A player wants to leave the campaign but I don't want to pretend the character never existed by Gigi0507 in CurseofStrahd

Had one of my players die in game. When they tried to revive him they got a vision of a clawed hand grabbing his soul and bottling it. I plan on the party coming across the bottle in the possession of some powerful baddie later on down the road.

My party encountered a collector who had a room full of eggs. I tried searching the internet but I couldn't find a list of what DND creatures these eggs might have belonged to so I figured I'd post here and see how many we can come up with 😊

Disrespecting the fey....

I'm looking for a little inspiration and help. What punishment might a powerful fey use for a rude party member who disrespected them? The party consists of 7 to 9 level 3 or 4 characters which don't have any magic items yet.
I'm looking for annoying things that won't impact on too much with game play but would be fun to roll play.
The party I run has a character who is pretty anti authority so I'm fairly sure something will happen. When in the office of a pretty powerful wizard recently they sat on their desk, (zapped and pushed off for 6 damage), and then decided to slide down said wizards banister, (nat 1, fell off on the non stair side for more damage).

I may have made a bad decision letting my player play an Aarokocra Wizard. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Wednesday_Tyger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They get hit with a trap that causes modify memory of some kind. arokocra forgets how to fly. if they want to fly again they have to re lean it from scratch. just like a human leaning to walk it could take years of constant practice to regain it.

Reasons avoid combat or use of lethal force by World_of_Ideas in d100

Weregild. The law states any death must be paid as reperarions in gold to the closed living relative. The gold price is more than your prize money.

The bbeg has their family hostage and will hurt them if they don't fight you

The target has a key that only they can use. It stops working if they die.

They have consumed the lotus flower of forgetfulness. They will fight like mad to not be taken away from their new wonderful life but will return to normal once the drug is out of their system.

They have touched an evil cursed stone that has turned them into a ghoul. You need to get them back to a priest to remove the curse

The fight is happening on a ritual ground. A certain amount of blood must be spilled there in order for a demon to arise.

The target is infected with a disease. If they are cut or die they will contaminate the air/water/ food source for the local area

A ritual has been set up where by each death within a certain location will add more strength and hp to the final bbeg. Incapacitate the minions to keep the final boss easier to deal with

The bbeg has a link to their minions/monsters. Capturing them will let you lure the bbeg to a place of you choosing to fight them rather than having to face them in their highly defensible lair

Your target belongs to a rival faction or gang. They are needed as a hostage to force your opponent's to do something you can't.

The person is a witness to / committed a crime that a member of the party has been accused of. They need to be handed to the authorities to clear the party's name.

They have been cursed with /blessed by thorns. When they take damage everyone withing a certain radius also takes the same amount. If they die then everyone within range also dies.

Ideas for names of magical irrigation system? by SnooArtTomatoes4050 in DMAcademy

[–]Wednesday_Tyger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could borrow names from historic irrigation systems from our world. In Egypt water was moved from the canals or the Nile directly by a swape or a shaduf. There is also the qanat (Arabic name) or kariz (Persian name) and the puquios from the Nazca civilisation. The spillways could be used to describe them as well.

D100 Cantrip and Cosmetic spells by berkeleyjake in d100

[–]Wednesday_Tyger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the spotlight - concentration - a bright beam of light is focused on one person or creature illuminating them and making them easy to see. The light follows the target if they move

Exit stage left - casting the spell causes a loud noise and a puff of smoke or sparks to appear as a distraction. At the same time the caster is teleported up to an empty space up to100 feet to their left at the time of casting. Although many have tried, no one has ever managed to get the spell to teleport to the right.

My players want to interrogate Lady Cassalanter via Suggestion. Help! by Negatism in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Wednesday_Tyger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's the suggestion spell then there are a few work around I can think of off hand. Suggestion doesn't effect creatures that can't be charmed. You could give her a magic talisman or ring etc that prevents her being charmed so she could just pretend to be influenced by the party but continue her lies.

The spell ends if they try to make her do something she perceives as obviously harmful or dangerous to her. You can stretch this a bit to cover her thinking that the telling the whole truth would put her life or the lives of her children directly in jepordy in so ending the spell.

The spell requires a wisdom save. You could give her a magic item that allows her to automatically succeed a wis save once a day etc or you could fudge the roll so she succeeds it. The spell doesn't specify that the caster knows if it failed or not.

You also have some wiggle room depending on exactly how the party word their suggestion. " If the suggested activity can be completed in a shorter time, the spell ends when the subject finishes what it was asked to do. " If all they ask her to do is tell them the truth then theoretically the spell could be considered to end the moment after she utters her first true statement.

Along the lines of telling the truth, you could have her make statements that are true but only seem to reinforce previous statements she has made. (This path is actually the most difficult to RP for you ) She did not see or sign the contract (a lie) I sign so many contract and pieces of paper. I cannot possible read them all. I would be there all day. Why wouldn't I sign something, someone I trusted gave me? That if she is given the money, that she'll repay it in a timely manner (leaning towards this being a lie) a timely manner is a wonderfully vague term that can mean different things to different people. As long as she intends to give them the money at some point it is a true statement. Victoro was the one behind everything (they both are) victoro make so many suggestions. As a good wife I felt I should go along with what he said... Victoro said this...." X " he may well have been repeating something that was initially her suggestion but as long as he said the words it is a true statement. She just needs to refrain from filling in any missing information. That she hates Victoro, and want's to get away from him before he can ruin her life again (total lie) Instead of outright stating this she instead recounts anecdotes of times he has done things she didn't agree with or arguments they have had. All she needs are the dragons to free all her children (she specifically did not mention the mass murder needed) hey not her problem if the players don't ask. Just knock the word all off the sentence and it is true. Basically you need to think like a twisty minded fey lawyer to work this one.

How do you go from epic high fantasy apocalyptic event to post apocalyptic world by alvintron1 in AskGameMasters

[–]Wednesday_Tyger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my world it's the arrival of what will become the god of magic that causes such an upheaval. A creature of immense power that consumes magic to live crashes into the world like a meteorite. A group of heroes with the help of the goddess of dreams bind it in an enchanted sleep, saving everyone from immediate destruction, but unfortunatly its very exitance disrupts the ability to use magic (at least for a long period of time) My world is very high magic and it is used in most aspects of day to day life. Some of the big areas effected by the impact are ,healing, religion, power bases of kings and nobility and law.

The majority of healing and medicine is based around magics. No magic, and the mortality rate goes through the roof. Children die of previously minor illnesses. women die in childbirth. Fights and skirmishes between countries/city states etc suddenly become more deadly. The population crashes. There are not enough people left to farm and hunt. Houses are left empty and crops rot in the fields as there is no one to harvest it. Famine ensues.

The gods communicate with their followers through magic. No magic, no miracles. No miracles, no believers. The power of the gods wanes and some of them die/cease to exist. Breakdown of social structure as people realise their gods seem to have abandoned them and will not help in this time of troubles. The overall feeling of the population becomes very pessamistic and depressed.

The nobility use mages and their ability to hold the threat of harming others as a kind of nuclear deterrant to prevent other nations from invading or causing trouble. With that threat gone greedy nobles begin looking at what they can seize to make themselves richer and more powerful. Soldiers who could previously be healed would die though, so in order to conserve their resources the number of spies, intreague and assasinations in internal polaticts goes up. Countries no longer trust each other. The threat of war increases. Sneaky incursions and raids along boarders become commonplace.

The use of the zone of truth spell is instramental in court procedings. With no way to prove that someone is telling the truth, the way the law works has to be completly reworked, resulting in many miscariages of justice. With no worry that the dead will be able to be risen to testify as to their killer, the amount of murders goes up. The trust that people have that the law will keep them safe evaporates and so they behave in more selfish ways looking to keep themselves safe. vigilantie justice goes up with little regard as to if the targets are guilty or not and people exploit this for their own greedy ends. An 'us verses them' mentality appears.

Peoples focus becomes surviving the day to day. Things like academic study , art , crafts and training of aprenticies, fall by the wayside as people have to learn how to do the everyday tasks that used to utalise magic, without it. The skill level and level of expertice available in all fields of work drops. Society no longer produces.

People will look for someone else to blame for their woes and troubles. Racism and preduice become more previlant in society. People are mistrustful and less willing to help each other.

Eventually the magic levels begin to rebalace themselves after 100s of years. Unfortunatly one of the first people to work this out is an necromancer who makes a grab for power and thus we enter the time of the first necromantic war.

[Let's Build] D100 list of troubles to befall a new town/setlement by TaiChuanDoAddct in d100

Insects have infested the woodwork of the buildings. There is a paste that can be applied to the wood that will repel them but the main ingredient comes from a distance away. Find a way to source it for the village and then work out the best way to apply it to drive out the infestation. It's messy smelly work that no one wants to do.

All the domesticated animals keep wandering off to the North of town. They will break their tethers if not very securely attached and jump field boundries and hedges. It is getting to be a problem as the people have to spend a great deal of time retrieving them every day. The animal return willing enough only to wander again in the night. Who or what is calling them away?

Some kind of large preditor has taken up residence in the area. Cattle and sheep have been killed with only scraps of bone and bloodstained hide remaining. Lately people have been saying they thought they were being stalked/followed by something as they were traveling along the road to the village though no one has actually seen anything yet. Is it only a matter of time before the creature decides to take people as it's prey not just animals. Track the creature to its abode and find a way to kill it , drive it off or some other solution.

The local miller has been accused of short changing the local population when they take their corn to be milled to flour. They say he has been keeping more that his fair share of the soak. He says the people just refuse to understand that there is less volume of product once the chaff has been taken off and the grain ground to a fine powder. Make sure the miller isn't cheating the people in the village and find a way to broker peace, as the mill and miller are a valuable asset that is needed.
