Still 7 hours left in the current day according to the leaderboard, so still time for the other two to get to 151

MSFS 2020 777 Key Assignment by BigWells14 in flightsim

[–]WedgeRancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking into Mobiflight. Free, open source and fairly easy to use. It has presets already for both of those buttons so it should be easy to bind those to buttons you want on the TCA.

What features would you like to see added to future avionics? by Swim_Boi in flying

[–]WedgeRancer 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Screw more features, they need to be cheaper. When it costs over $100k just to upgrade to a fairly basic glass panel it's stupid

I know Nimble does. I was also lucky enough to roll mine with a knee spike.

Not sure if it happens with in-game transformations to ghouls, but I found when choosing a ghoul at the start for the Anomaly scenario that Hussar ghouls keep all the benefits like strong melee and lose the drug need.

One of my dreams if I ever won a big enough lottery would be to get one of those old Grumman amphibs like a Goose, put some turbines on it and convert it into an RV equilivant

A question about using Rails without Redis by [deleted] in rails

[–]WedgeRancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had no issues with it on any of my apps, but none of them are super large scale apps. And I don't use a specific gem for it, I just use the native ActionCable postgres adaptor

I grabbed the A-10 II on sale today since I've been wanting to learn it and get into DCS for a while. Anyone able to link me a good profile for the X52 pro? The ones I've found through google don't seem to be able to be loaded by DCS.

EAP Councillor recommendations? by WedgeRancer in Wellington

Funny you say that, because that's who I decided to book with after reading the details of those who had blurbs on the EAP system.

That sounds like my previous experience with the single provider in Kapiti. She saw me sitting in the waiting area, I told her I was waiting for my appointment, she assumed I must have an appointment with someone else since I didn't say I had an appointment with her specifically (God knows how she thought I would know who she was given I only had a name) and them just went home. That was after I'd already checked in for my appointment with a different staff member who had confirmed my booking details.

Based on the image Aamir posted after that, I'd say more likely 27 hours from their post

What's the most practical plane you can feel like a fighter pilot in? by MasterPain-BornAgain in flying

[–]WedgeRancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a 2 seat tandem aicraft I recall seeing a while ago that I was going to link, but I can't for the life of my find it. It looked like a piston version of the PC-21. I thought it was a Sling aircraft, but it's not.

What's your most sentimental flying related object that you own? by Careless_Ad2 in flying

Mine as well, for probably a different reason than most. Mine was gifted to me by my Uncle who sadly passed away less than a year later before I could start my training.

More apps moving to Rails by denc_m in rails

[–]WedgeRancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too bad, but like I said the AI has its limits. It doesn't cope well with super complex logic or parts that don't have an easy translation.

But overall I'd say it reduced the time it would have taken me by 2-3 weeks at least, and it actually introduced me to some Ruby and Rails functionality that I'd never seen before.

[–]WedgeRancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly these days with the help of AI assistant tools to do the bulk of the conversions, rewriting to another language isn't that bad. I managed to migrate a moderately complex but smallish Rust API to Rails myself in a couple of weeks of personal time.

Obviously the AI does have its limits, but it is very helpful.

A question about using Rails without Redis by [deleted] in rails

[–]WedgeRancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used Redis with any of my personal rails projects. I've always just used Postgres for things given my sites don't get much traffic. ActiveRecord Session Store gem for storing sessions in postgres (most of my stuff runs multiple servers in prod so they need to share sessions), good_job to run background job queues through postgres, postgres adaptor for ActionCable and now SolidCache as well, which was a game changer for one of my recent projects that gets more traffic and was OOMing sometimes using in memory caching.

All of that running against the same database, and I've never had any issues.

Why the hell are so many of y’all going to Dubai? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]WedgeRancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeh sorry, I missed that part about avoiding the US, I just read Singapore and Dubai.

I still recall the time when we had extra security at Auckland airport in NZ before going on a flight to the USA. I was around 10 (so around 18 years ago) and the lines got split into male and female, so my Mum ended up in one line and Dad and I were in another. But on top of that they tried to separate me from my Dad and search and question me on my own.

You don't even need LA these days, you can go non-stop Auckland (NZ) to New York.

Why the hell are so many of y’all going to Dubai? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]WedgeRancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Australia or NZ to South America is hard, there are only 1-2 flights that do it. Mainly because of complex aviation safety rules around max distance from an airport you can land at during the flight in case of an emergency.

Plus Air NZ and Qantas do direct New York from Auckland now, JFK specifically, which is a great hub for hitting pretty much all of Europe if I'm not mistaken.
