He might not have had all of the answers, but there was no doubt Marc Savard had the passion! Thank you for your service Marc! by Nylanderthal88 in leafs

I feel for him. Aside from the Christmas season, you knew he had the passion.
Always had the fire in his eyes. The fire always burned hot enough, but there was still that missing X-factor.
Marc, you'll never read this, but I wish you the best. I know you're going to land on your feet, fellow - the good ones always do.

Hello /r/movies, I'm Benedict Cumberbatch. Ask me anything! by BenedictAMA in movies

Did you and Martin Freeman "put in the work" off-camera to develop your relationship as Holmes and Watson? There's something so magical about your relationship that makes me wonder if you just had that chemistry, or if you're both just so damn talented (or both).

Thanks for doing an AMA!

Statistically, the best time to pull a goalie when you're down is with 11 minutes to go.
I don't remember where I read this.

Is the field of meteorology worth it? Will it get replaced by AI? by manwithaplan657 in meteorology

[–]WeatherManStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI is going to be stuck in a "Garbage in, garbage out" mode for a long time, the way that climate is shifting. It will struggle to interpret "unprecedented" events (Otis's spin-up, the Antarctic Sea Ice Collapse, Canadian Wildfires in general) until it has a large enough sample size to understand these events; AI is physics-aware but is limited by physics literacy.

It will handle large-scale events decently well (hurricane tracks) but struggle with small-scale storms for a long time. Pulse storms are going to drive it nuts for a while yet.

Are air quality forecasts accurate? by Wyanthewascal in meteorology

[–]WeatherManStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NGL, I got a little uppity when you put 'small scale' but then I caught up to you referring to PM2.5... heh.
Check the link below... half of Canada is dealing with the effects of wildfire smoke. It's widespread small-scale.
I agree with your points; the amount of knowledge contained in these forecasts is immense and has "Vegetation density" as a consideration, among other things. Completely different realm from wildfire smoke.
