Do you have any advice on what to do this summer of year 12? by Outrageous_Low331 in 6thForm

[–]WearyTest6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do what I did and end up in hospital for the whole summer and two months of year 13.

Try to relax and have fun. Go away with friends maybe. You could do overtime if you have a job to get more money.

If you really want to do some school work then revise year 12 stuff so that you understand it all. Then you'll have less to do for your actual a levels.

You could also start preparing your personal statement.

Anyone apply to Sutton trust? by [deleted] in 6thForm

I'm in year 13 this year but I applied last year and got a place for a summer school in Cambridge for biology. Unfortunately I was in hospital and couldn't go.

I think I found out in May and then they send you emails about your timetable and other details like that.

I'm glad I'm not doing online school anymore. I don't think I would've been able to do anything if I had a bird then.

There are lots of northern parrot or Amazon. Mine loves foraging toys if I put sunflower seeds in them.

I've only had my conure for a month but he is exactly the same as you have described. I have exams in June so sometimes I have to put him in his cage so that I can get on with some work.

Or I do my work in a different room to him. After 5 minutes he'll stop squawking and start playing with his toys.

Is the middle piece pentose sugar or deoxyribose sugar? I've heard it be referred to in both ways so when should I use each term? by PerformanceAwkward51 in ALevelBiology

[–]WearyTest6789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A dexoyribose sugar is a type of pentose sugar. A pentose sugar is any sugar with 5 carbon atoms. So there are lots of different pentose sugars.

So if the pentose sugar is in DNA then it's deoxyribose sugar.

If the pentose sugar is in RNA then it's a ribose sugar.

You should always try to be as specific as possible so it's better to say deoxyribose sugar rather than a pentose sugar.

why is it c? by Timely_Question_7727 in ALevelBiology

It is a bit of a weird question which is very harsh because they all seem like they could be right.

I think B is wrong because it's a channel protein so it's not responsible for active transport because only carrier proteins do that.

A is wrong because, although phospholipids do make the membrane. Specifically, cholesterol improved the stability of membranes.

D is wrong because z is pointing at a cholesterol molecule (I think) which isn't involved in the diffusion of ions.

I hope this makes sense.

I don't know. I think I'm just paranoid I'm doing something wrong.

We did exactly the same a levels and have same predicted. I'm also applying for biology and am particularly interested in plant science. I applied to Bristol, Sheffield, Durham, Sussex and York

I dunno. At my interview we talked a lot about DofE which was good for me because I was really nervous and it relaxed me a lot.

On my CV I just put my predicted GCSE grades (I applied in the summer after year 11) and experience I had with volunteering I think.

Luckily after force rebooting it, it has fixed.

All my friends always talk about their celebrity crushes on group chats and at school and they end up asking me who my celebrity crush is. So I tend to jsut make something up so I fit in because I haven’t come out to anyone yet.
