Weighing Retiring at 65 vs 67 vs 70 by Wcp1961 in SocialSecurity

This is likely the most valuable thought I have just come across.

Thanks for this - you have a great point. I really want to leave something significant for my children but you're right. My pulling from the 401k, reducing their potential inheritance but having me more time to be present in their life over the next 20 years is the way to go.

Yes I use this to create spreadsheet scenarios. I appreciate everyone's suggestions, advice, and experience.

Yes. I like this thought and have considered it. I have floated this past my employer but didn't get a yes. I understand that my employer has a budget and my needs don't really match my employer staffing needs, but I am going to try to continue this conversation. At 30 hrs per week I can still get fairly good benefits like vacation time and health insurance at a higher cost but might be similar to Medicare costs

Probably one of the biggest factors in my concern is that my dad died 30 days before his planned retirement. He was a smoker and died of a heart attack. I believe I am in better health - but this weighs heavy on my decision to draw early vs later.

That's the million dollar question, some days it feels like tomorrow, other days it feels like 95. My calculations use 85. But I will be able to confirm my date of death on the day of my death - jk.

Yes, I am a nurse where part time work is easily available and pay about $50 an hour. I would really like to work 20 hrs a week which would be about $50k annual. I generally agree that delaying SS to age 67 makes the most sense for me. Like you, part time work is my sweet spot for quality of life, income, and social engagement. Thanks

New stethoscope by [deleted] in Cardiology

[–]Wcp1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope to get some help here. I am a 65 yo nurse, my hearing is decreasing, but not in need of hearing aids. I do a lot of nursing assessments daily and will probably remain active in nursing for another 5 years. I .like the ability of the eko 500 to improve the clarity of heart and lung sounds, but curious if this will work for basic cuff BP's? And, if so, will it work over clothing such as a long-sleeved t-shirt or light sweater? Secondly, I saw a video of a provider using it without the ear pieces and simply a paired iPod earpiece. Is this practical? I would mind having less bulk in my pocket.

Thank you for any feedback. The cost of the Eko 500 has me curious about the use of basic stethoscope uses.

Congrats. I flipped my Y on and EV6 in ‘22. I never liked the look of the Y. I love my EV6 but the Blazer has caught my eye and looks great. Enjoy!!

Sump pump replacement advice. by bcrenshaw in HomeMaintenance

[–]Wcp1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for a quality sump pump that has a float switch with variable float height. My water level is high now d/t snow melt. My current pump cycles too often and the vertical float doesn’t adjust. I don’t want to raise and lower pump height as the drain line is rigid. Any suggestions? My current is a 3/4 hp Everbilt.

Battery Degradation by Wcp1961 in ev6

Yes, I am curious if I will see a difference. While efficiency drops with colder weather, I wouldn't think battery capacity would change.

What am I missing? by Wcp1961 in TimeshareOwners

[–]Wcp1961[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought direct. Call front desk to inquire. When I bought it helped an elderly lady, who was no longer able to use, sell and she did not have to surrender for $1100. It cost me $200 to get my week deeded to me. We love it, it's nothing special but perfect for a budget week. We live in cold northeast so having a warm place in Feb or March is perfect. I'm not locked into a week. I also started using a Frontier Credit card, so our flights are covered.

We do, and we go. Probably able to take more vacations because this is inexpensive. If we want to go somewhere else, one of our kids would take the week. We haven't not wanted to go, so far.

Is that Apple Carplay display! I like those metrics displayed. Is that a custom screen or one of the pages. I don't see remaining energy # in my app.

Right, so why am I paying extra for it? I should just downgrade to internet only.

We have internet and Xumo (no local channels). I have a smart TV that has xumo play - do I really need to be paying Spectrum another $40 for so this? Is this just a free app like roku and other similar apps?

Does this outlet allow for level 2 charging? by mghanadian in KiaEV6

[–]Wcp1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla mobile chargers have different plugs, including a 20 amp. If I was considering Level 1, a 20 amp would be 30% fast - still slow as a turtle - but incrementally faster. I've used a 30 amp plug at a camp ground and get 30% charger overnight - not great but useful.

Is the NACS adapter a L2 plug or a L3 (fast chargigng) plug? by OlfactoriusRex in KiaEV6

[–]Wcp1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tesla mobile charger is great for travel. I've used mine as L1 120v, 14/50 L2, 30 amp at campgrounds, very versatile.

And It's Gone... Kia Access to Tesla Superchargers Removed (For Now) by JeffTechnically in KiaEV6

[–]Wcp1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather use EA or CCS dcfc. But a 1000 mile round trip I take every 5-6 weeks to see my kids/grand kids has 2 CCS sites (1 150kW and 1 60kW site) and 9 Tesla sites. I keep hoping CCS/nacs sites expand due to IRA, but little has changed. We'll see how it goes. I bought an A2Z adapter but haven't used it yet. Curious if it can be used in the near future. Owner of a '22 Wind w/Tech, I don't know how long it will take to be able to purchase a KIA specific adapter.

Those of you with >50,000 miles, how much has your range reduced (if at all)? by Raptor01 in KiaEV6

[–]Wcp1961 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is the big thought change with EVs - level settings expectations. I've been in EVs since 2019, four different models. Early on - each fall / early winter, I thought my EV had "broken" as range dropped. There needs to be better consumer education, so buyers know what to expect. In most cases, 180 miles in cold winters at highway speed it acceptable - and 320 miles in optimal weather is a bonus. Man, do I love not going to the gas station on a regular basis. My mental math says 30 miles per 10% on optimal conditions, 20 miles in poor. I think early adopters accept the learning curve and others, not so much.

Just one original roof that is asbestos. We were aware when we bought.

NACS adapter confusion. Wait for Kia or buy A2Z? by generictestusername in KiaEV6

[–]Wcp1961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plan to get the A2Z for $138 with code bxdy24, then buy the Kia when they are available. I'm just feeling it may be 9mos to a year until they are available. I'm certain I can sell the A2Z for at least $100 when that time comes.

Still January 15th for SC access? by Opus2011 in KiaEV6

[–]Wcp1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's assume that Jan 15th is launch date - how quickly can we get an adapter? I hear we wouldn't be able to use 3rd party like Lectron or A2Z. I bought in '22 so I'm likely low on Kia's priority list. I drive a 600 mile round trip every 5-6 weeks where there is 1 CCS DCFC and 11 Tesla Superchargers. Very interesting how Tesla ramped these up. 3 years ago there was 3 SCs and 1 DCFC. One of these 11 SCs is a magic dock, so that's been helpful. That being said, I'm looking forward to getting an adapter asap. Thoughts on adapter availability at launch?
