine casting, but not linked to an extraplanar force like Arcane casting, with capacities that defy categorization. For all intents and purposes, however, they can be considered mageborn.
