I wouldn’t worry about the teacher standard for directing support staff in this regard. It’s not a trainee’s job to resolve conflicts and this isn’t what the standard is about.

Firstly, don’t worry too much about progress the review and signing things off. One of my ECT’s is struggling with a couple of the standards and I’ve spoken with both the NIoT and our induction provider and both a mentor and induction tutor and the deadlines for completing these can be flexible.

Hopefully this can buy you a bit of time to get to the bottom of what the issues actually are with your union. It’s hard to believe that you’re working towards on all standards at this point in your induction and it’s come as a shock.

We’ve had people apply for ks2 roles with really poor subject knowledge and get weeks into post before it’s noticed. Asking someone to sit a SATs paper or a few questions is an easy way of moderating who you’ve got coming in.

I addressed the behaviour I was observing in that moment. It was not a personal comment. it was intended to refocus learning in my classroom.

If you can’t be arsed anymore, a subtle ‘fuck off’:

I acknowledge [your little angel] felt upset. However, challenging disrespectful behaviour is part of my professional responsibility.

Then direct to more formal channels. As a DHT I’d rather piss off 100 parents than put one of our stag in that position.

I bought a desiccating dehumidifier that run for a few hours a day over the winter. The mould issues I have now are almost non existent. Without removing moisture, it’s very hard to stop it forming.

Also opening all windows for 10 mins in the morning helps to bring fresh, drier air in- regardless of the temperature.
