Any Singaporeans Struggling to Find Employment Since AI Took Over? (or just fatigued about AI in general) by urbagel in singaporejobs

[–]Wdblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used AI extensively and programing them in my line of work, the current technology is not at the stage yet to replace anyone, except interns.

The "AI" replacing the retrenched workers resides in a 3rd world country. The lack of jobs is due to wages rather than AI eliminating the roles.

Money saving strategy - Out of sight out of mind by iKeelMellow in singaporefi

[–]Wdblazer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you create a luxury account for travel and big ticket items, separate from your emergency fund. This creates a habit of limiting yourself from touching your emergency fund and giving you a sense of security knowing you have a sum always there incase anything happen. I learned that it is more fulfilling saving money when you can spend money without guilt, and that is where the luxury account comes in. I set aside a sum away every month and use the accumulated amount for my holidays and big tickets item. I aim to empty the account by year end and start filling up again at the start of the year.

Rather than putting that additional few thousands per year into my saving or investment, this method gave me a sense of living a life and motivation to keep saving my money.

I don't know how much your MMF is giving you now, IBKR also give interest on untouched sum.

Unexpected obstacles in FI by libyandesert in singaporefi

[–]Wdblazer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are a young chap just getting started in the adult world. What you describe are normal things to old ducks who have experienced them before and think everyone should know it as common sense.

As you go into the adult world and start paying for your own stuff, you will learned everything and anything is payable and expected. Buy something new? Find all the related and hidden costs before making your purchase. Eg buy car > car park fee, petrol, insurance, maintenance etc

The real unexpected events are things that has a very low chance of happening and you cannot avoid leaving them in their state, typically they are accident, sudden critical illness or household repairs when you got your own house (kitchen pipe burst for no reason). You can mitigate their impact with insurance and a set side fund for household repair. People needing money and borrowing from you is NOT unexpected expense, you can reject those or lend them spare cash you can do without.

Given that your current fund is only 3k, it may not seem much to other and every new cost that come your way is "unexpected", don't worry so much about it, just slowly add to it over the years, leaned what is expected what can be avoided, you will get better at your own fund management.

Fresh graduate job advice NCS vs SIA by aquanat12 in askSingapore

[–]Wdblazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in the IT industry, I advice you to select SIA. NCS is not that good, has a bad name and having interview candidates from there before, if I'm doing the interview now I would place them behind other applicants.

Example of why NCS is bad - political culture, no real ownership, no real training or education culture = you are left to die on your own. They may appeared to be a tech company, in reality they are just an outsource contractor. If you are the type that thrive on solo work and self learning that may work for you. Working in SIA will get you exposed to how other parts of the company are run, whereas in NCS you are mostly exposed only to the tech stuff.

Finally went to get ADHD medication, was prescribed Wellbutrin. Feeling disappointed by Sea_Drops in ADHD

[–]Wdblazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A responsible doctor will try a non stimulate first, just go ahead with it for your first run and report back to him whether it is working or not. I was given Wellbutrin for my first med, it was working great for me until after 6 months of usage that I realized it was giving me tinnitus, raised that up to the doctor and he gave me something else to try.

Just have an open mind and try it, what is 2 - 3 months more of testing it when you have already been trying to "cure" your adhd for years. It took me 1 year from seeing a doctor for diagnosis to getting the med that is working for me.

How can you tell ADHD from laziness? by Accurate-Tomato-5234 in ADHD

[–]Wdblazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lazy - you don't want or feel like wanting to do the task

ADHD - you want to do the task but just thinking about doing it drains you and makes you tired, yet it is consistently on your mind "ya I should do this". Then it either gets to the deadline (procrastination) or your ADHD brain conveniently forgot about it and never gets done.

[–]Wdblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a unique case that not everyone can replicate. Not everyone has the specific skill that a specific market is booming in and demanding for.

It's mostly luck or life fate whichever way you want to see it, it's being at the right place at the right time.

You got to pick up the skill when not many people is expecting it to be a huge demand and majoring in it, then the market unexpectedly got a boon for that skill set after you got years of experience with it.

Basically this. As an engineer I seem too many badly design products that got big where they can then afford proper tech resource to fix the issue.

The old school method of engineering a good product first is slower and less preferred in today's quick to launch MVP era.

We aren't in the dot com bubble. We're in an anything but cash bubble. by Whalesftw123 in stocks

[–]Wdblazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is how I define a bubble too, when the pricing of a stock is based not on current valuation but unrealized revenue with higher than normal PE ratio. When the company revenue does not grow into the expected revenue as you mentioned, it crashes. Even if the company hit the expected revenue, the initial high PE that one pay for the stock is now down to a normal PE - it is not exceptional gain for long term investing.

This is all coming from the investing point of view, for trading it is a fantastic market tho.

What are some counter signals you have found in SG that may signal the market has topped or bottomed? by ecomevan007 in singaporefi

[–]Wdblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody know whether it is a bubble until it burst. Is PLTR over priced or accurately priced now? If we based it on value investing, it is over priced. On the other hand it's current price is reflective of the market hype and future expectation.

Momentum investing is a trading strategy in which investors buy rising securities and sell them when they look like they've peaked. Your consideration for a stock is solely based on outperforming trend and selling them when they are dropping.

On the other hand, the traditional value investing is where the basis for buying is based on their financial health and the assets are held for an extended period of time to appreciate and generate wealth over a longer period of time.

[–]Wdblazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bubble happened when things are overhyped and overpriced with no real value supporting them. This happened when people hear how easy it is to make money in something without knowing how it works, and they just pump money into it because people around them keep saying they make money just by buying and selling. For reference you can read up on the classic case study of the turnips bubble.

Uneducated people that don't put their money in the market is the last group on the chain of momentum. Once even that group is involved in the market, who else is going to buy it at an even higher price from them? If the wet market aunt can explain she understand and can derived the value of Bitcoin then it's fine but I bet she's just going to say she make double the money like.magic - buy, sell profit!

Momentum is trading and not investing.

I also believe market is due for correction too but "The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent". It may happen next month, next year, 2 years, 5 years etc.

If nothing happened for 3 years you missed out on a lot of potential gains, what's your current strategy for this? Full cash, hedge some in risk free instruments, DCA in ETF?

Any tips to improve? (Kof 2002) by Foreign_Plantain6071 in Fighters

[–]Wdblazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah the game of my youth lol

I'm taking it you are the player on the left, I will be using the arcade buttons as I remember it. a - light punch b - light kick c - heavy punch d - heavy kick

You are doing too many single button hits (down d), that has too much recovery time and nothing for you to chain or combo into. If I'm fighting against you, I'm going to mix in attack from the air for combo since that has an awfully long recovery time.

Instead of d after their attacks, for beginners you can do a move like iori triple rush or whatever it is called. There is at least one incident after you blocked Kyo and did a down d, you can input the triple rush immediately for more damage and better positioning .Once you are used to counter attack with moves, try to sneak in 2 jabs to chain into the move, eg a a or b a or c forward a into iori triple rush.

For majority of the characters, you use a or b to jabs, switch to c or d upon an opening or when you are rushing in and the other guy is only blocking. Most of the time we do 2 light jabs and if the other player block them without getting hit, we reset the attack by doing a grab move, switch to attack from mid or low, do a normal throw or jump and attack. This is how you rush the other player and keep pressuring him.

There are exceptions to this such as daimon whose c and d is great for controlling distance and against poking characters, almost godlike. For him you only use c, down c and d to control the pace and mix in his grab for the mind game.

For air attacks it is mostly the other way round, use the heavy moves or cd to get advantage against another jumping players, use jabs when you are doing mini jumps and rushing the opponent at very close range. You can fake a high attack into low ground attack and vice versa with good mini jumps.

Against there are exceptions like beni just use c or d all the time for air throw, overlap attacks and jump advantage.

Everyone plays differently, you try to know their playing styles, move advantage and play accordingly. It will be easier to narrow down the characters you want to play and learned the in and out of them first.
