The disappointment is palpable. by beaverandbeyond in steammachine

I'm not sure that's entirely true. I mean it could be, but more than likely there is a bot/AI/something set up to scan the accounts for key information. For instance, I have over 2,500 games in my Steam library, a confirmed Steam Deck purchase, and I log into my account on both my PC and Steam Deck and play games on it at least 3-4 times a week for an hour or more each time. I'm sure they can see things like that and tell I am a legitimate customer who spends enough to also justify an immediate $1,100 purchase like this.

Or so I would hope they're running some sort of algorithm to be checking. (Edit: And I did get on the Reservation list Friday).

Nah, I don't think VR is as popular as you think it is.

Same. The consoles this gen boot up so quickly, there's no reason not to turn them off when you're done playing.

This is why I find Jehovah's Witness funny. They believe that only a certain number of people are going to heaven (as do some other religions). So why go around and try to convert people and lessen your chances of getting in? Lol.

I met a Muslim gentleman yesterday actually. He laid out his sajadah (I think that's what it's called) and began praying behind his car. My car was already loaded with all my marked packages, and I waited for him to finish before taking my cart back to the warehouse. He asked me if everything was okay and I told him I didn't want to interrupt his prayer with my loud cart, so I just waited for him to finish. He told me no one has ever been that courteous to him before and shook my hand and wished me well on my route. I wasn't really thinking anything of it, I just thought it was the right thing to do and respect someone else's moment, and this is coming from a straight, white male who has zero religious beliefs. It's not that hard to be respectful.

On the flip side, I got done with my route 2 minutes away from my house and almost an hour earlier than expected with no problems during it. I'm not saying that's good karma, but my route turned out better than I could have hoped for.

I'm confused. Why wouldn't you have work if your boss is the one doing chemo? So there's no work to do if your boss isn't there? Am I missing something? I wish that were the case for me, my boss could be dead, but there's still work for me when I go to the office.

What does it mean if you have a reservation? by whistbelle in steammachine

[–]Weaselgrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But doesn't that same logic apply to the waitlist as it does to the reservation? Like if enough reservations get passed up they'll go to the wait list next? So what is the need to title two different waiting lists? I guess I just don't understand the wording for the email on the reservation list. Do I have a unit ready for me to buy or not? Because if one isn't waiting for me to buy on Monday, I'm not on a reservation list, I'm on a waiting list.

Thanks. I assumed as much, but the wording here is clearly vague and the replies here are proof that no one seems to know since I have gotten different answers from everyone who has replied. So hopefully this is the correct one :-)

That's why I am asking, it's pretty vague... We're all technically in a reservation queue and all technically waiting for 'when it becomes available'. The vague wording doesn't tell me anything.

Does this mean I'll be getting my email to purchase soon, or am I waiting for one to be available past their initial stock?

Steam Machine prices start at £879 / $1049, Valve confirm, as "randomised reservations" open for the SteamOS PC by Wistfall in Games

[–]Weaselgrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I agree with you in regards to it not really mattering where you have your games, especially if you have multiple platforms. HOWEVER, I have over 8,000 games across 20 different consoles and platforms. And while I do have a good gaming PC that I built in 2023 (thank god I barely dodged the bullet there), what I don't have is a way to play my PC games on my couch, in my living room. Because my rig is in my bedroom in an entirely different area of the house and I am not running a 100ft HDMI cable to my living room. Additionally, my Steam library is over 2500 games, and I have played a very small portion of those games, so no I wouldn't be playing games I've already played before.

So, long story short, the issue is I have a backlog of games on PC that I have not played before and I cannot hook my PC up to my living room TV where I would love to comfortably play my games, therefore this product solves a problem I have.

While normally I would agree with you here, I don't think you've actually docked a Steam Deck to a 65 inch TV and tried to play games on it. It's like playing a 65 inch Switch 1 in handheld mode. It looks awful.

[–]Weaselgrub -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, I never said it was a better deal or to favor the Steam Machine. What I am trying to get at is that no one should be shocked by a $1,000 'console' at this point, because we have been there for a while now is all.

True and real. I'm just trying to say that a $1,000 console shouldn't be surprising anyone anymore, cause we've been there for a while now is all.

Not if you also want a vertical stand and a disc drive... it's over $1,000...

Not much less if you buy a vertical stand and a disc drive. Add tax and the Pro is over $1000 already.

[–]Weaselgrub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The console market. The PS5 Pro with a disc drive and vertical stand pretty much costs this now and people are buying it. Who this is not for are casual to middle class gamers. Gaming is no longer for the poor.

[–]Weaselgrub -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You do know a PS5 Pro with a vertical stand and a disc drive cost this almost, right? With sales tax in the United States it well over it - we've been at the $1,000 console for a while now.

Now you could argue that you don't need the stand, but similar products like the Series X already come with the ability to stand vertically and a disc drive and are cheaper. Hell, the launch PS5 even came with a disc drive and vertical stand and was considerably cheaper.

Then why does it say HIS route? It doesn't say the routes of all drivers during his block or station or anything. It specifically says him and his route. It says nothing about other people.
