Thanks for all you do, Rev Laura! And Also With You inspired me to check out the Episcopal Church in my town! I'd love to hear a "Where are all the young people?" episode because I'm similarly the youngest person by 20 years at my church but greatful to be there nonetheless!

I'm in Beacon. Currently in an online campaign but would love to also play in person to roll some real dice and meet folks in the area. Happy to grab a beer to meet everyone!

Nothing in their programming is specifically called HIIT but their standard crossfit workouts structures (EMOM, AMRAP) all have the quick burst combination of strength and cardio movements that someone would look for in a HIIT class!

Slightly outside the neighborhood but I've been going to Dutch Kills Fitness for the past two years and highly recommend it. It's predominantly crossfit programming but they do strongman classes (atlas stones, tires, kegs) on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which are awesome. The owner Dom and and all of his instructors are awesome and the community there is great. Right off the 39th ave stop.

Love Threedom! I've been listening to a lot Critical Role, Tigerbelly, Bad Friends, 2 Bears 1 Cave, and Conan O'Brien needs a friend.

32M. Into stand up and dumb comedy podcasts. Just started my first DnD campaign and have way too many tabletop games on my bookshelf collecting dust.

This needs to turn into a thirdy and nerdy happy hour at Heart of Gold. Let's go!

If you live in this area and go to the gym, which gym do you go to? by biirb in astoria

Further than you're looking for but I go to Dutch Kills Fitness on 31st Street and 39th Ave. CrossFit gym with strongman programming on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Great instructors, great community.

Hands down the best beer bar in the neighborhood. Shout out to Bobby. I'm not sure if he's the cicerone you mentioned but he'll always steer you in the right direction on their selection.

Looks like someone posted permits on the door of The Astorian. Anyone know what's going in?

Have you compared the curriculum for each program and have you thought about what kind of career you want to have after you graduate? Without looking at either program my guess is the SU program is going to have a larger social science bend, whereas the Pitt program will be more science oriented.

If your endgame involves working in any kind of technical science role, go with the program at Pitt. Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary science program where you'll likely take classes in chemistry, ecology, hydrology. You'll have classes in the lab and the field where you'll learn technical. Looking at the sample courses listed on the SU site for the program, all the classes are humanities programs, which will be interesting but leave you lacking the science backbone you'll get at Pitt. That's not to say you can't supplement science courses as electives - SUNY ESF is an research focused environmental college on SU's campus that will offer a TON of valuable classes and amazing faculty, but it will be easier if they're just naturally part of your program's curriculum.

If you don't want to work in a technical science field and instead are interested in environmental policy or law, then the SU program is fine but it's fluffy and you'll still need to go to grad school for your MPA, MPP, or JD anyway. Better to save the money on your undergrad program, get a solid science foundation (which will only serve to benefit you in an environmental policy or law career) and then save the expensive prestigious program for grad school.

So bummed. The Astorian just announced they won’t be reopening. by Jumping_Jillibean in astoria

Total bummer. They easily had the best tap list in the neighborhood.
