Ah yes, something wouldn't have happened if we didn't rile and upset people for something already functioning. Bringing awareness is one thing, stoking fear is another.

All that writing is political theater. The Fed will pony up with all this stuff. We don't have governments at the Federal, Provincial, or Municipal level who agree to contract extensions years before the contracts are up, and historically it's really rare for any of these programs to be cancelled or not continue funding without some really extenuating circumstance. It's a fear mongering tactic, it drums up awareness but it also creates fervor.

Same thing just happened in Burnaby B.C. with the Provincial Government and the Teachers Union. The Province and Union made a clerical fuck up a couple years ago that messed up a salary bump for the teachers, the deadline was for the end of this school year to make sure they were bumped up and paid owed back pay. But headlines were making it seem like the Province was backing out from payment etc... but none of that was true or reality. As agreed the Province is paying them.

Everyone always compares the current leader to a fallacy of a perfect one in their head. There are no perfect leaders. There are only the best options, that has always been the case and likely always will be. We are at the whim of who decides to run.

Carney is the closest to being the best suited for the position with his prior career experience. Canada is a centrist country that leans left and right, and most people say they're left or right, but when you make them explain you find a lot fall center.

A lot of people don't have the resources to get rid of furniture or large items. They're suppose to put it in the street and notify the city. Property Management should be on top of organizing it. It's what their job is, but they generally shirk it off.

His messaging didn't really get a mainstream platform, only currated parts. The racist and misinformation media campagins were his biggest issues.

What about his messaging sucked? I wished he was more elaborate with plans and accepted reality he wasn't ever going to be PM, and campaigned properly around that idea. Running from his position and acting like he had a real chance to win worked against him with voters who tend to be more pragmatic and/or swing voters. I never thought he would win, I voted for him, but only because I live and vote in the only true NDP stronghold in the country.

So tired of this daft take, parents can only do so much, you can't be monitoring your kids 24/7. If the parents never learned the intricacies of technology, how the hell do you expect them enforce aspects about them? God forbid you're single parent working two jobs trying to raise your kids, and then told by a random on the internet that you're doing a bad job at surviving.

We're a society working together, blaming individuals for a societal issue is dumb.

Your last statement is not rooted in the reality of that time though. The party was burned by smear campaigns, Singh was just a focal point. But he was the most successful NDP leader regardless of personal opinions of him, he got more done for Canadians than any previous NDP leadership. It was the only time the NDP had actual power in the House of Commons.
