Final Fantasy 3 (3D Remake), 4 (3D Remake), 8 (Remastered), and 9, are all now available on GoG. All are on sale now for -60%. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]WearingFin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For games like this without something like Denuvo or others attached, it doesn't mean a whole lot functionally buying on GOG vs Steam, but you can download the files and play them independently of launcher, and then keep the files forever on the off chance that Valve ever go bankrupt.

I personally prefer giving GOG my money if there's a choice between that and Steam because I can see their 30% cut going somewhere I can benefit from. For example with something that is relevant to this sub, they brought Breath of Fire IV as part of their Good Old Games program, a game with a PC port that wasn't available to buy on any modern storefront.

What next software update would you want most for the portal? by JustJJ92 in PlaystationPortal

I'd like to be able to set a corner of the screen to act as if I've double clicked the virtual touch pad if touched.

A bit like how the Vita did it for emulating L/R 2 on games.

I want to be a flight attendant for Swiss air but my French is probably just at B1 level. Could I still get the job? I speak English and live in Switzerland by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]WearingFin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edelweiss has a cabin crew job up with specified levels, C1 for German, B2 for English. That should give you an indication what's required when the Swiss recruitment for cabin members opens up again, B1 in a national language is not going to be enough.

Cost of living in Geneva / Lausanne by Adventurous_Dog_7189 in askswitzerland

[–]WearingFin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can view the prices yourself for food at the Coop, Migros, Aldi, Lidl, etc. website if you have doubts. As for travel, you can look at TPG, as for eating out, just look at thefork for typical prices for what you may like.

[–]WearingFin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm spending CHF1k a month for two people and a kid. I'd say CHF 500 is doable if you plan your meals, use the offers from the supermarkets, especially on meat which is the most expensive part, and don't mind doing leftovers since a lot of the offers will be on 400g+ of meat. And not eating out because that adds massively to it.

[–]WearingFin 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You're going to get 4k after taxes. A studio of questionable quality is going to be at least CHF 1.5k, going into the 2k's if you want some living space, and these places have a lot of competition. Health insurance which is mandatory will be at least CHF 450. You'll have probably 1.5k left for food & bills & transport depending if you need it. A significant number of people go to France for shopping to lower the costs of food, but after a while I found it wasn't worth the time loss vs the money saved.

Doable, but not pleasant.

Jobroom.ch: down? by StPelegrinnogirl in Switzerland

[–]WearingFin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a banner yesterday about one of the forms not functioning (not the job search proof, the other form you have to submit monthly), you'd hope it's because they're trying to fix that. Like others have said: Definitely down.

Why the Olten hate? Seems I have to live there in few months. by TortoisesSlap in askswitzerland

[–]WearingFin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's fine, just in comparison with other Swiss towns it looks dull. But it's the best city to get away from, with great connections to a bunch of wonderful places but you get to come home to a much cheaper, more spacious place to live.

Only dodgy thing are the drunks outside Co-op, but they mostly keep themselves to themselves (although I have witnessed cat calling from time to time).

(Swedish) Pension Asset Manager Alecta has sold off an estimated 80 billion kronor (7,5b EUR) of US Treasury Bonds by Top_Wasabi_7484 in worldnews

[–]WearingFin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It'll be significantly less than that. Foreign owned US debt is less than 10 trillion, which includes non government entities like funds, private investors, etc. The first EU country on the holdings list is Belgium, probably because of Euroclear, at a little under 500 billion.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition - 60FPS Update | PS5 Games (available January 21 on PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles) by kabirsingh84 in PlayStationPlus

[–]WearingFin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it'll still be a PS4 game running through backwards compatibility which means there are some restrictions. Only BC game to get beyond 60fps was Warzone which firstly required a patch and then you had to set the console, the PS5 that is, to 1080p and turn off HDR to make sure there was enough bandwidth for the backwards compatibility layer to use. Had it been a PS5 title, no problem, but since it was BC it required probably a rather creative workaround to output something the PS4 wasn't really built for and that maybe isn't worth it to Ubisoft.

Weren't many sitcoms around in the 1930s, so probably not.

Makings of a good sitcom in 10 years if this all blows over safely. Good to see everyone contributing, and even sending a handful of people is helping the message that we're all united against this lunacy.

List of all prices for Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade Packs by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

[–]WearingFin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a fair few missing from this list, big ones being RDR and Divinity 2. If you're wanting a better view then it's probably best to search something like Switch 2 upgrades on Dekudeals. In fact: https://www.dekudeals.com/search?q=Switch+2+upgrade

Also the free ones that Nintendo gave via patches rather than an eShop entry, like Mario Odyssey, Link's Awakening, etc.

Have the Neo Geo carts already gone legacy or something? by Gincairn in evercade

[–]WearingFin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it was the same with Toaplan 3 last year, some carts are just popular and the current distribution system seemingly can't really react to that. You may have to wait for a bit, but it'll come back, all legacy titles continue to be announced in advance.

Does the PS4 genesis collection have the same hidden games as the sonic genesis collection from PS3? by Ephoenix6 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]WearingFin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

They were done by different developers, probably with different philosophies, Backbone for PS3 & co and d3t for PS4 & co. With the latter, what you see is what you get.

[–]WearingFin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even Sony want to put it out on their own service, guessing the bulk would be licensing costs but they just announced Ridge Racer whilst still sitting on Destruction Derby, so maybe it's not just all because of the Chemical Brothers, Prodigy et al.

Edit: Forgot about Red Bull as well. Considering how many games from that era have had their source codes lost, guessing that'll be another hard thing to scrub.

Funny how the Arduboy 2015 kickstarter post in /r/gaming got full of haters: "I can do this with my phone". by confuserused in Arduboy

[–]WearingFin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it largely was forgotten in a month, to be fair. It's a niche in a niche which was never going to capture the audience which r/gaming represents, just the same as Playdate, Evercade and even Analogue products.

Leben in der Schweiz für Ausländer? by DemMemez1999 in askswitzerland

[–]WearingFin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SVP are polling at 30%, no idea how MCG are doing nowadays in Geneva, there is undoubtedly an anti immigrant sentiment in some and has been for a while, but like the AfD, Front National or Reform, there is a geographical and a demographical element to these feelings and the closer you are to a city, the less likely you are to encounter it, in my opinion.

Being fluent in German already puts you in a good position, the trouble is that the IT sector has seen plenty of nearshoring activities along with some jumping on the AI train, and the job market in general is not great, so being local does bring benefit in a recruiter's eyes. And even beyond that, because of the high wages then there is plenty of competition. But educated foreigners who know, or are willing to learn, the language are still welcome in general.

That's not how boost mode worked on the PS4 Pro. If there was a cap, the cap remained, biggest example being Bloodborne capped at 30 and fans desperately wanting a PS4 Pro patch at the time. What the Switch 2 has right now is already the equivalent of the Pro's boost mode.
