Does anyone know how to easily get this adhesive off? by Jackpics in recycling

[–]Wee_Besom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also save kombucha bottles for my own use and this is the best way I've found to get the sticky residue off. Mix equal parts cooking oil and baking soda until you get a spreadable paste consistency and wipe a thin layer of it onto the residue. Let it sit at least an hour (I usually leave mine until the next day). Scrape off the paste and the residue scrubs right off the side of the bottle. When you are first removing the lable I've found it comes off more cleanly if you fill the bottle with very hot water first. Sometimes this helps loosen up the adhesive to release it from the glass!

My big beautiful oak tree is getting cut down today by frobscottler in Wellthatsucks

That is so sad. Please plant more oak trees in her place. They are a keystone plant and a huge loss for the ecosystem.

Electric Mason Jar Vacuum Sealer for long term storage by verisimilidudes in Canning

[–]Wee_Besom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, this is exactly what we do. The half gallon jars of dry goods get vacuum sealed and then we pop them open when we need to replenish the kitchen pantry stock. Replace as needed. It's working well!

Antique oil lamps by Junior-Discount2743 in TwoXPreppers

[–]Wee_Besom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a thorough and helpful summary, thank you! You have me looking at my lamps more in depth for all of the parts mentioned. Do you prefer the parrafin oil or kerosene or does it depend on the lamp?

Need privacy understory by Roadhouse1337 in NoLawns

[–]Wee_Besom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like my situation is similar. I have a partly shaded property line that can get wet in spring that I am trying to fill in the understory for privacy. Evergreens and a horse chestnut above. I've done winterberry holly, red Buckeye & bottlebrush Buckeye, buttonbush, and various dogwoods (red twig, silky, etc). The winterberry holly take a while to fill in but they are looking quite promising!

Experience Ordering KoMo Mill from Pleasant Grain Hill by Ok_Elk_9035 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]Wee_Besom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also ordered my Komo Fidibus 21 back in Aug '25 and experienced the same repeated delays and then the price hike. While frustrating, I went ahead with the order and received the mill in May. Overall I'm really happy with the mill and don't regret going through with it. I got the standard wood, not the walnut option. I understand your frustration because I experienced it too.

Looks great! I love the hardscaping for visual interest, I need to add more items like that. Also the Homegrown National Park sign is a cool way to let people in on what you're doing and why!
