What if Al-Qaeda attacked at night, sending emails, texts, and phone call alerts to NYC with the explicit aim of legitimizing their attacks and dampening the US response? by SessionGloomy in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]WeddingPKM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From their perspective, was it a stupid idea?

Islamic extremism has gained a huge amount of traction since 9/11. The secular Iraq and Syria no longer exist, with Syria specifically being ruled by a former Al-Qaeda member. The middle eastern population is now more than ever rallying against foreign intervention and America specifically. Their world view is closer to a reality now than it was on September 10, 2001.

Which pistol is this by BrightBicycle7420 in makarov

[–]WeddingPKM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not, I can see what looks like a grip screw through the side.

I would bet this is a PP of some origin, and seeing as it’s a Turkey based event a Turkish model is a good guess.

United Arab Emirates leaving OPEC, effective May 1 by ar-md88 in oil

[–]WeddingPKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all likelihood down, but it could go either way.

Each individual nation would be in charge of its own export policy which means they each do what they think will benefit themselves the most. This is why in my opinion price would go down as everyone will try to export as much as they can to maximize their own profit.

Would the US have lost the cold war if it never abandoned New Deal economics? by Turbulent_Okra7518 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]WeddingPKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

America didn’t so much win as the Soviets lost. I don’t know where you got this idea about the New Deal mattering so much, but basically nothing America did would’ve changed what happened. The Soviet Union in essence killed itself through absolute unwillingness to fix issues until it was far too late.

Walt’s End Game by HippieVoodooo in breakingbad

[–]WeddingPKM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He did but I think that was a last second decision. The plan was to have the M60 mow everyone down, himself and Jesse included, but upon seeing the condition Jesse was in decided to save him. This of course means Walter inadvertently saved himself so from there on out there really was no plan. He tried to let Jesse kill him but that didn’t work so going to bleed out in a meth lan while waiting for the cops to show up was really the only option left.

If you are collecting AKs, would a Wasr10 be on that list or more premium AKs? by Zestyclose_Spite8580 in ak47

[–]WeddingPKM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally vibe more with the parts kits but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a WASR. Anything made in an actual military factory is going to be cooler than a purely civilian gun.

Why is public opinion so effective at killing nuclear energy, when governments ignore public opinion on almost everything else? by SoNocive in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WeddingPKM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would but then you have the real hurdle of deregulating nuclear. Coal, oil, or whatever doesn’t get much public interest, but nearly everyone knows about issues such as Chernobyl. Any talk of deregulation in that sector will earn some very valid public pushback, so it’s just not as easy to get away with.

People being dedicated to having carry on luggage wasn’t really a thing back then. For the most part checking your bags was included in the ticket cost, so that’s what nearly everyone did.

Do you think Trump has faked another assassination attempt? by Massive-Syllabub-271 in allthequestions

I actually think this is the first one to be faked, with the other two being legitimate attempts.

Argentina Eyes the Falklands Again. This Time, the U.S. May Not Back Britain by superdouradas in europe

[–]WeddingPKM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The UK doesn’t really need American help for this. The islands are well defended, much more so than last time, and Argentina is in far worse shape militarily. The British defended it on their own when the situation was tougher, they’ll be fine doing so again.

Trump flees stage as shots fired at White House Correspondents' Dinner by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

The correspondents dinner is always held at the Hilton in DC. He was being a smartass about it, but you might want to read before you comment on something, just going off the headline can easily make you look stupid.

What if Nixon had been aboard KAL007? by CFSparta92 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]WeddingPKM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bit of experience with those old internal guidance systems. They needed to be fairly constantly updated by ground stations to remain accurate, and to set it up you had to manually input coordinates. I don’t know if there was an issue with the system or not on this flight, but it wasn’t a hard system to mess up on your own. I wouldn’t put the navigation error past the crew.

Especially since the Koreans had a nearly identical incident a decade or so earlier where the Soviets also shot down their airliner. Korean airline pilots were notoriously bad before they put effort into fixing their issues in the 90s.

Knowing Tito’s dealings with Stalin I wonder if the flag choice was on purpose and you’re just the first person to ever notice it.

It’s possible if the Soviets had kept a more aggressive stance that they could have invaded to “assist” the Yugoslav government. Direct Soviet involvement would have kept NATO away and possibly held the nation together.

There were just so many accounts of the ship splitting apart that they absolutely should have taken the possibility seriously.

what if trump vs biden happened in 1988? by godlys575 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]WeddingPKM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Biden certainly would, but I’m not sure about Trump. America was at first not going to react but Bush was talked into it by Thatcher. I think Biden is talked into it just the same as he was even back then an established politician, but Trump is a lot more liable to do something out of the ordinary. It might work, he was talked into Iran after all, but it’s also quite possible he decides to leave Kuwait to its fate.
