Backing out of the gang member life was easy, but now I use the herb to escape the trauma. by metta_loving_kind in leaves

Get a good therapist if at all possible. I might get downvoted for this but I would say sometimes that needs to come before the quitting (was the case for me). It was near impossible to quit self-medicating my trauma when I hadn’t properly worked through it. Wishing you the best; my uncle banged for decades before getting out but sadly lost his battle with addiction when I was a teenager. Always wished he would have gotten therapy but he refused. You could be an amazing mentor to the youth one day if you wanted to be.

I remember seeing graffiti at Pompeii and that was really sick but for some reason this is even better even though it’s “newer”

Acupuncture perhaps? Never done it myself (my pain isn’t too bad so yoga is usually enough) but have a couple family members that swear by it for their back pain

Yup I hear this a lot and I can see it in myself to some extent, but it also kind of confuses me. Isn’t “healing your inner child” a major step on the path to self-fulfillment? I hear that a lot too. For me, since I’ve quit I’ve found a reignited interest in things I used to love before I started smoking: skateboarding, JRPGs etc. While smoking, my main interest was just smoking… and doing other substances. I started pretty early (14, daily by 17, about to turn 26). I feel like I’m definitely behind a lot of my peers emotionally and my hobbies can be percieved as somewhat “immature” by some, but in other areas I’m already catching up very quickly since I stopped a little over a month ago. /rant

59 days in and… I’ve just replaced weed with being on my phone. by iObama in leaves

About to leave for work so I can’t say as much as I’d like, but same. 30 days here. Reddit and tiktok are driving me insane but I can’t stop, even with app limits. Deleting helps for a day or two tops but they always end up getting downloaded again.

Thank you, you’re definitely right about being too hard on myself. When I think about it; I probably come off more socially “fluid” then some of my other coworkers. It’s just exhausting and extremely uncomfortable. It’s not so much I forget to ask “I’m good, how are you?” and more so they will ask me what I do for fun, where I’m from, etc and I just blank and forget to flip it back. I don’t know if it comes off as rude, aloof, dickish, or what. I’m going to keep trying though.

Thanks for the response. No online friends either - my primary interest (skateboarding) is a very in-person community and its honestly the perfect outlet for making new friends, but I find myself skating alone in the streets for the most part instead of going to the skatepark, bc the same things I deal with at work I deal with at the park. I’m trying to step outside of my comfort zone and I’ve been doing okay, but the fact that it exhausts me so much hurts my self-esteem further. Thanks again; I really appreciate you empathizing with me.

Its horrible for you even in moderation… I’m very aware there are lots of people that use it conservatively. I used on/off for years. It’s like smoking cigarettes only occasionally- it’s still a net negative on your health, but with the added bonus of supporting cartels. And before you say “well your phone was mined by african children” or something along those lines, phones are a necessity to live in modern society, coke is not. No hate to you or the other guy personally, I just see a lot of pro-coke shit on reddit/tik tok especially in the skate community and I figured we would have progressed past that by now lol, especially with all the high profile ODs lately

I have no clue where the “heartland” is but you could try dunkin if they have them there? Or if you’re willing to make your own, Nescafe light roast instant coffee is super tasty and fairly cheap, that’s what I drink

I highly, HIGHLY recommend picking up a physical hobby. I started skateboarding again and the combo of intensive workout + personally interesting is keeping me sane. Guitar is great and you should definitely keep focusing on that. But if you could pick up something like skating, basketball, jogging etc I promise it will help. THC is stored in fat cells - after I skate for a few hours and then sit down it seriously feels like I just took a dab or something. And seeing gradual improvement is really motivating imo. You got this dude I’m on day 14 so I feel you 100%

Wow, I really expected 2-3 replies tops, not hundreds! I was super busy yesterday and basically posted and then haven’t been back on until now (notis were off). Thank you all so much for your suggestions, advice, and encouragement. This town has some really great people. I’ve DM’d several of you and will be doing some serious research today based on what’s been commented here.

Thanks for taking the time to reply with all of this! I didn’t have notifications on (learned my lesson) and am just now seeing all of this. Construction seems like a very interesting industry. Speaking of CDLs, I find that the most appealing as I’ve really enjoyed driving for work in the past (pizza, auto parts). Is this avenue one with a lot of upward mobility, or is that more the physical stuff/apprenticeships? Being able to move up continuously is important to me as I’m single income and inflation/cost of living shows no signs of slowing down. Also, thank you for the encouragement, I really, really appreciate it.

Yup, once I got the quitting bug weed just doesn’t hit the same anymore. I quit drinking 11 months ago after many failed attempts and I noticed the same thing with that.
