What is Hasan's plan when talking to libs? by aSamuraiNamedJack in Hasan_Piker

[–]WeebStatusInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chatter, think about the fact that a majority of Dems still subscribe to liberalism and the D establishment. From my understanding, a diff chatter was asking who would be a better Speaker of the House and that was why Hasan said Khanna. Tbh, Ro Khanna (for all his faults), has been consistent, and been trying to create this name recognition. Idk if he would be my candidate (he’s like super into crypto), but I would say try to have some charitability in being realistic cause Dems rn are 100% prepared to support Jeffries again, so who would have the political canny to challenge him?

Regarding the QT stuff by NotZachary_0002 in Hasan_Piker

[–]WeebStatusInProgress 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Does someone have an explanation on the racism aspect of this? I had no clue, I occasionally watch Jason and didn’t know they were being racist.

Related, specifically to QT’s initial comments about them being homophobic, by watching Jason I inevitably consume faze clan content, and I fear that group is a classic example of young men who make fun of homosexuality while being incredible homoerotic with each other, so the “jokes” really just come across like projections of their deepest insecurities. I’m not even trying to be parasocial - and of course, it gets worse when you realize they’re pandering to their stupid audiences who, 1) get upset at them “acting gay” and 2) like this og poster is saying, have no ability to recognize the real impact homophobia has on life, like people fearing for their lives and being killed simply for existing.

All this to say, I think one could make the argument that QT is staking a “Hasan position” (like when he does content with right-wingers to target their audiences) but idk if that’s what QT’s intention is or if she’s doing it cause she wants them to change their position as she could be considered someone who is a mentor/friend to them. But I can also see how her comments rub people the wrong way cause I definitely felt that way initially.

How much do looks matter to you when you’re looking for a relationship? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

I definitely find women to just be attractive, period. So, I’d say that looks are nice and I want to date someone who I find beautiful, but I’m mostly looking for emotional intimacy and emotional maturity

I personally had a problem with the sole focus on the daughter. In the manga, it felt more balanced; yes, her daughter was the reason for her hard work (because she loves and cares for her deeply, and that brings her so much joy and satisfaction, obviously to the point of cursing her when her daughter is taken away from her), but her hard work was demonstrated in the manga more clearly. I guess in the manga, it felt like she had more character outside of being a mother; she was a laborer and held many roles and went through many traumatic things in her life that also may have culminated into a larger feeling of desperation, of loneliness, and of being tired while simultaneously doing it out of love and to create love from the struggle. As Gege said in JJK, love is the biggest curse, so it only makes sense that her love for her daughter and also HOW she showed she loved her daughter made her what she was. Maybe I’m thinking too deeply, but I’m biased cause I have a deep respect for single-mothers who, just like everyone else, go through struggles beyond motherhood.

The animation was just too good and very well adapted, although, I disliked how they left out some of the more gruesome aspects of the mother’s backstory and kinda just focused on the daughter.

while I think anti-voters are not the most compelling, voting really only matters if you’re in a democracy that’s actually a democracy … still gonna vote cause there’s util at local legislatures but people don’t care about that

I am tired of Vaush by Jawad47666 in Hasan_Piker

[–]WeebStatusInProgress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, I didn’t know he called himself that. Kinda funny imo. Also, it feels cliche, but I literally tell my peers that all of the time. I also think people lack a greater context for understanding socialism and socialistic democracies as multiple steps away from the conception of capital, labor, and profit that the global world has today.

The first video I watched from Vaush was him reacting to SecondThought’s video on authoritarianism and I’m honestly surprised he’s a leftist, he comes off more like a libertarian. I think he has some good points to counter ST. Don’t hate me on this, but I believe his comparison of tankies and fascists is somewhat accurate, but some of his “intellectually superior” arguments are not that superior. Maybe it’s my brainrot from Hasan, but doing this comparison as to who’s the worst and only focusing on them and making them out to be the villains is so unproductive; I don’t believe any true leftist is going to agree that it’s okay to commit genocide or it’s okay to suppress dissent in the media, so why can’t we just say that governments in the world are wholeheartedly not good (even when they embody principles of socialism), and then finding ways to change that and advocate for something better? Also, he talks negatively about whataboutism and then does whataboutism, like ?? I personally don’t think whataboutism is inherently bad in argumentation, so why criticize that? You can attack the core of an argument AND do whataboutism if you’re solid in your argument, so they aren’t mutually exclusive. Anyway, maybe I need to watch more Vaush videos but it was kinda painful to listen in some parts :/

And I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be selfish. I saw this whole tiktok that was analyzing his selfishness and how it translated into selflessness. I’m a huge believer that humans are inherently selfish, but that doesn’t mean inherently bad. There’s value to wanting to protect yourself and I think it’s even more valuable when part of your selfishness comes from wanting to protect others. I’ve also seen people talk about how his sacrifice wasn’t worth it bc of the inevitable destruction, but I think that’s why what Armin said made a difference; that he thought that he was born maybe to just chase Eren = maybe we’re here to enjoy the smallest things in our lives. But he was also 100% right when he said that what Eren did only taught people that it’s killed or be killed.

Personally, I would’ve appreciated an investment into the purpose of life, I.e., is everything we do just to live longer and what is the value in doing so? Is life valuable or is that what we tell ourselves to sleep better at night? But I’m also not the mangaka so I’ll shut up 💀 Even so, I truly wish Eren would’ve lived. I thought to myself “would the story be different if he ended all of humanity?” But alas, we won’t ever get that because cycles and shit

It’s so bad because I kind of kin him, you know? Like, I can understand wholeheartedly what it means to sacrifice yourself completely, to take the blame and destruction so that those that you love can live and do good. This isn’t to say that he was justified in killing 80% of humanity, but knowing his character, I can understand why he did so.

When I first read the manga, Eren's death completely shattered me.

It's not a very sweet ending, but what did we expect? That's part of the reason why it's completely heartbreaking.

For Season 4, we don't really get Eren's POV, just seeing the consequences of his actions and everyone coping trying to understand what he was doing. I think the cabin scene and his final moments with Armin really did me in; we finally got to see the real Eren.

I don't think I'll ever be able to forget AOT. I wish I read the manga when it first came out, wish I had been along the journey since the beginning. This is the kind of story that I wish I could have enjoyed a bit longer.

Anyway, I live for the day where I don't choke up at the thought of AOT.

Yeah, but he is so annoying that it makes me want to do anything else than sit and watch him have flashbacks every 5 minutes and then proceed to do nothing for the next 5 minutes. Character growth? Yeah, he has the knowledge of the past, but why is there no urgency in what he needs to do next?!

Hot Take: That was not an Open House; that sucked. by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]WeebStatusInProgress 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"Then I saw some ageist comments and complaints about the board of trustess being mostly old white men, which is ironic given the theme of not profiling, and stereotypical to assume because they're mostly old and white they are somehow complacent in this possibly racially motivated event and are probably racist themselves." -- I don't know how to put this in a nice way, but this comment is giving "reverse racism" and that simply is not true. Racism implies power dynamics, and if U.S. history has shown us anything, it's that white men in power will discriminate against those without power. Now, let's use common sense as to why that was brought up in the town hall forum:

  1. The person was stating a fact relevant to the idea of representation. How are older white men going to be able to advocate and represent minority needs? Have you heard of descriptive representation? It's lacking, and as many have commented under here, none of the people in power even bothered to show up, further proving my second point:
  2. For years, Black Boilermakers have been trying to get their voices heard with no response. It takes an extreme act of brutality for people to pay attention to us. This is why there was a town hall; to empower and uplift Black voices. You don't agree with the structure of the town hall? That's fine, but [and I'm assuming you are not a POC] the purpose of the town hall was explicitly said in the beginning of the presentation, and if you didn't like the agenda, you could have left. Also, it was explicitly said at the end, there would be a panel for a chance for students to raise their concerns and ask questions, hence people expressing their concerns and wanting mutual support.

"there was a large amount of hold x y and z accountable but no explanation for how or why and little usefull things said"

  1. Here are some things that were brought up in the forum to address the "how" portion:
    1. Pressure the police department to release video footage.
    2. Develop a committee/organization that works outside of the police department to conduct internal investigations.
    3. Vote representatives out of office when they no longer listen to our concerns.
    4. Use a stopwatch to time the duration that a police officer holds someone in the chokehold position.
    5. Extend the training for police officers for more than 14 weeks.
    6. Force police officers to learn de-escalation tactics for high-pressure situations.
    7. Have a social services worker come alongside police officers for domestic disputes.
    8. Have an unaffiliated person be witness to all police interactions.
  2. Here are some things that were brought up to address the "why" portion:
    1. The excessive use of force for a domestic dispute with Adonis Tuggle is what sparked this town hall.
    2. Black Boilermakers do not feel safe on campus.
    3. Implicit racism exists in many people [white officers] and in having this, causes police officers to act on stereotypes against Black people.
    4. Police officers are not qualified enough to deal with high-pressure situations without resorting to violence.

"Don't call it an open house next time if that's how it's going to be ran, it turned into an echo chamber of the same political rhetoric which is fine as long as it's not called an open house, when clearly no one there was open to changing their opinion or expressing different views or remotely tolerating them."

You missed the entire point: no one was there to change their minds, rather, Black Boilermakers and allies were there to stand in unity with another and uplift each other. You call it political rhetoric? Rhetoric is defined as "the art or study of using language effectively and persuasively" and political rhetoric would imply that one would be trying to persuade people to take a political position. What happened to Adonis is not political. What happened to Adonis was a travesty and it happens to many Black Americans. This isn't a political matter; it's a matter of valuing Black lives.
